ABSTRACT

This study is part of a project about ICU's characteristics in São Paulo city. This article describes the continuing education programs for nursing staff. 43 ICUs were analysed and the questionnaire answered by the ICU nurse coordinator was used to collect data. Results showed that 34 (79.1%) of the ICUs have initial program for training each nursing staff category and 18 (41.9%) had regular continuing education program focusing primarily on nursing procedures and routines and the update in pathologies. Continuing education programs are developed primarily by ICU's nurses. 50.2% of the nurses answered that they attended specialisation/extension courses too, in Medical Surgical Nursing or in other areas or in both areas. Due to this result and the development of the ICU's nurses as specialists, some suggestions are presented to improve the continuing education program in these Units.

ABSTRACT

The social rehabilitation represents a challenge to ostomy patient and a concern for health professional team. This study intends to verify the difficulties related to returning to the daily domestic, leisure, job and sexual activities showed by 45 ostomizeds after hospital discharge in different periods of late post operative. The data was obtained from patients assisted by two Outpatient Services of São Paulo city, through the interviews. The patients were selected by previous established criteria agreement and then subdivided in three groups as the post operative period. It's possible to verify that the majority of the clients didn't returned totally or returned only partially to the daily activities like before the disease or surgery, specially in the sexual area. They justified these difficulties by physical problems, insecurity and the use of inadequate appliances.

ABSTRACT

This study is to verify the psychomotor skill using psychomotor capacity measure. The authors describe two tests that will be used by nurses denominated "electronic psychomotor" and "perferation". Those tests are applied in the first stage of this study to analyse the teaching-learning process of intramuscular injection. Three groups of undergraduate nursing students in different stages of evolution of the course, were analysed and were verified that there was homogeneity among groups in relation to psychomotor capacity.

ABSTRACT

The nursing care is based on the nursing assessment. In the nurse's professional activity there aren't clarity and consensus about the clinical entities, problems or phenomenons that nurses intended to care. Difficulties in deciding what should be collected are determined by this indefinition, that it is also present in nursing graduate courses. In this article the authors discuss that the Nursing Diagnosis can be the framework for the nursing assessment.

ABSTRACT

This study characterizes some rehabilitation's agencies which provide assistance to deficients from Grande São Paulo. Analysis of data showed: the inadequate number and geographic distribution of theses institutions; the predominance of private agencies which promote variable services; just two agencies offered nursing services; the major group of patients was childrens and adolescents of both sexes. The authors believe that it's fundamental to make a reflexion about the resources to assist the deficient patients, the quality of the assistance and the effective participation of the nurse in this process.
