ABSTRACT

Non-Hermitian systems can exhibit unique quantum phases without any Hermitian counterparts. For example, the latest theoretical studies predict a new surprising phenomenon that bulk bands can localize and dissipate prominently at the system boundary, which is dubbed the non-Hermitian edge burst effect. Here we realize a one-dimensional non-Hermitian Su-Schrieffer-Heeger lattice with bulk translation symmetry implemented with a photonic quantum walk. Employing time-resolved single-photon detection to characterize the chiral motion and boundary localization of bulk bands, we determine experimentally that the dynamics underlying the non-Hermitian edge burst effect is due to the interplay of non-Hermitian skin effect and imaginary band gap closing. This new non-Hermitian physical effect deepens our understanding of quantum dynamics in open quantum systems.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to develop and validate a prediction model for premature circuit clotting of continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) in critically ill patients. DESIGN: A retrospective cohort study was conducted on ICU patients undergoing CRRT. The Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care-III Clinical Database CareVue subset and Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care-IV were utilized for model development, while the eICU Collaborative Research Database was employed for external validation. Predictive factors were selected through Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator Regression and univariate logistic regression. A prediction model was then developed using binary logistic regression. Internal and external validations assessed the model's discrimination, calibration, and clinical net benefit. RESULTS: This study encompassed 2531 patients overall, with a premature circuit clotting rate of 31.88 %. The prediction model comprises five variables: body temperature, anticoagulation, mean arterial pressure, maximum transmembrane pressure change within two hours, and vasopressor. The model demonstrated robust predictive performance, achieving an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.897 (95 % CI: 0.879-0.915) in the training set and 0.877 (95 % CI: 0.852-0.902) in the external validation set. Internal validation yielded a Brier score of 0.087, while external validation showed a Brier score of 0.120. Calibration curves indicated good model calibration for both validations. The decision curve analysis indicates that the model yields a clinical net benefit across a wide range of decision thresholds. CONCLUSION: The model demonstrates robust discrimination, calibration, and clinical net benefit, with readily available variables indicating substantial potential for valuable clinical applications. IMPLICATIONS FOR CLINICAL PRACTICE: Healthcare providers in the ICU can leverage the model to evaluate the risk of premature circuit clotting in critically ill patients undergoing continuous renal replacement therapy, facilitating timely intervention to mitigate its incidence.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: The shortage of nurses threatens the entire healthcare system, and nursing professionalism can improve nurse retention and enhance the quality of care. However, nursing professionalism is dynamic, and the factors influencing its development are not fully understood. METHODS: A qualitative descriptive study was conducted. Using maximum variation and purposive sampling, 14 southern and northern China participants were recruited. Semi-structured interviews were conducted from May 2022 to August 2023 in face-to-face conversations in offices in the workplace or via voice calls. The interviews were transcribed verbatim and analyzed via thematic analysis. RESULTS: Three main themes emerged: (1) nourishment factors: promoting early sprouting; (2) growth factors: the power of self-activation and overcoming challenges; and (3) rootedness factors: stability and upward momentum. Participants described the early acquisition of nursing professionalism as derived from personality traits, family upbringing, and school professional education, promoting the growth of nursing professionalism through self-activation and overcoming challenges, and maintaining the stable and upward development of nursing professionalism through an upward atmosphere and external motivation. CONCLUSION: We revealed the dynamic factors that influence the development of nursing professionalism, including "nourishment factors", "growth factors", and "rootedness factors". Our findings provide a foundation for future development of nursing professionalism cultivation strategies. Nursing administrators can guide the development of nurses' professionalism from many angles according to the stage they are in, and the development of professionalism deserves more attention. In the future, we can no longer consider the development of nursing professionalism solely as the responsibility of individual nurses; the power of families, organizations, and society is indispensable to jointly promoting nursing professionalism among nurses.

