ABSTRACT

Long-term denture wearers undergo facial changes as a result of occlusal wear of the dentures and residual ridge resorption. This study examined 12 such patients, presenting with a clinical appearance of Angle's Class III occlusal relationships, to evaluate a clinical method of determining the correct mandibular position. Complete dentures were fabricated for each patient using standard clinical procedures, but acrylic resin blocks were left on the mandibular posterior bases instead of denture teeth. Ensuing changes in maxillomandibular relationships were recorded. After the stabilization of the mandibular relationship, the dentures were completed using mandibular posterior teeth. Patients were evaluated using cephalometric analysis before and after treatment. Results show that a careful procedure of denture fabrication allows the determination of the correct mandibular relationship, even in patients who have experienced extreme facial collapse.

ABSTRACT

The type and the sequence of dental and dentoalveolar discrepancies accompanying Class I were investigated in this study in a sample of 8.018 children with dental and dentoalveolar discrepancies was found to be significant reaching the 43.8%. Orthodontic treatment is essential in a 20.2% of the cases. The most commonly observed discrepancies were found to be the posterior crossbite and the crowding of the teeth with the canines being usually buccally displaced.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this cephalometric investigation is to find out the dental and dentofacial relationships of the incisors with the skeletal vertical type of the face. The material of this study consisted of 200 lateral skull radiographs of an equal number of adult Greeks with normal occlusion and harmonious face. Ten cephalometric variables were measured and statistically analysed. The statistical analysis has been made separately for males and females. The mean value, standard deviation, maximum and minimum values were calculated for each variable. The following three factorial analyse of correspondences leaded to the definition of the existent relationships between the anterior teeth and the vertical facial type.

ABSTRACT

In this study the ten factors which compose the Ricketts' summary analysis were measured on 81 lateral skull radiographs of adult Greeks (41 males and 40 females) with normal occlusion and harmonious face to establish cephalometric standards. The mean value, standard deviation, standard error of the mean, minimum and maximum values as well as the range of each variable were found and discussed for each sex separately as well as for the whole sample. The main conclusion of the study is that adult Greeks with normal occlusion and harmonious face present: a tendency to the brachy facial vertical type, a small retroposition of the maxilla and of the lower lip and prominent and labialy proclined lower incisors.
