ABSTRACT

The tissue oxygen concentration, the serum antioxidant system state and the serum malondialdehyde (MDA) concentration were studied in patients with hepatitis B. The good correlations were studied in patients with hepatitis B. The good correlations between MDA concentration in patients serum and the oxygen concentration in tissues (R-0.79), and the cytoplasmic enzymes activity (R-0.75 for lactate dehydrogenase; R-0.75 for alanine transferase) were found. On the other hand, it was shown an antioxidant activity decrease of ceruloplasmin-transferrin system in patients serum. It is proposed, that the tissue hypoxia and the decrease of the serum antioxidant activity are the general factors leading to the MDA accumulation in the serum of patients with hepatitis B.

ABSTRACT

A total of 75 patients with virus hepatitis B of medium gravity were examined for the effect of HBO on the clinical course of the disease and blood leukocyte reaction. This reaction was tested on the basis of a complex of rosette-forming and cytochemical tests. HBO was found to produce a favourable effect if used at the early stages of the treatment (the first week of hospitalization). The effect consisted in significant reduction of the rate of exacerbations and residual phenomena. HBO provoked a decrease in the content of T and B lymphocytes by the 10th session of the treatment. A close relationship was revealed between HBO efficacy and the initial level of functional metabolic activity of leukocytes. The use of HBO was always accompanied by the rise of that activity during the treatment. The use of HBO at later times of the treatment (weeks 4-5) did not produce any well-defined clinical effect. Thus, HBO (8-10 sessions, pressure 1.5 absolute atmosphere, exposure 45 min) may be indicated as a prophylactic measure in respect of an unfavourable disease course with regard to the patients' selection on the basis of a complex of cytochemical tests.

ABSTRACT

A decrease in the capacity of lymphocytes for rosette formation, accompanied by a rise in the leukocyte count, has been found in patients with the severe form of hepatitis non A, non B. Neutrophils in these patients have shown a tendency towards an increased rosette formation. All altered characteristics normalized by the period of convalescence. As noted in this investigation, a considerable increase in the leukocyte count, along with an increase in the number of active rosette-forming neutrophils and a decrease in the capacity of leukocytes for rosette formation, is an unfavorable sign predicting the possibility of acute hepatic encephalopathy.

ABSTRACT

The paper is concerned with an analysis of clinico-biochemical indices and 14 parameters of the plasmatic and platelet links of hemostasis in 29 patients with acute virus hepatitis of a varying degree of severity treated by hyperbaric oxygenation and in 40 controls. HBO made a modulating effect on most indices of hemocoagulation and fibrinolysis bringing them nearer to a certain standard which was optimum for a certain stage and degree of AVH. Probable mechanisms of the HBO effect on various indices of homeostasis in AVH and clinico-pathogenetic importance of the state of hemocoagulation against a background of HBO-therapy were discussed.

ABSTRACT

The work describes the results of an investigation of pathophysiological shifts and methods for their correction used in 204 patients with diffuse peritonitis. It is concerned with problems of diagnosis and therapy of protein, water-electrolyte disorders, acute respiratory insufficiency, "shock lung". Pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic properties of cephalosporins injected intravenously and intra-orally were studied. With antibiotics used as an indicator, the disturbances of processes of mixing and shunting the blood were revealed. The authors believe that patients with diffuse peritonitis should be subjected to intensive therapy under conditions of a reanimation department during 5-12 days.

ABSTRACT

The changes in the seeming and inner viscosity and fluidity of blood in 46 patients with acute myocardial infarction were studied during 15 days after the onset of the disease. For comparison, the same parameters were studied in 30 normal individuals and in 20 patients with cardiosclerosis. The studies were conducted with the aid of a rotational viscosimeter with a speed shift range from 8.8 to 140 sec.-1. The viscosity and fluidity of blood in patients with cardiosclerosis was found not to differ from those of normals. Acute myocardial infarction is accompanied by the development of extended intravascular coagulation that manifests itself most distinctly in cardiogenic shock. The extended intravascular coagulation manifests itself in a decreased blood viscosity observed either soon after the onset of the disease, or 4-5 and 11-15 days following a preceeding increase in blood viscosity.