ABSTRACT

Current meta-analysis was performed to compare robotic hepatectomy (RH) with conventional open hepatectomy (OH) in terms of peri-operative and postoperative outcomes. PubMed, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library were all searched up for comparative studies between RH and OH. RevMan5.3 software and Stata 13.0 software were used for statistical analysis. Nineteen studies with 1747 patients who received RH and 23,633 patients who received OH were included. Pooled results indicated that patients who received RH were generally younger than those received OH (P < 0.00001). Moreover, RH was associated with longer operative time (P = 0.0002), less intraoperative hemorrhage (P < 0.0001), lower incidence of intraoperative transfusion (P = 0.003), lower incidence of postoperative any morbidity (P < 0.00001), postoperative major morbidity (P = 0.0001), mortalities with 90 days after surgery (P < 0.0001), and shorter length of postoperative hospital stay (P < 0.00001). Comparable total hospital costs were acquired between RH and OH groups (P = 0.46). However, even at the premise of comparable R0 rate (P = 0.86), RH was associated with smaller resected tumor size (P < 0.00001). Major hepatectomy (P = 0.02) and right posterior hepatectomy (P = 0.0003) were less frequently performed in RH group. Finally, we concluded that RH was superior to OH in terms of peri-operative and postoperative outcomes. RH could lead to less intraoperative hemorrhage, less postoperative complications and an enhanced postoperative recovery. However, major hepatectomy and right posterior hepatectomy were still less frequently performed via robotic approach. Future more powerful well-designed studies are required for further exploration.

ABSTRACT

Two halophilic archaeal strains TS33T and KZCA124 were isolated from two distant salt lakes on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau, respectively. Culture-independent analysis indicated that these two strains were original inhabitants but low abundant taxa in respective salt lakes. Strains TS33T and KZCA124 were able to grow at 20-60 °C (optimum were 42 and 35 °C, respectively), with 0.9-4.8 M NaCl (optimum were 3.0 and 2.6 M, respectively), with 0-0.7 M MgCl2 (optimum, 0.3 M) and at pH 5.0-9.5 (optimum were pH 7.5 and pH 7, respectively). The 16S rRNA and rpoB' gene similarities between these two strains were 99.7% and 99.4%, and these two similarities among strains TS33T, KZCA124, and existing species of the family Natrialbaceae were 90.6-95.5% and 84.4-89.3%, respectively. Phylogenetic and phylogenomic analyses indicated that strains TS33T and KZCA124 formed an independent branch separated from neighboring genera, Saliphagus, Natronosalvus, and Natronobiforma. The averagenucleotideidentity (ANI), digital DNA-DNAhybridization (dDDH), and average amino acid identity (AAI) values between strains TS33T and KZCA124 were 96.4%, 73.1%, and 96.7%, respectively, higher than the thresholds for species demarcation. The overall genome-related indexes between these two strains and existing species of family Natrialbaceae were 73-77%, 21-25%, and 63-70%, respectively, significantly lower than the species boundary thresholds. Strains TS33T and KZCA124 may represent a novel species of a new genus within the family Natrialbaceae judged by the cutoff value of AAI (≤76%) proposed to differentiate genera within the family Natrialbaceae. The major polar lipids of strains TS33T and KZCA124 were phosphatidic acid, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol phosphate methyl ester, sulfated mannosyl glucosyl diether, and sulfated galactosyl mannosyl glucosyl diether. These two strains could be distinguished from the related genera according to differential phenotypic characteristics. These phenotypic, phylogenetic, and genomic analyses revealed that strains TS33T (=KCTC 4310T = MCCC 4K00132T) and KZCA124 (=CGMCC 1.17432 = JCM 34316) represent a novel species of a new genus of the family Natrialbaceae and were named Halomontanus rarus gen. nov., sp. nov.

ABSTRACT

This study aims to observe the clinical efficacy of the dual plasma molecular adsorption exchange system (DPMAES) in patients with hepatitis B virus-related acute-on-chronic liver failure (HBV-ACLF), with a focus on its regulatory effect on cytokine storm. A total of 60 HBV-ACLF patients were enrolled in this study. The observation group, comprising 30 patients, received DPMAES treatment, while the control group underwent PE treatment. We compared the efficacy changes between the two groups post-treatment. A total of 55 HBV-ACLF patients who completed the study were analyzed, Patients treated with DPMAES showed significant improvements in clinical outcomes. After DPMAES treatment, HBV-ACLF patients exhibited notably 90 day survival rate increased by 18% compared to those in the PE group. Moreover, total bilirubin levels decreased markedly, albumin and platelet levels increased compared to the PE group. After DPMAES treatment, the patient showed a significant decrease in inflammatory cytokine IL-6 (t = 5.046, P < 0.001) and a significant decrease in procalcitonin (t = 4.66, P < 0.001). DPMAES was more effective than PE in rapidly reducing TBiL, improving coagulation function and mitigating cytokine storm. It maintained platelet stability more effectively while minimizing albumin consumption to a greater extent, significantly improved 90-day survival.Trial registration: Chinese Clinical Trial Registry, ChiCTR2300076117.

