ABSTRACT

The hormonal function of the hypophysis and thyroid (TTG, T3, T4) and its dependence on hepatobiliary function, examined by hepatobiliscintigraphy, were studied by radioimmunoassay in 71 patients with chronic opisthorchiasis and in 18 chronic carriers of Salmonella typhi. in both groups. The decrease of T3 and T4 in the presence of normal TTG level was found. The imbalance of thyroid hormones activity is likely to be associated with hepatobiliary dysfunction. In chronic opisthorchiasis the hormonal disturbance may be one of the factors favouring the S. typhi carriership.

ABSTRACT

Insulin, C-peptide and glucagon levels were measured by radioimmunoassay in the blood of 42 patients with chronic opisthorchiasis and 27 healthy subjects. An insignificant decrease in insulin levels and a drastic decrease in C-peptide and glucagon levels have been established.

ABSTRACT

Thirty-five psoriatic arthritis patients underwent combined treatment including plasmapheresis given in 3 sessions with a 7-day interval. Plasma elimination reached 500-600 ml per session. Additional polyglucin and saline administration was introduced to correct circulating plasma. Chemotherapy involved nonsteroid antiinflammatory drugs, cytostatics, corticosteroids. It is believed++ that plasmapheresis is a beneficial adjuvant to chemotherapy in psoriatic arthritis potentiating the drugs action and correcting immunity.

ABSTRACT

Paper presents the data on the content of hypophysial-thyroid and hypophysial-adrenal systems' hormones obtained by means of radioimmune assay, and the data of timecourse hepatoscintibiligraphy with Tc 99 m TCK-15 of 94 patients (first group--48 patients with psoriatic arthiritis combined with chronic opisthorchiasis; second group--46 pure psoriatic arthritis patients). Statistically significant increase in the content of triiodinethyronine, thyroxine, hypophysial thyreotropic hormone, corticotropic hormone and significant reduction of cortizol and aldosteron contents were observed in case of mixed pathology. Thyroid hormones' level was directly connected with hepatic and gallbladder disfunctions. The above-mentioned changes belong to pathogenetic mixed-pathology factors which should be taken into account in elaboration of best treatment methods.

ABSTRACT

The authors presented the results of clinical, x-ray and osteoscintigraphic investigations of 133 psoriatic arthritis patients and 72 patients with common psoriasis. Osteoscintigraphy was performed using a routine method with 99mTc-pyrophos (USSR) and 99mTc-phosphone (Hungary) on gamma-camera LFOV (Nuclear-Chicago, USA). X-ray signs of the involvement of the osteoarticular system were noted in 69 (51%) patients with psoriatic arthritis and in 16 (22%) patients with common psoriasis. The method permitted the detection of the foci of RP hyperfixation in 129 (97%) patients with psoriatic arthritis and in 51 (70.8%) patients with common psoriasis. They were observed mostly in large and small limb joints, less frequently--in the vertebral column, cranial bones, thorax, and ribs. Thus, osteoscintigraphy is a highly sensitive method for the detection of active inflammatory foci of the osteoarticular system in psoriasis at all stages of arthritis development. It makes it possible to detect the spreading of arthritis and its preclinical forms.

ABSTRACT

Clinical and biochemical examinations and radioimmunoassays, carried out in 52 patients suffering from psoriatic arthritis, have revealed abnormal levels of total and ionized blood calcium and of calcium-regulating hormones. An imbalance of calcitropic hormones and abnormal calcium metabolism promote the development of osteoporosis in psoriatic arthritis.

ABSTRACT

The authors analyze the findings of clinical, x-ray, and osteoscintigraphic examinations of 69 patients with psoriasis. Osteoscintigraphy has revealed latent psoriatic arthropathy in 49 (71%) patients. This method is an effective diagnostic tool for the detection of early involvement of the bone-and-joint system in psoriasis.
