ABSTRACT
The article presents in the ophthalmoergonomic aspect data from studies on the character of labour activity, condition of visual organs, vision conditions, and functions of the visual analyzer in dental mechanics. It has been ascertained that during the labour process, it is the functions of accommodation and contrast sensitivity of the eye that bear the highest strain (P < 0.05), and by the vision conditions delineation, the dental mechanic's work is on the list of those jobs requiring high visual efficiency (III B category of visual jobs according to the adopted and enforced standards classification), which facts necessitate ensuring high levels of illumination. Recommendatory measures are presented designed to prevent in dental mechanics general and visual fatigue (eyestrain and to maintain their capacity for work.

Programmers working with video-display terminals showed essential disorders of the functional state of the free-radical oxidation system indicating an essential overstrain of this system, presence of its latent insufficiency characteristic of activation of the lipid peroxidation. Chronic overstrain of the free-radical oxidation system may lead to decompensation and formation of a free-radical pathologic process. Prophylactic measures for this category of workers are recommended.

The state of visual working capacity was comparatively investigated under conditions of natural light and artificial light using different sources of light (filament lamps, luminescent, sodium, mercury-arc lamps). It was found that sodium lamps were most adequate for high functional capacity of the visual analyzer.

The authors analyzed data of ane examination of 407 user of video display terminals of large computer centers in Kiev and revealed high morbidity of the circulatory digestive and locomotor organs. An analysis of 878 analogous cases in the GDR revealed lower involvement of the mentioned organs. Causes are analyzed. Ways of prophylaxis are outlined.
