ABSTRACT

The objective of this study was to identify the indications for 'T' vertical extension in low transverse caesarean births, to determine complications during puerperium, blood loss, length of hospital stay and condition of newborn evaluated with Apgar score. 61 cases of extension were compared with 61 randomly selected women match for the date of delivery. Mann-Whitney Test and gamma 2-Test were used to compare both groups. The study showed the most common indications were difficulties in fetal extraction. Type of anaesthesia used during operation, blood loss and complications during puerperium didn't differ between both groups. 'T' extensions are safe and are not associated with prolonged hospital stays compared with controls. The condition of newborn evaluated with Apgar score is good in this group.

ABSTRACT

Recently there has been observed a significant increase in frequency of erectile dysfunction in Poland. Contemporary methods of the therapy of this disturbance are based not only on psychotherapy, oral drugs and other non invasive methodes, but on intracavernous injection of vasodilatory agents as well. The objective of the study was to evaluate the efficiency of intracavernous quick self-injection of prostaglandin E1 implementing automatic "SELFINJECT" device. Authors achieved 93% of positive results. That method seems to be safe and well tolerated.

ABSTRACT

15 patients (11 male, 9 female) with obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OSAS) and 10 healthy age- and weight-matched control subjects volunteered to participate in the study to test circadian variations of cardiac response to activation of carotid baroreceptors. Activation of carotid baroreceptors was evoked by applying a negative pressure to both left and right carotid sinus regions, using two small separate neck-suction capsules. All experiments were performed under standard conditions every two hours. The cardiac response to carotid baroreceptors activation was significantly reduced in OSAS Patients, to a greater degree in the group of hypertensive patients. A characteristic circadian rhythm of baroreceptor reactivity persisted in all OSAS patients. Thus, OSAS patients constitute a high-risk group for the development of cardiovascular diseases and pathological course of blood pressure during daytime.
