ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: We report a retrospective study carried out in the department of intemal medicine and intensive care unit of the Regional Hospital Center of Port-Gentil and in polydinique BILIE" from January 2000 to June 2001. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 516 adults patients were observed with cardiovascular diseases (312 women, 204 men), their mean age was 50.4 +/- 16 (15-96 years). RESULTS: Among the 532 cardiovascular diseases diagnosed, there were: (a) hight blood pressure: 404 cases (75.9%): 263 women, 144 men; (b) cardiomyopathies:63 cases (11.8%); 32 cases were primary cardiomyopathies and 12 were myocarditis; (c) pericarditis: 53 cases. Among them, four cases were effusive pericarditis. If the rarity of coronary diseases, infectious endocarditis or endomyocardial fibrosis could be related to the difficulties of laboratory procedures, the rarity of rheumatic valvulopathies is more confusing. Hypertension was predominant in all age group in both sex. Myocardiopathies were homogeneously observed in all age group. Pericarditis were observed predominantly in 15-39 group age.
