ABSTRACT

For decades, facial beauty and esthetics have been one of the most important quests of the human race. The lateral prominence and convexity of the zygomatic bone makes it the most important bone for providing the aesthetic facial look and sets up the facial width but at the same time this prominence and convexity makes this bone more vulnerable to injury. Zygomatic complex fractures or tripod fractures are the second most common fractures after nasal fractures among facial injuries. Several studies have been undertaken regarding the reduction and fixation of zygomatic fractures with mini plates and screws. In 2002 Fujioka et al in vivo studies successfully proved that one point fixation at the zygomaticomaxillary complex gives three point alignment and sufficient rigidity when the fractures are not comminuted. In this article, 30 cases have been reviewed with one point fixation of zygomatic complex tripod fractures at the zygomatic buttress through Keen's intraoral approach along with advantages and disadvantages.

ABSTRACT

Nitrous oxide (N2O) is the most commonly used inhalation anesthetic in dentistry and is commonly used in emergency centers and ambulatory surgery centers as well. When used alone, it is incapable of producing general anesthesia reliably. However, as a single agent, it has an impressive safety and is excellent for providing minimal and moderate sedation for apprehensive minor oral surgical procedure. In this article, action of N2O in overcoming the anxiety and pain of the patient during the minor oral surgery and its advantages and disadvantages, have been reviewed.

ABSTRACT

Chest radiographic appearance of pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) in Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) positive patients was reviewed. A study group of 50 HIV +ve cases and a control group of 100 HIV -ve cases were analysed. The chest radiographs of HIV seropositive group showed significantly higher incidence of thoracic lymphadenopathy (36% vs 8%, P<.001), pleural effusion (28% vs 10%, P<.01) and miliary pattern (12% vs 2%, P<.05) as compared to the seronegative group. Cavitation was less common in the seropositive group (8% vs 35%, P<.001) than the seronegative group. Upper zone involvement was significantly less common in the study group (38% vs 77%, P<.001) as compared to the control group.

ABSTRACT

Transvaginal sonohysterography was carried out with dynamic instillation of normal saline in the uterine cavity in fourteen infertile patients. Sonohysterography was found to be simple, accurate and specific in delineating endometrial cavity lesions like polyp, submucosal myoma, intrauterine synechiae and endometrial hyperplasia.

ABSTRACT

A study of 186 infertile women was carried out to evaluate the effect of clomiphene citrate on the follicular dynamics. All patients underwent transvaginal sonography over at least 02 consecutive cycles-spontaneous followed by clomiphene stimulated cycle. Clomiphene citrate resulted in higher average follicular diameter on all corresponding days as compared to spontaneous cycles. Multifollicular response was common in clomiphene stimulated cycles.

ABSTRACT

This paper describes the characteristics of the population of Bogota: who are the people, what are their characteristics, what they do and where do they live on the basis of a detailed examination of several primary data sources. It also places the development of Bogota in an historical and national context in order to provide a better understanding of currently existing patterns. Bogota has gone through a phase of extremely rapid urbanization over the past half century during which it has grown more than ten fold. The data on fertility rates, trends in participation of women in the labor force and indications of a recent slow down in the rate of growth of Bogota suggest that the next decade will see Bogota growing much more slowly. The demographic structure of the city is much like that the other Latin American cities: it has a high proportion of women, as well as children under 15 years of age, the latter comprising more than 40 percent of the population. Thus, the labor force of Bogota can be expected to continue to expand at high rates even after the population growth slows down. The city has a balanced economic structure which is not dominated by manufacturing, nor services nor administration, as it is in some other large cities of the world. As the city has grown and its area has grown, the largest growth in population has ocurred in the outer rings, while the inner rings have not declined...(AU)
