ABSTRACT

Congenital pseudarthrosis of the clavicle is a rare anomaly in which the clavicle is formed in utero in two separate segments. Clinically, there is a bump and a palpable discontinuity at the middle of the clavicle. There is no swelling or tenderness, nor disability. Radiologically, the medial ends of both clavicular segments are blunt and there is no interruption of cortical bone. The differential diagnosis includes birth fracture of the clavicle and craniocleidal dysostosis. The obstetrician should be aware of this condition as, if it is misdiagnosed, he may be wrongly accused of birth fracture.

ABSTRACT

Lethal osteogenesis imperfecta was diagnosed at 27 weeks amenorrea in one fetus of a bichorial twin pregnancy. Sonographic findings included: short-limb dwarfism, hypotrophy and hypoechoic bones. The affected fetus was so translucent that only the normal fetus could be seen on plain in utero radiography. The affected fetus died immediately after birth. Postmortem radiography and histology were typical of lethal osteogenesis imperfecta of type IIA. Aids to the etiological diagnosis of in utero dwarfism are presented. Sonographic features correlated with neonatal death are described.

ABSTRACT

A case of prenatal diagnosis of left ventricular false tendon is reported. The in utero echographic features of false tendon are described, together with their differential diagnosis. The management of neonates with false tendons is described.

ABSTRACT

A case of umbilical cord hematoma, following genetic amniocentesis, is reported. Spontaneous resorption of the hematoma was observed at sonography. A normal infant was born vaginally at term.

ABSTRACT

Single-scattered energy has been calculated for a water phantom, in a geometrical arrangement that approaches that of the dynamic spatial reconstructor. Recent data on the Rayleigh differential cross-sections of liquid water have been used. The ratio for single-scattered to transmitted radiation is found to be dependent upon incident energy: in the range 20 to 80 ke V, it varies from 0.32 to 0.16. The contribution of the Rayleigh effect to single scattering is of the order of 90% at 20 ke V and 50% at 80 ke V.
