ABSTRACT

SUMMARY This study aimed to evaluate the chemical composition and in situ degradability of Marandu grass silages with bran babassu. It adopted a completely randomized design with five treatments (0, 5, 10, 15 and 20% of babassu meal inclusion based on natural matter) with five repetitions. PVC silos were used, adopting compression pressure of 550 kg / m3. For the degradability test was used a half-breed sheep fistulated in the rumen, with completely randomized design with a split plot arrangement, silages represent parcels and incubation times (6, 24, 96 and 120 hours) the subplots. The pH increases by including babassu meal, there was a linear effect (P 0.05) on dry matter content due to the addition of the byproduct. Quadratic effect on the crude protein content, with the maximum value obtained with the inclusion of 17.16% bran. Fiber neutral detergent, acid detergent fiber and pulp decreased with increasing addition of bran. The lignin and hemicellulose were not affected by the use of the additive. The dry matter disappearance increased with the incubation time. The soluble fraction and the maximum potential degradation were observed in silages with addition of 20%. The babassu meal behaved like great absorbing moisture, increased protein and reduced fiber consequently raised the potential for degradation of silages.

ABSTRACT

SUMMARY The objective of the present work was to evaluate the in situ degradability of dry matter (DM) and the composition of components morphological leaf and stem of Urochloa brizantha cv. Marandu in silvopastoral systems composed of palms of babassu palm (Attalea speciosa) and monoculture systems in region Pre-Amazon Maranhense. The experimental design was completely randomized with 0, 80, 131, 160 adult palms.ha-1, characterizing monoculture (Mono), low density of palm trees (LDP), average density of palm trees (ADP) and high density of palm trees (HDP) during the periods rainy and dry. Representative samples were taken from each one of the systems silvipastoris, using squares of 0.25m2. They were positioned at random in representative points of pastures at the time of sampling and the plants contained inside of each square were cut every 28 days, flush to the ground. The samples, after heavy, morphological components were separated in leaves and culms, carried the oven and made the laboratory analysis. The shade provided by trees of babassu influenced the nutritive value of Marandu grass both evaluation periods, mainly in crude protein content in silvopastoral systems, it has been observed that the in situ degradability of dry matter of the leaves was greater than the stem and that there was little influence of grazing systems in parameters of degradability.

ABSTRACT

This research was conducted during the rainy season in the goats sector of the Department of Animal Science of Federal University of Piauí with the objective to evaluate the morphology and nutritive value of sward for sheep in pastures of Marandu and Tanzania at 22 and 36 days of growth. It were evaluated the herbage mass, sward height, percentage of leaf, stem and dead material, the chemical composition, digestibility and forage intake by sheep. The occurrence of dry spells during the regrowth period of 36 days, resulted in lower growth of plants, with no difference between ages for herbage mass, sward height and percentage of leaves. The extension of the growing season resulted in increased proportion of dead material in pasture, decrease in nutritional value of forage, with a reduction in crude protein content and digestibility and increased in neutral detergent fiber and acid detergent fiber. Forage intake was similar among the grasses, whereas at 36 days of regrowth nutrient intake would be sufficient only for maintenance and the extension of regrowth period of 22 to 36 days leads to a reduction in forage intake by sheep due to a drop in forage quality, much of its nutritional value as the sward structure.

ABSTRACT

It was evaluated the production and quality of milk produced by goats grazing Panicum maximum Jacq cv. Tanzania (Guineagrass) and receiving four levels of concentrate supplementation. Eight Anglo Nubian goats, aged between two and four years, 43.6 kg in average body weight and between the 2nd and 4th lactation were distributed into two 4 x 4 balanced Latin square design. The supplementation levels were: 0.0, 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5% of body weight. The concentrate was composed of corn and soybean meal. The intake of dry matter and nutrients, and the daily production of milk, 4% fat-corrected milk, fat, protein, lactose and total solids had increased (p 0.05) with supplementation, whereas fat and total solids percentage were reduced (p 0.05). The concentrate supplementation up to 1.5% of live weight in Tanzania-grass pasture raises the intake of dry matter and nutrients, resulting in a linear increase in milk production and of its components.

ABSTRACT

This study evaluated the influence of Tanzania-grass sward height (30, 50, 70 and 90 cm) on the morphological characteristics of the canopy, grazing behavior and forage intake by adult Anglo Nubian female goats. A completely randomized experimental design was employed, with two replicates in space and two replicates in time. Six animals were used to assess the grazing behavior, and four, the ingestion process. The rise in sward height increased the forage and leaf mass, the percentages of stem and dead material, and reduced the leaf stem-1 ratio. Above 50 cm there was an increase in grazing time and a decrease in leisure time. A positive linear correlation was detected between sward height and bite depth. The consumed forage mass, ingestion rate and daily intake were higher at 50 cm, indicating that the other heights reduced the intake process. The sward height was negatively correlated to the bite rate and positively to the bite time. The sward height of 50 cm presents the best combination of features, favoring the grazing and ingestive behavior of female adult goats.

ABSTRACT

The effect of including detoxified castor bean meal to substitute soy bean meal was evaluated to sheep finishing diets on intake, digestibility and energy value of the diets. A positive linear effect was verified for ether extract intake and acid detergent fiber with an intake raise of 0.015 g/BW0.75 in ether extract and 0.090 g/BW0.75 in acid detergent fiber per each unit percentage of detoxified castor bean meal added to the diet. There was maximun value in hemicellulose intake when included 39.55% of detoxified castor bean meal to the diet. Negative linear effect was verified for dry matter, organic matter, crude protein, total carbohydrates digestibility, respectively, with 0.0536, 0.0507, 0.0705 and 0.0572% decreases per unit percentage of detoxified castor bean meal added. Positive quadratic effect was verified for neutral detergent fiber and hemicellulose digestibility with 54.93 and 64.53% maximum in levels of the 38.6 and 31.4, respectively. Detoxified castor bean meal inclusion does not influence dry matter and nutrients intake, attending these animal class nutritional requirements. Including detoxified castor bean meal decreases dry mater, organic matter, crude protein, total carbohydrates digestibility, being in this situation recommended the inclusion of to 33% in the diet by allowing high neutral detergent fiber and hemicellulose digestibility. ABSTRACT

The aim of this research study was to evaluate the bromatological composition and leaf-to-stem ratio of Campo-Grande stylo, at five regrowth ages, with and without phosphorus. The investigation was carried out in a randomized blocks experimental design, with four replications in a 2 x 5 factorial arrangement two levels of phosphorus (with or without) and five cutting ages (30, 35, 40, 45 and 50 days). Phosphorus was applied as a single superphosphate, equivalent to 50 kg ha-1 P2O5. The leaf-to-stem ratio (L/S) and the percentage of crude protein (CP) decreased with increasing age of regrowth, with and without phosphorus fertilization. Crude protein yield (CPY) with phosphorus fertilization increased linearly; yield without fertilization was quadratic, decreasing between 45 and 50 days of regrowth. The percentages of dry matter (DM) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) increased with regrowth age. The percentage of acid detergent fiber (ADF) followed a quadratic trend, decreasing at the ages of 45 and 50 days. Phosphorus fertilization had no effect on L/S, CP, DM, NDF and ADF of Campo-Grande stylo. The age of regrowth of 30 and 50 days have minimal effect on the bromatological composition of Campo-Grande stylo.
