ABSTRACT

The efficacy of the preventive treatment with Cordaron was studied in patients with paroxysmal supraventricular tachyarrhythmia and tachycardia. The patients were followed up for an average period of 22.5 months. The daily dose was between 100 and 300 mg. Control examinations were performed at 4-6 week intervals and the corrected Q-T interval of the ECG was taken into account. On the 3d, 6th, 12th and 18th month the patients were examined by an ophthalmologist and the thyroid hormones were examined once in a year. The correlation between the time of onset of the arrhythmia, the dose of the drug and its prophylactic efficacy was studied as well as between the duration of the treatment, the dose of the drug and the complications. In the basic group of 18 patients with paroxysmal atrial flutter a stable lasting effect was achieved in 56% of the patients and in 22% of the patients the attacks became significantly more rare. The efficacy in the patients with paroxysmal atrial taxhycardia was 100%. The favorable results depended on the time of onset of the arrhythmia. No correlation between the supporting dose of the drug and the Q-Tc was found. Complications were found in 84% of the patients at the end of the 3-year period of the study. They were related to the duration of the treatment but not to the size of the supporting drug dose.

ABSTRACT

Altogether 110 patients with different pancreatic diseases were examined on the Picker magna-scanner 500 I (USA) with 75Se-methionine (9.2 MBq). Glucose load at a dose of 0.33 g/kg is recommended 50 min before examination increasing RP accumulation in the pancreas parenchyma and improving scanographic image. It is pointed out that the coincidence of scanographic and pathohistological diagnoses in pancreas cancer is noted in 62.5%, in cystic formations in 89%, and in chronic pancreatitis in 93% cases.

ABSTRACT

An epidemiologic study on thyroid gland cancer in the catchment area of Stara Zagora District Oncological Dispensary with a population of 645,000 was conducted in 1964-1983. The morbidity rate was 1.62/100,000 population, thyroid cancer amounting to 0.83% of all malignancies. Female morbidity was 2.7 times that of males. The highest level of morbidity for both sexes was in the age interval of 31-50 years. Morbidity in urban and rural areas was on the ratio of 1.5:1.

ABSTRACT

Sixty-one patients were admitted for treatment with suspicion of thyroid cancer. Multimodality diagnosis and therapy were used including a medical history, general and local status, laboratory findings, x-ray examination of the lungs and bones, radioisotope and radioimmunological in vivo and in vitro tests, thyroid resection, rapid histological examination, total strumectomy, curietherapy using 131I and substituting hormonotherapy with the dry thyroid extract. The feasibility of the scannographic method in early diagnosis and detection of thyroid cancer or rejected suspicion of recurrence of metastases is emphasized. It is indicated in rapid histological examination that determines the volume of surgical intervention. 131I therapy with the activity of 185-370 is sufficient for a complete ablation of the thyroid residue and the prevention of recurrence or metastatic appearance in other organs irrespective of a histological type of carcinoma. The patients were followed up for 5 years.

ABSTRACT

Nineteen patients with non-complicated myocardial infarction were followed-up. A veloergometric testing was carried out by the fourth and seventh month after the coronary incident. The dynamics of a considerable number of indices (obtained via non invasive way), with regards to the external work and the work of the heart were followed up. The author found that the capacity of threshold loading, quantity of the work performed, PWC170, maximum loading capacity/maximum pulse rate, tension-frquency index and coronary reserve were changed in a more undeviating and one-way and when followed in dynamics, they could serve for the objectivization of the state of the patients. The data from the psycho-somatic state and the concomitant chronic diseases were recommended to be given consideration in the complex evaluation. All that provided grounds for a more precise evaluation of the results from the rehabilitation and effective readjustment of the patients.

ABSTRACT

Twenty five patients with myocardial infarction were followed up under the conditions of systematic rehabilitation. They were tested by the veloergometer at the beginning of the fourth and seventh month post the coronary incident. The dynamics of the indices concerning the outer work and oxygen consumption of the myocardium was followed up. The author found that the indices of outer work (capacity of threshold loading and volume of the work carried out) reflect the improved physical capacity of the patients respectively. The dynamics of the indices for the heart work, myocardial oxygen consumption respis not so regular and puts certain problems forward. That fact demanded the inclusion of additional parameters, being revelant to the myocardial contractility. In this way, the rehabilitation regimen could be more precisely determined as well as the effectivity of the therapeutic measures carried out.
