ABSTRACT

The effects of exogenous dinitrosyl iron complexes with glutathione ligands on the parameters of oxidative metabolism in the rat blood are studied. The intensity of LPO, total antioxidant activity, and MDA level in the plasma are compared in rats receiving intraperitoneal injections of saline without and with dinitrosyl iron complexes in various concentrations (0.15, 0.30, 0.45, and 0.60 mM). Glutathione-containing dinitrosyl iron complexes are characterized by antioxidant effect that non-linearly depended of the dose with optimum at 0.30-0.45 mM.

ABSTRACT

The effects of inhalation of singlet oxygen mixture, dry and humidified ozone-oxygen mixture, and ozonated oils on heart rate variability as well as on the rate and control mechanisms of microcirculation were examined in rats. The most optimal were the responses of systemic and regional hemodynamics to inhalation of the gas produced by a generator of singlet oxygen and humidified ozone-oxygen mixtures. Singlet oxygen stabilized the cardiac rhythm and augmented microcirculation via activation of "internal" (endothelial and neurogenic) regulatory mechanisms.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this work was to estimate the dynamics of blood physical and chemical parameters when blood specimens were processed by singlet oxygen in vitro. Our experiments were executed with whole blood specimens of healthy people (n=10). Each specimen was divided into five separate portions of 5 ml. The first portion was a control (without any exposures). The second one was processed by an oxygen-ozone mixture (at ozone concentration of 500 mcg/l, the third portion--by oxygen, and the fourth and fifth ones were processed by a gas mixture with singlet oxygen (50 and 100% of generator power). In blood samples after processing we studied the activity of lactate dehydrogenase, aldehyde dehydrogenase and superoxide dismutase, erythrocyte and plasma levels of glucose and lactate, acid-base balance and the partial pressure of gases in blood. It was found out, that blood processing by singlet oxygen leads to optimization of energy, detoxication and antioxidant enzymes functioning with changes in plasma and erythrocyte level of glucose and lactate, normalization of blood gases level and acid-base balance. Our results show, that the effect of singlet oxygen on enzyme activity is more pronounced than exposure to an oxygen-ozone gas mixture.

ABSTRACT

Activity of lactate dehydrogenase in direct and reverse reactions, activity of aldehyde dehydrogenase, blood lactate and glucose levels, pro- and antioxidant balance in the blood were analyzed in rats after inhalations of singlet oxygen for 10 days. The course of inhalations improves antioxidant reserve of the blood and activity of blood oxidoreductases in healthy animals, thus strengthening the adaptive potential of the body.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this work was the analysis of singlet oxygen and the ozone effect on lipid peroxidation and antioxidant activity of rat organs and blood. Wistar rats were randomly divided into five groups: control group (without any manipulations; n = 10) and four main groups (n = 10 in each group) with inhalations by dry, moisture and oil-processed ozone-oxygen mixture (ozone concentration 60 micro g/l) or singlet oxygen, respectively. Activity of pro- and antioxidant systems was estimated in blood and tissues (lungs, heart, liver and kidney) by inducing biochemiluminescence. Singlet oxygen was shown to exert the "mildest" effect with stimulation of blood antioxidant potential and saving tissue oxidative potential without hyperactivation of lipid peroxidation. Use of moistened ozone-oxygen mixture caused moderate stimulating action on antioxidant re serves of blood and tissues. Dry ozone-oxygen mixture clearly decreased lipid peroxidation intensity.