ABSTRACT

To assess the clinical efficacy of Double Filtration Plasmapheresis (DFAPP), a novel blood purification method, in treating hyperlipidemic moderate/severe pancreatitis (HL-M/SAP). A total of 68 HL-M/SAP patients were enrolled in this study. The observation group, comprising 34 patients, received DFAPP treatment, while the control group underwent CVVH + PA treatment. We compared the efficacy changes between the two groups post-treatment. Patients treated with DFAPP showed significant improvements in clinical outcomes. After 72 h of DFAPP treatment, HL-M/SAP patients exhibited notably lower multiple organ failure scores and a reduced mortality rate compared to those in the CVVH + PA group. Triglyceride levels in HL-M/SAP patients treated with DFAPP for 48 h averaged 3.75 ± 1.95, significantly lower than the 9.57 ± 3.84 levels in the CVVH + PA group (P < 0.05). Moreover, CRP levels decreased markedly, IL-17 levels diminished, IL-10 levels increased, and the decline in IL-35 levels was significantly less pronounced compared to the CVVH + PA group. The recurrence rate of pancreatitis was also significantly lower after 6 months. The early implementation of DFAPP in HL-M/SAP patients effectively reduces triglyceride levels, suppresses pro-inflammatory factors, enhances anti-inflammatory factors, and mitigates cytokine storm-induced sepsis damage. Consequently, this leads to a decrease in the incidence of multiple organ failure, improved patient survival rates, and a reduce the recurrence rate of lipogenic pancreatitis.Trial registration: Chinese Clinical Trial Registry, ChiCTR2300076066.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Vicarious trauma can significantly affect the physical and mental health of nurses, as well as their ability to provide quality of care. However, the concept of vicarious trauma has received limited attention and remains controversial in the nursing context. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to clarify and define the concept of vicarious trauma as it pertains to the nursing context. METHODS: The Schwartz and Kim's three-stage hybrid concept analysis method was used to define the concept. In the theoretical phase, PubMed, CINAHL, OVID, Medline, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus, ProQuest, PsycINFO, CNKI database, VIP database and Wanfang database were used using keywords "nurs*"and "vicarious trauma*", resulting in a total of 25 papers. In the fieldwork phase, we conducted participatory observations in three hospitals and semi-structured in-depth interviews with 18 clinical nurses from seven cities. In the analysis phase, the results of the previous two phases were integrated to develop a comprehensive concept of vicarious trauma in nursing. RESULTS: Based on the results of the theoretical and field phases, we propose the concept of vicarious trauma in nursing as follows: vicarious trauma is a psychological trauma impacting nurses' cognitive schema which they may experience in clinical settings or on social media, resulting from deeply empathize with the physical or emotional trauma of patients, family, or colleagues, such as patients' physical injuries or death, family's grieving feelings and colleagues' received threats and attacks. Positively, vicarious trauma can transform into vicarious post-trauma growth through repositioning and connection, nourishing nurses and promoting their personal and professional development. CONCLUSION: The concept of vicarious trauma in nursing is multidimensional and holistic. This study clarifies the concept of vicarious trauma in nursing using the hybrid concept analysis, providing a framework for future research and practice on vicarious trauma in the nursing field. PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION: Nurses contributed to the conduct of the study by participating in the data collection via interviews.

ABSTRACT

This report introduces a young adult who has been in bed for more than ten years with end-stage hemophilic arthropathy. He didn't have access to factor VIII (FVIII) in the early stage of hemophilia due to the high costs of clotting replacement therapy. As a result, he is experiencing some difficulties, such as joint contracture, muscular atrophy, severe pain, and poor function of cardiopulmonary. He came to visit us for a comprehensive rehabilitation program, and, finally, he achieved the basic goal of self-care in daily life.

