ABSTRACT

AIMS: To differentiate the subspecies of Lactobacillus delbrueckii, subsp. delbrueckii, subsp. lactis and subsp. bulgaricus. METHODS AND RESULTS: Amplified ribosomal DNA restriction analysis (ARDRA) and ribotyping were applied to over 30 strains. Both methods analyse the ribosomal genes which carry useful information about the evolutionary and taxonomic relationship among bacteria. The methods proved to be reliable and highly reproducible. ARDRA was applied to 16S rDNA, 23S rDNA and the IGS region, thus covering the whole rrn operon with eight restriction enzymes. Only EcoRI differentiated Lact. delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus from Lact. delbrueckii subsp. delbrueckii/Lact. delbrueckii subsp. lactis, which confirmed the finding of other authors. Ribotyping with different enzymes under precisely optimized conditions revealed a high level of strain polymorphism. Only ribotyping with EcoRI allowed differentiation of the three subspecies on the basis of typical hybridization patterns. CONCLUSION: The successful differentiation of the three subspecies of Lact. delbrueckii by EcoRI ribotyping offers a new possibility for precise identification and differentiation of strains and new isolates. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: Both methods could be used for differentiation of Lact. delbrueckii subspecies.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study is the clinical testing of the vaginal wide-range, antimicrobial, quinolone--Chlorchinaldin/0,2/by POLFA, which has a strong antibacterial, antifungal, trichomonal and keratoplastic effect. The medicine was used on 43 patients with complaints of aggravated fluor. The clinical, colposcopic and microbiologic study showed: candidiasis--in 16 trichomoniasis--in 8, bacterial vaginalis--in 3 and anaerobic vaginitis--in 2 patients. The rest of the women (14) had various aerobic microbial findings. The treatment was daily using one vaginal tablet, every night for 10 days. A control examination was carried out one week after the any of therapy. The results showed a positive clinical effect, since in 67.4% there were negative microbiological findings. The lack of effect in cases with bacterial vaginosis and anaerobic vaginitis was painted out. These results give reason to believe that the wide antimicrobial range of Chlorchinaldin B will be complementary to the currently used drugs in the treatment of vaginal infections.

ABSTRACT

Prevalence of the basis types of pneumoconioses (silicosis, silicotuberculosis, asbestosis) in Bulgaria was studied during a 7-year period (1985-1991). Information was taken from reports of the Department for silicosis and other pneumoconioses control in the country. As a basis of the investigation serves the total number of workers endangered by dust exposure in different risk branches. The more rarely encountered pneumoconioses are referred to in absolute numbers. Trends in the development and prognosis of the most frequently encountered pneumoconiosis in Bulgaria could be followed. Recommendations are given for future preventive activity.

ABSTRACT

The results from a study on serum interferon in newborns and their mothers are described. The newborns infants receive serum interferon transplacentally in a relative part of the examined cases. Coincidence in the levels of interferon in newborns and their mothers is found in 50% of the cases. Intrauterine synthesized interferon (5.8%) with considerable concentration is also established, due probably to ascendant virus infection.
