ABSTRACT

Hypertrichosis lanuginosa acquisita was observed in a female patient with stage IV malignant melanoma and also diffuse melanosis of the skin. The patient died within 2 months after the appearance of HL.

ABSTRACT

In a female patient suffering from linear morphea of long duration, we observed ossification and calcification of the affected tissue. There were no other abnormalities that might have been responsible for these symptoms.

ABSTRACT

We report on a 19-year-old girl with hepatosplenomegaly and possible hematological disease. We suspected Gaucher's disease on account of histological and biochemical evidence found in specimens from the liver, spleen, and bone marrow. 18 months later, pebbled skin developed on her neck and upper back. Histological examination revealed large amounts of mucous material between the collagen bundles deep in the dermis, which proved to be dermatan sulfate. The clinical and histological symptoms are characteristic for Hunter's disease.

ABSTRACT

We report on a 17-year-old girl having suffered from Jadassohn's anetoderma since five years. Administration of Plaquenil resulted in marked improvement: The inflammation disappeared, and there did not occur any new symptoms. The presence of IgA in the capillary endothelium implies an immunological process.

ABSTRACT

A 4-year-old boy with skin symptoms resembling verruca plana juvenile was observed. The light- and electron-microscopic picture showed the typical features of histiocytosis X (Letterer-Siwe syndrome). Beside the skin manifestations some less dense areas in the skull bones were found by X-ray examination. Vinblastine and prednisolone treatment for one year resulted in complete remission.

ABSTRACT

A 22-year-old woman had been suffering for 11 years with a REM syndrome. Her symptoms were provoked and aggravated by exposure to sunlight. The administration of hydroxychloroquine sulphate had a quick effect. The drug was given for 6 months, and the patient remained symptom-free even in summer, when sunbathing.

ABSTRACT

The ultrastructure of epidermis pretreated with 0,1 N sofium hydroxide, ether-ethanol mixture and 0,5 M sodium thioglycolate was studied. Sodium hydroxide dissolves the keratohyalin granules and the inter fibrillar material in the keratin. It has no effect on the epidermal and keratin fibers and on the marginal dense band of the horny cells. It "produces" a keratin pattern in the psoriatic horny layer. After sodium thioglycolate treatment the keratohyalin disappears, the epidermal and keratin fibers show a periodicity and the cementing material in the horny cells is more opaque. After lipid extraction the structure of keratohyalin becomes inhomogenous. The effect is somewhat similar to that of sodium thioglycolate but there is no periodicity in the horny layer. The intercellular contact layers of desmosomes as well as the Selby-Odland bodies disappear after each kind of treatment, The different effect of sodium thioglycolate on the horny layer and on the keratohyalin implies that the material of the keratohyalin and of the cementing substance are not identical.