ABSTRACT

Heisenberg-type measurement uncertainty relations (MURs) of two quantum observables are essential for contemporary research in quantum foundations and quantum information science. Going beyond, here we report the first experimental study of MUR of three quantum observables. We establish rigorously MURs for triplets of unbiased qubit observables as combined approximation errors lower bounded by an incompatibility measure, inspired by the proposal of Busch et al. [Phys. Rev. A 89, 012129 (2014)PLRAAN1050-294710.1103/PhysRevA.89.012129]. We develop a convex programming protocol to numerically find the exact value of the incompatibility measure and the optimal measurements. We propose a novel implementation of the optimal joint measurements and present several experimental demonstrations with a single-photon qubit. We stress that our method is universally applicable to the study of many qubit observables. Besides, we theoretically show that MURs for joint measurement can be attained by sequential measurements in two of our explored cases. We anticipate that this work may stimulate broad interests associated with Heisenberg's uncertainty principle in the case of multiple observables, enriching our understanding of quantum mechanics and inspiring innovative applications in quantum information science.

ABSTRACT

Acute lung injury (ALI) is a clinical condition occurs due to severe systemic inflammatory response for clinical stimulus like pneumonia, sepsis, trauma, aspiration, inhalation of toxic gases, and pancreatitis. Disruption of alveolar barriers, activation of macrophages, infiltration of neutrophils, and proinflammatory cytokines are the vital events occurs during ALI. The drugs which inhibit these inflammatory response can protect lungs from inflammatory insults. In this study, we examined the potency of phytochemical coronarin, a diterpene which have been proven to possess anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiangiogenic, and antitumor activities. Healthy BALB/c mice were induced to acute lung injury with intra-tracheal administration of LPS and then treated with 5 and 10 mg/kg concentration of coronarin. The wet/dry lung weight of mice were estimated to assess the induction of pulmonary edema. BALF fluid was analyzed for protein concentrations and immune cells count. Myeloperoxidase activity and levels of chemokines MCP-2 and MIP-2, iNOS, COX-2, and PGE-2 were quantified to assess the immunomodulatory effect of coronarin against LPS-induced ALI. The levels of proinflammatory cytokines was measured to examine the anti-inflammatory property of coronarin, and it was confirmed with histopathological analysis of the lung tissue. Murine RAW 264.7 cells were utilized for the in vitro analysis. Cell cytoxicity and cytoprotective property of coronarin was assessed with MTT assay in LPS-treated Murine RAW 264.7. The anti-inflammatory property of coronarin was further confirmed in in vitro condition by estimating the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines in coronarin-treated and untreated LPS-induced cells. Overall, our in vivo and in vitro results confirm coronarin significantly inhibited the infiltration of neutrophils prevented immunodulatory activity and synthesis of proinflammatory cytokines and alleviated the acute lung injury induced by LPS. Coronarin is a potent anti-inflammatory drug which can be subjected to further research to be prescribed as drug for ALI.

ABSTRACT

Adenomyosis is a common benign gynecological disorder and an important factor leading to infertility in fertile women. Adenomyosis can cause deep lesions and is persistent and refractory in nature due to its tumor-like biological characteristics, such as the ability to implant, adhere, and invade. The pathogenesis of adenomyosis is currently unclear. Therefore, new therapeutic approaches are urgently required. Exosomes are nanoscale vesicles secreted by cells that carry proteins, genetic materials and other biologically active components. Exosomes play an important role in maintaining tissue homeostasis and regulating immune responses and metabolism. A growing body of work has shown that exosomes and their contents are key to the development and progression of adenomyosis. This review discusses the current research progress, future prospects and challenges in this emerging therapeutic tool by providing an overview of the changes in the adenomyosis uterine microenvironment and the biogenesis and functions of exosomes, with particular emphasis on the role of exosomes and their contents in the regulation of cell migration, proliferation, fibrosis formation, neovascularization, and inflammatory responses in adenomyosis.

