ABSTRACT

Comparative estimation of immediate and late follow-up results of treatment was con- ducted in 520 patients, suffering cancer of the colonic right half, including coecum - in 227 (43.7% ± 2.1%), colon ascendum - in 159(30.7% ± 2.0%), right colonic flexure - in 66 (12.9% ± 1.3%), right half of colon transversum - in 66 (12.9% ± 4.2%). In 463 (89.0% ± 1.4%) patients radical operations were performed, while in 57 (11.0% ± 1.7%) - the symptomatic. After radical operations 8 (1.7% ± 0.5%) patients died, and after the symptomatic - 3 (5.3% ± 3.0%). Definite surgical treatment was performed in 258 (60,8% ± 2,4%) patients, the combined one - in 166 (39.2% ± 2.4%). Five-year survival have constituted (64.2% ± 5.5%) for the patients, operated on for the colon ascendumcancer, and (19.1% ± 5.7%) - for cancer of right colonic flexure; while after combined treatment - (40.4% ± 5.8%) in patients, operated on for cancer of coecum, (29.4% ± 11.9%) - right half of colon transversum; ten-year survival have constituted (16.8% ± 2.7%) for the patients, who were radically operated for cancer of coecum, and (4.8% ± 2.6%) - for cancer of right colonic flexure (p<0,005). Late follow-up results of radical treatment of the colonic right half depends essentially on localization and degree of the cancer spread.

ABSTRACT

The article presents some risk factors of breast cancer development and prognosis of the disease in Ukrainian patients. The frequency of 5382ins and 185delAG mutations in gene BRCA 1 and mutations of 6174delT in gene BRCA 2 was detected in the group of patients from Ukraine.

ABSTRACT

Fluorimetric method was used to measure preoperative blood plasma-vitamin A level in 100 gastric cancer patients and 64 healthy controls. The data obtained were analyzed versus site, stage and anatomic growth pattern of tumor. Vitamin A level was found to significantly decrease in 66% of gastric cancer patients, these changes being the most apparent in stage III tumor involvement of two segments of the stomach and endophytic type of growth. It is recommended that measures to correct blood plasma-vitamin A deficiency be taken in stomach cancer patients throughout treatment period.

ABSTRACT

Combined treatment of colonic cancer with pre- and postoperative chemotherapy, or with preoperative irradiation by intensive method increases the five-year survival by 9.2 and 14.1%, respectively, when compared with the surgical treatment only, but simultaneously the number of purulent complications at the early postoperative period increases 3-fold. A cryosurgical method in colonic cancer has not the disadvantages of the radio- and chemotherapy.

ABSTRACT

Radioimmunologic assays of blood serum carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) level were conducted at major stages of treatment of gastric cancer by subtotal stomach resection and gastrectomy with preliminary cryotreatment and thawing of tumor. A short-term rise in CEA level occurred in 53.9% of cases 3-4 days after combined therapy. A decrease in CEA concentration at discharge from hospital as compared with preoperative level and that registered 3-4 days after operation was observed in 50 and 75% of cases of combined therapy, respectively, and 47.5 and 37.5% of controls (surgery without cryotreatment). There was no correlation between cryotreatment and changes in CEA level in gastric ulcer patients.
