ABSTRACT

Experimental investigations to determine fission product separation from actinides (U and Pu) while employing the Plutonium Uranium Recovery by Extraction (PUREX) process to purify plutonium produced in a fast neutron irradiated depleted uranium dioxide (DUO2) target were conducted. The sample was a DUO2 pellet (0.256wt% 235U) irradiated to a low-burnup (4.43±0.31GWd/tHM) that was PUREX processed 538 days after neutron irradiation. Decontamination factors (DF) for the elements U, Mo, Ru, Ce, Sm, Sr, Pm, Eu, Nd, Pd, and Cd were measured with mass spectroscopy in two experiments using 30vol% tri-n-butyl phosphate (TBP) in a kerosene diluent. The first experiment characterized Pu DFs for a single stage extraction and back-extraction, while the second experiment had multiple stages with the goal of achieving greater Pu recovery. The benchtop scale PUREX process had overall Pu recoveries of (83.4±9.5)% and (99.7±4.2)% for the first and second experiments, respectively.

ABSTRACT

Abstract This paper presents an overview about the Internet of Things (IoT) in health area, focusing on solutions that currently exist in home-centric health. The IoT implemented in health area, allows that many people, regardless of their social class, using the services through the IoT could offer, and many countries are being implemented. Considering that in the coming decades, the model will transform health care in this hospital-centric commonly known to a health model focused entirely on the home, in which lower labor intensity and operating costs will be taken at home. The health service at home allows get advantage about the use of IoT technology, often called as IoT Health. This sounds promising for the health industry and the ICT sector in general, because it let you to customize the sanitary service, accelerating their evolution.

ABSTRACT

The aim of the present study was to determine phenotypic correlations between body weight of the alpaca at shearing (PCE), greasy fleece weight (PVS), clean fleece weight (PVL), performance of the fibre Andalusia wash (RFL), mean diameter of the fibre (DMF), fibre length (LF), number of loops (NR), incidence of spinal cord fibres (IM), body weight at parturition (PCP) and body weight of calf at birth (PCC). The study considered 185 white Huacaya alpacas, 1 to 7 years old, from the Lachocc Experimental Center of South American Camelids, Universidad Nacional de Huancavelica, in 2007 and 2008. The phenotypic correlations were: PVS-PVL = 0.99, PVS-LF = 0.55, PVS-DMF = 0.52, PVS-PCE = 0.41, PVL-LF = 0.57, PVL-DMF = 0.54, PVL-PCE = 0.43 (p<0.01). Fleece weight does not show any interference with main characteristics related to fibre production, and due to the high interrelation between dirty fleece weight and diameter of fibre, it can beused as a valid criterion for selection in a genetic improvement programme aimed at fibre production.

ABSTRACT

beta2-Microglobulin accumulation with resultant tumor formation is a known albeit rare complication of long-term hemodialysis. Although these tumors may occur in various locations, subcutaneous shoulder nodules are very infrequent. We report a patient with end-stage kidney failure who had been on hemodialysis for 16 years and noted left shoulder nodules after initiation of hemodialysis; these nodules had slowly grown larger. Biopsy of one of these nodules revealed beta2-microglobulin amyloidosis by histopathology, Congo red stain, electron microscopy, and immunohistochemistry.