Background: The incidence of hypertension is high in people living with HIV (PLWH). High-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP), systemic inflammation response index (SIRI), and neutrophil-to-monocyte ratio (NMR) are considered economic and convenient parameters that reflect the levels of inflammation in patients. Our aim was to explore whether indirect inflammation markers are associated with hypertension in PLWH. Methods: This was a case-control study. The case group (hypertension) comprised PLWH with hypertension, and the control group (non-hypertension) comprised sex- and age-(± 3 years)-matched PLWH without hypertension. Demographic parameters, hsCRP, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), systemic immune- inflammation index (SII), SIRI, lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR), platelet-to-neutrophil ratio (PNR), platelet-to-monocyte ratio (PMR), NMR, time to HIV diagnosis, antiretroviral therapy (ART) duration, recent CD4+ and CD8+ cell counts, recent CD4+/CD8+ ratio, recent HIV viral load (HIV-RNA),and recent ART regimen were obtained from the patients' electronic medical records. A t-test or Wilcoxon rank-sum test was performed to compare differences between the two groups, and conditional logistic regression was used to analyze the risk factors of hypertension. Correlations between inflammation markers and CD4+ cell counts, CD8+ cell counts, and CD4+/CD8+ ratio were analyzed using Spearman's correlation. Results: In the hypertension group, body mass index (BMI), hsCRP, NLR, SII, SIRI, NMR, time to HIV diagnosis, ART duration, CD4+ and CD8+ cell counts, and CD4+/CD8+ ratio, the ratio of HIV-RNA < 100 copies/mL were all higher than those in the non-hypertension group, while the PNR was lower than that in the non-hypertension group. ART duration, CD4+ cell counts, HIV-RNA < 100 copies/mL, hsCRP, SIRI, and NMR were positively associated with hypertensive risk in PLWH. CD8+ cell counts and CD4+/CD8+ ratio was negatively associated with hypertensive risk in PLWH. SIRI was negatively correlated with CD4+ cell counts and CD8+ cell counts, but positively correlated with CD4+/CD8+ ratio. Conclusions: We identified positive associations between inflammation markers hsCRP, SIRI, NMR and hypertensive risk in PLWH. Alleviating inflammation may help control or delay the occurrence of hypertension in PLWH.

ABSTRACT

The comprehensive performance of the state-of-the-art solid-state electrolytes (SSEs) cannot match the requirements of commercial applications, and constructing an organic-inorganic composite electrolyte in situ on a porous electrode is an effective coping strategy. However, there are few studies focused on the influence of inorganic ceramics on the polymerization of multi-organic components. In this study, it was found that the addition of Li6.4La3Zr1.4Ta0.6O12 (LLZO) weakens the interaction between different polymers and makes organic and inorganic components contact directly in the solid electrolyte. These suppress the segregation of components in the in situ polymerized composite SSE, leading to a decrease in the polymer crystallization and improvement of electrolyte properties such as electrochemical stability window and mechanical properties. The composite solid-state electrolyte can be in situ constructed on different porous electrodes, which can establish close contact with active material particles, showing an ionic conductivity 4.4 × 10-5 S cm-1 at 25 °C, and afford the ternary cathode stability for 100 cycles.

ABSTRACT

SUMMARY: The present study investigated the possible protective effects of melatonin on Bleomycin, Cisplatin and etoposide (BEP) chemotherapy regimens using immunohistochemistry. Forty male Wistar rats were divided into four groups of ten as; group 1 as untreated control; group 2 as BEP group which received the three cycles of 21 days' regimen each of 0.5¥ dose levels ofBEP (bleomycin 0.75 mg/kg, etoposide 7.5 mg/kg and cisplatin 1.5 mg/kg). Rats in the group 3 (MEL group) received 10 mg/kg/day melatonin once daily. Group 4 received the melatonin (30 min before the BEP injections) and BEP as in groups 2. Proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) staining was used to detect cell proliferation and caspase-3, caspase-9 and Caspase-8 were detected to investigate apoptosis. PCNA immunostaining in alveolar epithelium, alveolar macrophages and bronchus was weak to moderate in BEP group. However, diffuse and strong caspase immunoreactions for caspase-3, caspase 8- and caspase-9 were detected in the bronchioles epithelium, vascular endothelium, alveolar luminal macrophages in the BEP group. PCNA and caspase immunoreactivities in MEL and Mel + BEP groups were close to the control one. The surface are in the BEP group was significantly reduced as compared to the control one ((P0.05). It can be concluded that BEP regimen can affects negatively on lung tissue and melatonin inhibits lung tissue injuries during BEP chemotherapy.


