ABSTRACT

The results of the use of azithromycin (sumamed) in the treatment of 100 patients with fresh syphilis were analyzed. The antibiotic was used in accordance with two treatment schemes: 500 mg daily for 10 days and 500 mg every two days. The total course dose was 5 g in both the cases. The results of the treatment with azithromycin were compared with those of the treatment with erythromycin (30 g) and penicillin (300,000 U every 3 hours for 16-28 days depending on the disease stage). The results were estimated by the rate of the elimination of Treponema pallidum and syphilids as well as by the time course of the seroreactions. The analysis provided a conclusion that the therapeutic efficacy of sumamed in the treatment of patients with fresh manifest syphilis was high: by comparison with penicillin and erythromycin it more rapidly eliminated the clinical signs of syphilis and in the majority of the cases induced negativation of the cutaneous serological reactions within the first 4 months of the treatment.

ABSTRACT

Outpatient treatment of syphilis was given to 250 patients. All of them received extencilline (benzathine penicillin G) in intramuscular injections. One injection of the drug (2400000 U) was administered for primary seronegative syphilis (15 cases) and for prevention (65 subjects). Two injections with 7-day interval were carried out in the dose 2400000 U for primary seropositive (58 cases), secondary early (14 cases) and recurrent syphilis (36 cases). Patients with secondary recurrent syphilis whose body mass exceeded 85 kg (55 cases) and subjects with latent disease (72 cases) received 3 injections in 7-day intervals. Extencilline proved a potent antisyphilis tool able to rapidly eliminate clinical symptoms of the disease and to promote making serological reactions negative. Extencilline activity is superior to that of bicillin and water-soluble penicillin. Treponema pallidum escape from syphilid surface within 7 treatment hours, on the average. Extencilline is worthy of being used among most effective drugs in outpatient treatment of early syphilis.

ABSTRACT

Immunomorphologic examinations of 23 biopsy specimens of the buccal mucosa of patients with lichen ruber planus have revealed changes that confirm the hypothesis on the autoimmune nature of this disease. The basic cause of clinical manifestation of lichen planus is disordered microcirculatory system of the buccal mucosa, resultant from deposition of the immune complexes and fibrin in the vessel walls and lumen.

ABSTRACT

Activity of acid hydrolases, alkaline phosphatase and leucine aminopeptidase was studied in leukocytes of patients with leukoplakia of mouth mucosa before and after the treatment involving antioxidant drugs. The enzymatic activity studied was increased in leukoplakia. Cryotherapy combined with antioxidants and the treatment with antioxidants only contributed to a decrease in these enzymes activity.

ABSTRACT

Roaccutan efficacy and tolerance in severe forms of acne eruption (ball-shaped and conglobate) and in acne rosacea were under study. The treatment started with a daily dose of 60 mg, then the dose was gradually reduced. The course took 8-12 weeks. Roaccutan was sufficiently effective in severe forms of acne eruption and was well tolerated by the patients. Side effects, such as lip and skin dryness, are possible in the course of therapy.

ABSTRACT

The authors review the literature data on the frequency of the nail plate involvement in lichen ruber planus and on the clinical features of this condition. Four patients suffering from lichen ruber planus with various manifestations of the nail plate involvement are described. The therapy efficacy depends on the severity of inflammation in the matrix unguis.

ABSTRACT

The results of clinical trials of ditrastic, an agent manufactured by Orion, Finland, are analyzed. The drug contains 1.5 or 3% of ditranol. Of the 59 patients treated with this drug complete resolution of clinical eruptions was achieved in 43, the condition of 10 patients considerably improved, a partial effect was observed in 4, and no effect in 2 patients. Therefore ditrastic has proved to be a highly effective agent for the treatment of psoriasis, convenient for outpatient therapy.

ABSTRACT

Dermatologists and venereologists have been taking an active part in studies of the buccal mucosa involvements since 1953, when a Chair for Skin and Sexually-Transmitted Diseases has been founded at the N. A. Semashko Moscow Medical Stomatological Institute. The head of the Chair, Professor B. M. Pashkov, an authority in this field, has set up an original school of dermatostomatology. One of his disciples, A. L. Mashkilleison, heads the Chair nowadays. The present-day priority trends in the research activities of the Chair are: the immunologic aspects in the pathogenesis of various dermatoses located on the buccal mucosa, immunity disorders, the role of viruses and of genetic factors.

ABSTRACT

Analysis of 650 case histories with the erosive ulcerative lichen ruber planus has revealed the specific features of the course of this condition: subjects aged 40-70 (90.5%) women more often than men (64%), suffer from this disease. Solitary foci (in 84%) are usually localized on the buccal mucosa. Concomitant diseases are very often: gastrointestinal conditions in 51% of patients, dental abnormalities in 34%. The disease should be differentiated from erosive leukoplakia, exfoliative cheilitis, etc. Tigason therapy has been found the most effective for this condition.

ABSTRACT

The intensive morbidity index in respect of allergic dermatoses has made up 12.07 in 1986, allergic dermatitis being the most prevalent (72%). The morbidity has been the highest among subjects aged 21 to 40. Seasonal changes in the allergic dermatoses incidence rates have been determined: skin itching, urticaria, and neurodermatitis have been the most prevalent in October, whereas eczema occurred mostly in May.

ABSTRACT

Basing on analysis of case histories of 264 diabetics, the authors have developed an original classification of the dermatoses occurring in diabetes mellitus. Clinical and laboratory findings evidence the identity of changes in the peripheral blood levels of calcium and immunoreactive insulin in the patients with psoriasis, neurodermatitis, and diabetes mellitus.
