ABSTRACT

Lung lesions can increase the CT number and affect the water-equivalent diameter (Dw), Dw-based conversion factor (CFw), and Dw-based size-specific dose estimate (SSDEw). We evaluated the effect of COVID-19 lesions and total severity score (TSS) on radiation dose considering the effect of automatic tube current modulation (ATCM) and fixed tube current (FTC). A total of 186 chest CT scans were categorised into five TSS groups, including healthy, minimal, mild, moderate and severe. The effective diameter (Deff), Dw, CFw, Deff-based conversion factor (CFeff), volume computed tomography dose index (CTDIVol), pathological dose impact factor (PDIF) 1 and SSDEw were calculated. TSS was correlated with Dw (r = 0.29, p-value = 0.001), CTDIVol (ATCM) (r = 0.23, p = 0.001) and PDIF (r = - 0.51, p-value = 0.001). $\overline{{\mathrm{SSDE}}_{\mathrm{w}}}$ (FTC) was significantly different among all groups. $\overline{{\mathrm{SSDE}}_{\mathrm{w}}}$ (ATCM) was greater for moderate (13%) and mild (14%) groups. Increasing TSS increase the Dw and causes a decrease in CFw and $\overline{{\mathrm{SSDE}}_{\mathrm{w}}}$ (FTC), and can increase $\overline{{\mathrm{SSDE}}_{\mathrm{w}}}$ (ATCM) in some Dw ranges.

ABSTRACT

We assessed the combined impacts of human demineralized bone matrix (hDBM) scaffold, adipose-derived stem cells (hADS), and photobiomodulation (PBM) on bone repair of a critical size femoral defect (CSFD) in 72 rats. The rats were divided into six groups: control (group 1); ADS (group 2 - ADS transplanted into hDBM); PBM (group 3 - PBM-treated CSFDs); ADS + PBM in vivo (group 4 - ADS transplanted into hDBM and the CSFDs were treated with PBM in vivo); ADS + PBM in vitro (group 5 - ADS were treated with PBM in vitro, then seeded into hDBM); and ADS + PBM in vitro+in vivo (group 6 - PBM-treated ADS were seeded into hDBM, and the CSFDs were treated with PBM in vivo. At the anabolic phase (2 weeks after surgery), bone strength parameters of the groups 5, 6, and 4 were statistically greater than the control, ADS, and PBM in vivo groups (all, p = 0.000). Computed tomography (CT) scans during the catabolic phase (6 weeks after surgery) of bone healing revealed that the Hounsfield unit (HU) of CSFD in the groups 2 (p = 0.000) and 5 (p = 0.019) groups were statistically greater than the control group. The groups 5, 4, and 6 had significantly increased bone strength parameters compared with the PBM in vivo, control, and ADS groups (all, p = 0.000). The group 5 was statistically better than the groups 4, and 6 (both, p = 0.000). In vitro preconditioned of hADS with PBM significantly increased bone repair in a rat model of CSFD in vivo.

ABSTRACT

Here a matlab script was presented for lane tracking and band detection on the pulsed field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) images. It can also be used as a software tool for automatic analysis of PFGE images. The data consist of several MATLAB codes which collectively have the task of lane tracking, band detecting and pattern recognition on the PFGE images. The lane tracking stage is semi-automatic and the band detection stage is fully automatic. Finally, the pattern of lanes that includes number of, location, width and light intensity level of bands was obtained.

ABSTRACT

Due to the radiosensitivity of paediatric patients to X-ray, it is necessary to survey the paediatric DRLs using size-specific dose estimates (SSDE). In the present study, we determined the local diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) for paediatric chest, head and abdomen-pelvis CT examinations and their Surview scans in Kermanshah city, Iran. For ≤1 year, 1-5 years, 5-10 years and 10-15 years the DRLs (mGy) based on SSDE were determined N/A, 6.00, 6.25, 8.27 for abdomen-pelvis, and 8.74, 7.45, 11.15, 10.45 for chest and 19.05, 18.33, 18.22, 20.14 for head examinations, respectively. The differences between body size and default phantom defined in CT scanners are significant and should be considered when determining the DRLs. Based on our findings, use of CTDIv and SSDE parameters for determining DRLs leads to significant different results in children; thus SSDE is suggested as a more accurate index than CTDIV for establishing DRLs in paediatric CT examinations.

ABSTRACT

The data presented here were originally collected for the research project "CT-Scan processing and analysis in patient with breast cancer after radiotherapy". Also, it reported in our study "Prediction of Lung Tissue Damage by Evaluating Clinical and Dosimetric Parameters in Breast Cancer Patients" (Hasanabdali et al., 2016) [1]. This article describes and directly links to 52 subjects referred to Mahdieh Oncology and Radiotherapy Center from February to August 2015. Treatment planning was done for delivering 50 Gy dose to PTV in 25 fractions. the lungs and heart objects were extracted from CT images along with compliance Dose plan. Dose-volume histogram (DVH) and Dose-mass histogram (DMH) extracted using CT images and dose plan matrix. Moreover, the complete clinical and dosimetric specifications of subjects is attached.