El presente estudio investigó los posibles efectos protectores de la melatonina en los regímenes de quimioterapia con bleomicina, etopósido y cisplatino (BEP) mediante inmunohistoquímica. Cuarenta ratas Wistar macho se dividieron en cuatro grupos de diez: grupo 1, control sin tratar; grupo 2, quimioterapia con una dosis de 0,5x de BEP (0,75 mg/kg de bleomicina, 7,5 mg/ kg de etopósido y 1,5 mg/kg de cisplatino) con tres ciclos de 21 días cada uno. Las ratas del grupo 3 (grupo MEL) recibieron 10 mg/kg/día de melatonina una vez al día. El grupo 4 (Mel + BEP) recibió melatonina (30 minutos antes de las inyecciones de BEP) y BEP, como en los grupos 2. Se usó la tinción del antígeno nuclear de células en proliferación (PCNA) para detectar la proliferación celular y, caspasa- 3, caspasa-9 y caspasa-8 para investigar apoptosis. La inmunotinción de PCNA en el epitelio alveolar, los macrófagos alveolares y los bronquios varió de débil a moderada en el grupo BEP. Sin embargo, se detectaron inmunorreacciones difusas y fuertes para caspasa-3, caspasa 8- y caspasa-9 en el epitelio de los bronquiolos, endotelio vascular y macrófagos luminales alveolares. Las inmunorreactividades de PCNA y caspasa en los grupos MEL y Mel + BEP fueron similares a las del control. El área de superficie en el grupo BEP se redujo significativamente en comparación con el control (P0,05). Se puede concluir que la quimioterapia con BEP puede afectar negativamente al tejido pulmonar y la melatonina inhibe las lesiones durante la quimioterapia.

ABSTRACT

Background: A thoracic aortic aneurysm (TAA) is a known condition seen in cardiovascular practice. A TAA rupture and postoperative infection may result in death. Preoperative infections leading to death are extremely rare. Case Study: A 62-year-old Chinese female was admitted to The First Hospital of Hebei Medical University with a two-day history of abdominal pain. She was diagnosed with a TAA rupture and underwent immediate surgery. The preoperative urine analysis indicated that the positive bacteria and white blood cell count suggested a urinary tract bacterial infection. The patient was administered the empiric antibiotics, cefazolin; however, her blood pressure continued to drop during the perioperative period and she died of uncorrectable acidosis 8 h after the operation. On the second day after death, both the blood and urine cultures were positive for Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Conclusion: Given that this patient with a TAA rupture died of uncorrected acidosis caused by preoperative infection, it is important to evoke the diagnosis in the context of TAA. Routine laboratory indicators are valuable factors for surgeons and physicians in assessing a patient's condition and improving their prognosis.

ABSTRACT

Due to the nonlinearity in phase shifting profilometry (PSP) system, the captured images are often distorted with fringe harmonics, resulting in inaccurate phase map and measurement. Considering the fact that the phase error can be significantly reduced by modeling high-order fringe harmonics, this work formulates the phase extraction problem - with different frequency images and high-order fringe harmonic model - as a maximum likelihood estimation (MLE). To optimize it efficiently, we thus propose a combined-frequency phase extraction (CFPE) solution by introducing a latent phase map and incorporating the famous expectation-maximization (EM) framework. As a result, our CFPE method only needs ∼5% execution time of a high-order baseline, whilst keeps the high-order accuracy. Tested on synthetic images as well as practical measurements, our CFPE method demonstrated its performance improvement of efficiency and accuracy. In addition, our detailed implementation with experimental arrangement is also provided for interested researchers.

