ABSTRACT

The rate of acetylation of xenobiotics affects the course and prognosis of infectious diseases. The efficacy of antibiotic therapy of community-acquired pneumonia in RA-patients is lower than that in LA-ones. In order to ensure the best antimicrobial effect on the onset of the disease it is required to use regimens with the maximum permissible dose of antibacterial drugs in the regions where the rapid type prevails.

ABSTRACT

Combined antibiotic therapy, including the use of intravenous cefotaxime (a beta-lactam) and azithromycin (a macrolide) was shown advantageous from both clinical and economic viewpoints in the treatment of severe community-acquired pneumonia.

ABSTRACT

From the clinicoeconomic viewpoints the treatment of community-acquired pneumonia in patients without risk factors under hospital conditions with aminopenicillins was more appropriate, whereas for the treatment of patients with risk factors the following scheme of antibiotic therapy was advantageous: a beta-lactam (cefotaxime/ceftriaxone) in combination with a macrolide (azithromycin). The recommended therapy provided statistically lower percentage of negative pneumonia processes and decreased the treatment expenditures.

ABSTRACT

The drug gevilon that produces hypolipidemic effects has been clinically tested. The drug was used to treat 53 patients suffering from coronary heart disease, hypertensive disease with severe lipid metabolic disturbances. Gevilon has been found to have a hypolipidemic effect in reducing the levels of total cholesterol, beta-cholesterol, triglycerides, increasing alpha-cholesterol levels and normalizing the atherogenicity coefficient. The hypolipidemic effect of the drug is the most pronounced in Type IIb dyslipoproteinemia. Gevilon is well tolerated by patients, it can be used in combination with the drugs given in the complex therapy for coronary heart disease and hypertension.

ABSTRACT

The paper deals with methodological problems of electrolyte intake in clinical and population-based studies. Marked inter- and intraindividual fluctuations were found to substantially affect the reliability of assessing the intake of electrolytes, which should be borne in mind in practice. Specifically, individual-based reliable characteristics of electrolyte intake (excretion) may be obtained after examining at least 8 daily urinary collections. The adequate validity of group electrolyte intake may be attained when a group consists of at least 8 persons. It is shown that it is feasible to employ the definite urine amounts to gain an insight into electrolyte intake.

ABSTRACT

Platelet and plasma lipid peroxidation (LPO) activity, and possible effect of LPO products on platelet membrane structure were examined in patients with unstable angina, an acute form of coronary disease. All parameters of LPO were increased both in the platelets and the plasma. It was demonstrated by spinning probes that platelet membrane S degree of order was increased significantly, an evidence of increased microviscosity, in patients with unstable angina. There also was a positive correlation between the S value and the level of LPO products. It is suggested that membrane disorders, in which CHD-related platelet hyperreactivity is rooted, may in part be due to PLO activation in the platelets.
