[Effect of xylitol and sorbitol on metabolic indices in diabetic children]. / Vliianie ksilita i sorbita na metabolicheskie pokazateli pri sakharnom diabete u detei.

The influence of readily available carbohydrates (sugar, xylitol and sorbitol) on the metabolic processes was studied in 80 children with diabetes mellitus. It was found that even low doses (20 g) of sorbitol and xylitol produced an unfavourable effect on the lipid metabolism and liver function. It is recommended that low doses (20 g) of sugar be included into the diet for children with diabetes mellitus.