ABSTRACT

Objective: The objective of this study was to compare the efficacy differences between Chinese patent medicines combined with hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in the treatment of premature ovarian failure (POF) by the Bayesian network meta-analysis (NMA) method. Methods: Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) reporting Chinese patent medicine combined with HRT for POF included Medline (via PubMed), Embase, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure Database (CNKI), Wanfang Database (Wanfang), VIP Database (VIP), and China Biology Medicine Database (CBM) from the inception of the databases to July 2022. Two researchers independently screened the articles, extracted data, and evaluated the quality. The literature that met the inclusion criteria was screened out, the quality and risk of bias of the included studies were assessed according to the Cochrane 5.1 manual and RevMan 5.4, and NMA was performed using Stata 15.0 and R software. Results: Sixty-four RCTs involving 5,675 individuals containing 12 oral Chinese patent medicines combined with HRT were enrolled into the current NMA. The results showed that when compared with patients using only HRT, the total clinical response rate is greater in patients using HRT combined with one of these 12 oral Chinese patent medicines. Among them, Zuogui pills + HRT [odds ratio (OR) = 3.92; 95% credible interval (CrI) = 0.86, 23.84; SUCRA = 73.76%] is most likely to be the best intervention, and the suboptimal intervention is Guishen pills + HRT (OR = 3.22, 95% CrI = 1.16, 9.44, SUCRA = 70.60%). Conclusion: Chinese patent medicines combined with HRT were more effective than HRT alone in the treatment of POF. Zuogui pills are good at decreasing follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) and more effective in the improvement of total clinical response rate; Xuefu Zhuyu capsule is also good at decreasing FSH. Ziheche capsule is an expert in improving estradiol level; Kuntai capsule shows the lowest incidence of adverse reactions. However, the quality of the literature included in this study is relatively low, so it may affect the results of the study. ABSTRACT

While Bell nonlocality of a bipartite system is counterintuitive, multipartite nonlocality in our many-body world turns out to be even more so. Recent theoretical study reveals in a theory-agnostic manner that genuine multipartite nonlocal correlations cannot be explained by any causal theory involving fewer-partite nonclassical resources and global shared randomness. Here, we provide a Bell-type inequality as a test for genuine multipartite nonlocality in network by exploiting a matrix representation of the causal structure of a multipartite system. We further present experimental demonstrations that both four-photon GHZ state and generalized four-photon GHZ state significantly violate the inequality, i.e., the observed four-partite correlations resist explanations involving three-way nonlocal resources subject to local operations and common shared randomness, hence confirming that nature is boundless multipartite nonlocal.

Citrus is an essential horticultural fruit whose yield and quality are affected by salinity all over the world. The recognition and adaptive regulation of citrus against salt stress are important areas for cultivar improvement, but the vascular system signal transduction mechanism of the plant response to salt stress remains elusive. In this study, we constructed a dodder (Cuscuta spp.) linked Hamlin sweet orange (Citrus sinensis) plant community in which deliver a vascular signal through the dodder in response to salt stress. RNA-seq technology was used to analyze the gene expression profile of citrus leaves after salt treatment. The results showed that a vascular signal was transmitted to a dodder-linked host plant, triggering a transcriptional response to salt stress. However, the phenotypic and transudative ability of the dodder changed after 24 h. The salt treatment group (Group S) and the dodder-linked group (Group D) respectively contained 1,472 and 557 differentially expressed genes (DEGs). 454 of which were common to both groups. The results of our analysis revealed that the gene expression categories in Group D represented a highly consistent trend compared to the group S plants, indicating that the dodder-bridged vascular signals activated the stress-response of citrus leaves for transcriptomic reconfiguration. The KEGG pathway database and an analysis of key drivers revealed that phenylpropanoid biosynthesis, photosynthesis-antenna proteins, starch and sucrose metabolism, plant hormone signal transduction, circadian rhythm, and MAPK signaling pathways were significantly enriched as the critical genes during salt stress. A systemic signal in the dodder-bridged host significantly regulated abiotic stress-related secondary metabolic pathways, including those for phenylpropanoids, lignin, and lignans. The physiological indexes of photosynthetic intensity, respiration, and attractiveness among communities supported the transcriptional changes. Thus, our results indicate that salt stress-induced vascular system signals can be transmitted through the vascular system of a dodder linking citrus plants, revealing the genetic regulation and physiological changes of citrus leaves responding to plant stress signal transmission.
