ABSTRACT

We report the case of a 37-year old woman with a history of ovarian endometriosis who was referred for cyclical episodes of hematochezia during her menstrual period. Colonoscopy and Computed Tomography were performed with a final diagnosis of appendiceal endometriosis. She was operated, evolving favorably.

ABSTRACT

Fallopian tube cancer is the less frequent gynecological cancer. It occurs typically between 40 and 65 years old. Diagnosis is usually achieved earlier than in ovarian cancer cases, due to early symptoms (typically abdominal pain, hydro-hematorrhea and adnexal mass). Preoperative correct diagnosis is infrequent, being most cases diagnosed during the surgery or in the pathological study. Histologically and clinically is similar to ovarian cancer, being the serous low differentiated the most frequent type. An early suspicion and a correct intervention are essential to obtain correct diagnosis and treatment. Treatment protocols are similar to those of ovarian cancer recommended by the FIGO.

ABSTRACT

The hydrogen peroxide is a liquid widely used as germicideand disinfectant in the sanitary and medical practice.Nevertheless, severe effects can not be ruled out. We presentthe case of a 47 year-old man with a hydatid cyst of the liverwho died in the surgical procedure in order to deactivate thecyst by using hydrogen peroxide at high pressure.A lethal massive oxygen gas embolism secondary to theuse of hydrogen peroxide was found in the necropsy. Theinvolvement of the hydrogen peroxide in the patogenesis ofthe case is reviewed (AU)

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: Clinical and pathological study of eight cases of localized amyloidosis of the seminal vesicles. Review of the literature. METHODS: Immunohistochemical and histochemical study in surgical specimens. RESULTS: Two of the eight cases studied for amyloidosis in seminal vesicles, were obtained from radical prostatectomy specimens; patients had prior androgen deprivation therapy for two months. Four cases were obtained from radical cistoprostatectomy specimens because of urothelial carcinoma and the last two cases were diagnosed by transrectal prostatic needle biopsy which including a portion of seminal vesicle. Amyloidosis of seminal the vesicle is permanganate-sensitive; A-Amyloid, laminin, amyloid P protein and collagen IV negative. CONCLUSION: Localized amyloidosis ot the seminal vesicle is not an unusual finding. The incidence increases with age. The histochemical and immunohistochemical features are different from other amyloid deposits.
