ABSTRACT

Based on a retrospective study over a six year period, we report 15 cases of tuberculosis of the larynx, confirmed histologically. Dysphonia was the main symptom. The diagnosis rests on direct laryngoscopy and biopsy, with histology. Medical treatment achieves a good outcome.

ABSTRACT

The authors report 45 cases of tissue loss in the nose, in most cases secondary to cancer ablation, and in a few (2 cases) to trauma. The reconstructive techniques were mainly the classical ones using local flaps, usually at the same time as the tumour removal. Where the reconstruction was a total one, this involved the use of a compound extended Converse flap, which has the advantage of bringing in sufficient tissue associated with the bone graft, and also avoids the risks of thinning or exposure of the graft. The indications depend on anatomical factors, and on the extent and depth of the tissue loss. The cospetic results are very satisfactory, but it is necessary to revise the flaps in order to obtain the best final results.

ABSTRACT

The authors report 10 cases of frontal sinus osteoma. The patient group consisted of 5 men and 5 women, ranging in age from 15 to 60 years. The most common revelating symptom was headache. Treatment depends on tumor size, its course, and complications. Transfacial incision was used in 3 cases and Cairns Unterberger approach in 5 cases. Post operatively anatomic and esthetic results were good, without recurrences.

ABSTRACT

Laryngocele is usually benign affection of the larynx. But serious forms of clinical emergency necessitating tracheotomy are possible. We reported 3 cases. New methods of treatment are presented endoscopic resection and laser marsupialization.

ABSTRACT

The ossifiant fibroma is an authentic scarce benign tumoral processus. According to a literature review and two recent cases taken in charge in our service, having stand diagnostical and therapeutical problems. They seem interesting to accost the subject of the ossifiant fibroma in maxillo-facial surgery and put the accent on the differential diagnosis in histological plane between ossifiant fibroma and fibrous dysplasia having given different therapeuticals indicents. The two reported cases interest the masculine young subjects in one case with mandibular localisation and in the other one maxillary.

ABSTRACT

Between 1985 and 1990, 15 ethmoid frontal mucoceles were collated. All our patients consulted us at the exteriorization stage. A CT-scan is the ideal examination, making it possible to assert the diagnosis and to individualize the bone destruction and the neighbouring tissue repression. Trans-ethmoid or trans-nasal marsupialization by an external or endonasal approach provided excellent results after a 1 to 5 year follow-up period.

ABSTRACT

Two cases of nasal gliomas, which are rare ectopic rests of glial tissue found at the root of the nose, are presented. It is important to distinguish nasal tumors from basofrontal encephaloceles to avoid inadvertent exposure of the brain during an inadequate surgery. Because of their related embryologic origins, the distinction between nasal gliomas and basofrontal encephaleces may not be clear clinically. Nasal gliomas may be treated by several surgical specialties to avoid iatrogenic complications and recurrence.
