ABSTRACT

Organophosphorus pesticides play an important role as broad-spectrum inactivating herbicides in agriculture. Developing a method for rapid and efficient organophosphorus pesticides detection is still urgent due to the increasing concern on food safety. An organo-probe (ZDA), synthesized by purine hydrazone derivative and 2,2'-dipyridylamine derivative, was applied in sensitive recognition of Cu2+ with detection limit of 300 nM. Mechanism study via density functional theory (DFT) and job's plot experiment revealed that ZDA and Cu2+ ions form a 1:2 complex quenching the fluorescence emission. Moreover, this fluorescent complex ZDA-Cu2+ was applicable for detecting glyphosate and glufosinate ammonium following fluorescence enhancement mechanism, with detection limits of 11.26 nM and 11.5 nM, respectively. Meanwhile, ZDA-Cu2+ was effective and sensitive when it is used for pesticide detection, reaching the maximum value and stabilizing in 1 min. Finally, the ZDA-Cu2+ probe could also be tolerated in cell assay environment, implying potential bio-application.

ABSTRACT

Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is a gas with a toxic odor that plays an irreplaceable role in physiological activities within the mammalian body. Therefore, it is important to do the distribution and quantitative detection of H2S in mammalian cells. In this paper, a fluorescence probe (EDPH) based on purine scaffold was designed and synthesized with high sensitivity and good selectivity. H2S induced ether bond breakage in EDPH, resulting in a significant redshift of the absorption band (from 370 nm to 500 nm) with a Stokes shift of 130 nm. After the addition of H2S, the fluorescence intensity of EDPH showed a good linear correlation with the concentration of H2S, which enabled the quantitative detection of H2S with a low limit of detection (41 nM). Finally, the EDPH was applied to the cellular Hele, and the probe has good cellularity imaging capability for the detection of H2S in living systems.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Hypertensive disorders in pregnancy (HDP) are a major cause of maternal mortality and morbidity. Recent studies indicated that pregnant women are the most vulnerable populations to ambient temperature influences, but it affected HDP with inconsistent conclusions. Our objective is to systematically review whether extreme temperature exposure is associated with a changed risk for HDP. METHOD: We searched PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science and Cochrane Library databases. We included cohort or case control studies examining the association between extreme temperature exposure before or during pregnancy and HDP. Heat sources such as saunas and hot baths were excluded. We pooled the odds ratio (OR) to assess the association between extreme temperature exposure and preeclampsia or eclampsia. RESULTS: Fifteen studies involving 4,481,888 patients were included. Five studies were included in the meta-analysis. The overall result demonstrated that in the first half of pregnancy, heat exposure increases the risk of developing preeclampsia or eclampsia and gestational hypertension, and cold exposure decreases the risk. The meta-analysis revealed that during the first half of pregnancy, heat exposure increased the risk of preeclampsia or eclampsia (OR 1.54, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.10, 2.15), whereas cold exposure decreased the risk (OR 0.90, 95% CI: 0.84, 0.97). CONCLUSION: The ambient temperature is an important determinant for the development of HDP, especially for preeclampsia or eclampsia. The effects of extreme temperatures may be bidirectional during the different trimesters of pregnancy, which should be evaluated by future studies. This review provided hints of temperature regulation in HDP administration.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: Periventricular-intraventricular haemorrhage (PV-IVH) is one of the major cause of mortality and long-term neurodevelopmental sequela in preterm infants born at less than 32 weeks of gestation. Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) monitoring can detect brain tissue oxygen saturation changes before the occurrence of PV-IVH in the early postnatal period. However, the time window for NIRS monitoring, the absolute value or change value of brain tissue oxygen saturation, and the accuracy of NIRS in predicting PV-IVH and its neurodevelopmental outcomes has not been systematically reviewed. In this review, we will investigate the diagnostic accuracy (sensitivity, specificity and accuracy) of NIRS in predicting PV-IVH, its severity and outcomes. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: Literature will be searched in the PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science and Cochrane Library databases without limitation of region or time of publication. All published literature without language restrictions, including randomised/quasicontrolled trials and observational studies, will be considered. Studies providing index test values (the absolute value or change value of oxygen saturation using NIRS) will be included. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses of Diagnostic Test Accuracy Studies (DTA) process will be followed for writing. The risk of bias will be assessed according to the Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies-2 tool. The outcomes will be the diagnostic accuracy (sensitivity, specificity and accuracy) of NIRS in predicting PV-IVH, long-term neurodevelopmental outcomes and infant mortality. The Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) tool will be used to evaluate the quality of the evidence. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: In this systematic review, data will be collected from published articles for collation and analysis, without a separate ethical review. ABSTRACT

We explored the mediating effect of social support and loneliness in the relationships between perceived discrimination and suicidal ideation among impoverished Chinese college students. Using the convenience cluster sampling method, we chose a total of 964 impoverished college students from a central province of China. Students completed the cross-sectional survey using the Perceived Discrimination Questionnaire, the Social Support Rating Scale, the University of California at Los Angeles Loneliness Scale, and the Beck Scale for Suicidal Ideation. Correlation analysis and structural equation modeling analysis were conducted to clarify the relationships between study variables. Correlation analysis showed that perceived discrimination, loneliness, and suicidal ideation were positively correlated with each other; social support was negatively correlated with perceived discrimination, loneliness, and suicidal ideation. In addition, structural equation modeling analysis indicated that perceived discrimination had a direct positive effect on suicidal ideation; social support and loneliness partially mediated the relationship between perceived discrimination and suicidal ideation. Specifically, perceived discrimination was positively associated with suicidal ideation via social support and loneliness separately, and had a serial association through both social support and loneliness. Thus, perceived discrimination may have influenced suicidal ideation through both social support and loneliness.
