ABSTRACT

In animal experiments with spinal lesions, phylo- and ontogenetic features of development of plasticity in the CNS of mammals and high reliability of the CNS have been demonstrated. It has been shown that possibilities of compensation processes and the upper limit of plasticity increase in phylogeny. Much attention has been attached to the higher regions of the CNS and hypothalamus as well as to ecological and biological characteristics of animals. Changes in the structure and functions of the damaged spinal cord have been studied. The significance of sympathetic innervation and involvement of ATP and ATPase in the spinal cord functioning after injury have been demonstrated. The article reviews the investigations of the role of the cicatrixce and some endocrine glands (adrenal glands, pancreas, and thyroid gland) performed at the laboratory. In phylogeny, high plasticity has been demonstrated at early ontogenetic stages. Enzymes have been shown to facilitate recovery of spinal functions after injury.

ABSTRACT

Experiments with rats have shown that thermoregulation under normal conditions and in response to stressful factors (immobilization, emotionally significant sound) is different in animals of different age. The effect of these stressful factors leads to more significant temperature changes in the group of young animals, as compared with the adult ones.

ABSTRACT

We studied the effect of aminazine on transcallosal response in kittens during different periods of postnatal ontogenesis. We demonstrate that at the beginning, aminazine does not influence transcallosal response, but from Days 7-12 after birth, it leads to full inhibition of the negative component. In older kittens, aminazine also reverses late components of the response and decreases their amplitude.

ABSTRACT

The authors studied the effect of papain and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) phonophoresis on the course of purulent wounds and inflammatory processes in patients. It is shown that the use of 1% papain solution together with DMSO by means of phonophoresis is a very effective and promising method for the treatment of purulent wounds and inflammatory infiltrates. The terms of restoration of the structure of the injured tissues are reduced by 1.8 times on the average.

ABSTRACT

The article presents data about the effect of leucopaine, a vegetable enzyme preparation, on the regenerative processes of injured tissue in rabbits as well as about the treatment of purulent wounds in 303 patients under clinical conditions. Leucopaine was shown to have positive effect on the dynamics of purulent wound repair, to facilitate wound cleaning from necrotic tissues and to promote liquidation of inflammatory reaction and purulent exudation, creating favorable conditions for active growth of granulation tissue, formation of fine, unobtrusive scar. It also shortened 1.5 times the wound repairing period.
