ABSTRACT

Linyphiidae is currently the second richest family of spiders in the order Araneae but is poorly known and studied in Brazil, particularly in the northern states. In this contribution we describe a new species of Exechopsis Millidge, 1991 from the State of Amazonas, based on both males and females. The male of Meionetaadami Millidge, 1991 is described for the first time. Mermessus conjunctus (Millidge, 1991), Novafrontina uncata (F. O. Pickard-Cambridge, 1902), Sphecozone fastibilis (Keyserling, 1886), Sphecozone ignigena (Keyserling, 1886) and Vesicapalpus simplex Millidge, 1991 are recorded for the first time from Amazonas. Sphecozone crassa (Millidge, 1991) are presented additional record from Amazonas.

ABSTRACT

Three species of Cryptachaea Archer, 1946 are described, two of them from Brazil: C. amazonas sp. nov. from Reserva Florestal Adolpho Ducke, Manaus, Amazonas, and C. maldonado sp. nov. from Base de Operações Geólogo Pedro de Moura, Porto Urucu, Urucu River, Coari, Amazonas, based only on males. A new association of male and female for Achaearanea hieroglyphica (Mello-Leitão, 1940) is proposed. The male from French Guiana, attributed to the last species, is considered a new species of Cryptachaea, C. ingijonathorum. The male of Achaearanea tingo Levi, 1963, is described for the first time. New records are given for A. trapezoidalis (Taczanowski, 1873).

ABSTRACT

Neopisinus gen. nov. is proposed on the type species Neopisinus fiapo sp. nov., based on male and female specimens from Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Neopisinus differs from all Spintharinae by having the male palp with an enormous trifid conductor with two pointed structures and the third one apically bifurcated and by the characteristic shape of the theridioid tegular apophyses with a terminal and a dorsal lobes. The female genitalia has the inconspicuous opening anteriorly on a transversal sclerotized slit and internally a tubular longitudinal median thickening, where the copulatory ducts run in their initial trajectory. From northern Brazil, Neopisinus urucu sp. nov. is described based on both sexes. Seven species are transferred from Episinus to Neopisinus: N. bigibbosus (O. P.-Cambridge, 1896), N. bruneoviridis (Mello-Leitão, 1948), N. cognatus (O. P.-Cambridge, 1893), N. gratiosus (Bryant, 1940), N. longipes (Keyserling, 1884), N. putus (O. P.-Cambridge, 1894) and N. recifensis (Levi, 1964). The male of N. longipes and the female of N. recifensis are described for the first time. New records and illustrations of N. bruneoviridis are provided.

Neopisinus gen. nov.

ABSTRACT

The Neotropical genus Psilocymbium Millidge, 1991 can be recognized by the presence of a non-flagelliform, rigid and spiral shaped embolus, the absence of a cymbial basal excavation on the palp (males), and by having prolonged spermathecae on the epigynum and strong pedipalp setae (females). In this paper Psilocymbium antonina sp. nov., is described based on male and female specimens from the state of Paraná, southern Brazil. Psilocymbium antonina sp. nov. is diagnosed by the following combination of characters: prominent tibial apophysis with gauged distal projection, acute dorsal cymbial apex and acute cymbial proximal region of the palp (male); fertilization ducts distant from each other and the coiled copulatory ducts of the female epigynum. The male of P. lineatum (Millidge, 1991) is described and recorded for the first time in the states of Paraná and Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.

ABSTRACT

The Neotropical genus of spider Eurymorion includes, until now, only two species: E. insigne (Millidge, 1991) and E. nobile (Millidge, 1991); both known only by males from the states of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo (Southeastern Brazil), respectively. The genus is diagnosed mainly by the male palp with a small paracymbium and by the prolonged and medially constricted abdomen. In this paper we describe and illustrate three news species: E. triunfo sp. nov. based on male and female specimens from the states of Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil) and La Paz (Bolivia), male palp has a rounded lamella characteristica with less projected tip and less developed base of the frontal cheliceral spiniform process, females have long spermatic ducts following the course of the lateral borders of genital opening; E. murici sp. nov. based on a male and a female from the state of Alagoas (Brazil), male palp has a striated border lamella characteristica with less projected tip, subtegulum more than half the length of the cymbium, tegular duct forming a non sinuous curve and large frontal cheliceral spiniform process, female epigynum atrium with rounded lateral borders, less developed dorsal plate and separated spermathecae; and E. mourai sp. nov. based on a male from Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil), male palp with less prominent lamella characteristica distal end, embolic division with only one distal projection, frontal cheliceral spiniform process larger and with slightly bifurcated tip. In addition, new illustrations based on the type material of the E. insigne and E. nobile are provided and the female of E. nobile is described and illustrated for the first time.

New synonymies proposed: Chrysso ribeirao Levi, 1962 and C. caraca Levi, 1962 with Chrysso arops Levi, 1962; Cryptachaea diamantina (Levi, 1963) with C. hirta (Taczanowski, 1873) and Cryptachaea maxima (Keyserling, 1884) with C. altiventer (Keyserling, 1884). Theridion altum Levi, 1963 is considered as a new synonym of Theridion soaresi Levi, 1963. Theridion melanosternum Mello-Leitão, 1947 is synonymized with Oedothorax bisignatus Mello-Leitão, 1944 and this species is removed from the synonymy with Theridion calcynatum Holmberg, 1876 and transferred to Theridion Walckenaer, 1805.
