ABSTRACT

We present an infrequent clinical case of rectal carcinoid tumor in a 65-year-old male. The treatment of this tumor is always surgical and selection of the technique is determined by the patient's age, the size and location of the neoplasm and particularly by the presence of invasion of the muscular layer in the pathology study. Simple excision of tumors under 2 cm. and abdominoperineal or low anterior resection of lesions over 2 cm. are recommended. Mason's trans-sphincter approach can be indicated in cases like ours, which permits an ample excision with margins of safety and functional conservation of the anal sphincter structure.

The ultrastructure was studied of 2 cases of proliferative fasciitis (PF) which affected the fascia and subcutaneous fat. Two basic cell types were observed in the lesions: fibroblast-like, and giant cells. The fibroblast-like cells had myofibroblastic ultrastructural characteristics. The giant cells showed a well-developed, rough endoplasmic reticulum, irregularly distributed filaments and clear lipid droplets in their cytoplasms. Ultrastructurally, the giant cells seemed to belong to a cellular line capable of synthesizing ground substances and extracellular fibers, but with a modified phenotype. A consistent feature was the presence of nodular aggregates of numerous proliferating perivascular cells. Transitional forms between perivascular, fibroblast-like, and giant cells were observed. Our hypothesis is that perivascular cells (activated pericytes) are the source of the fibroblast-like and giant cells in proliferative fasciitis.

The authors have carried out an optic and ultrastructural study of cryptorchidic testicles, confirming classical observations, but calling the attention towards the existence of an increased number of nerve endings in the cryptorchidic testicles in relation to those which have descended, and pointing out the characteristics of these endings and the regressive changes which they undergo.

The revision of one case of transitional cell carcinoma of the prostate, studied by the Department of Pathology of the Hospital General y Clínico de Tenerife, comparing the results with those in the foreign bibliography. The authors discussed the possibility that the tumoration had it's origin in the periurethral ducts at the expense of the "basal" or "reserve" cells. Therefore the symptomatology is inespecific, for which we have-special emphasis in the histologic study of the lesion as diagnostic means. The transurethral resection (TUR) is suitable for the diagnosis and estrogenic therapy doesn't seem to give good results.

This is a research on the pulmonary normal and pathological (Diabetes) maturity of the WISTAR's Rat. To do that we have chosen 6 lots of rats. The animals were sacrificed by killing them up to 15., 18. and 21. days of pregnancy, then we removed the amniotic liquid from each rat to know or find out the lecithin/sphingomyelin and creatinin relations or reports.

This is a research on the pulmonary normal maturity of a Wistar's Rat from the biochemic and morphological point of view. To do that we have chosen 3 lots of 5 rats each. The animals were sacrificed by killing them up to 15, 18 and 21 days of pregnancy. Then we have removed the amniotic liquid of each rat to know or study the creatinin concentration and the lecithin/sphingomyelin relation or report. To every foetus that we have got from every rat we have removed or extirpated the lungs to do a study under the optic microscope by using the hematoxilin-eosin together with the Fontana-Masson techniques.

This is a research on the pulmonary normal and pathological (Diabetes) of a Wistar's rat from a morphological point of view doing a comparative study with biochimic data or results. To do this we have sacrified by killing the different animals up to 15, 18 and 21 days of pregnancy and then we have removed or extripated the foetus lungs to do a study under the optic microscope by using the Hematoxilin-eosin together with the Fontana-Masson-techniques.

Lung tissues from died premature babies were studied by means of the fluorescein technic, using anti-IgG, anti-IgM, anti-fr. C-3 of the complement and anti-fibrinogen. It is shown that fibrinogen, IgG and C-3 fr. of the complement are present in the hyaline membrane. In view of these findings, and upon the available data on the subject and current research, the role of the complement in the production of hyaline membrane is discussed.
