ABSTRACT

A new species of caddisfly, Itauara marcellina sp. nov., is described and illustrated from Roraima state in northern Brazil. This new species is characterized by features of the male genitalia. The dorsolateral processes of tergum X, in dorsal view, are horn-like and the phallicata has a medial pair of membranous, rounded, lateral flanges projecting posteroventrad. Protoptila ctenacantha Flint 1974 is recorded for the first time from Brazil. Protoptila condylifera Flint 1971, Protoptila flexispina Flint 1971, Protoptila simplex Flint 1971, and Protoptila trispicata Flint 1971 are recorded for the first time from Roraima state, Brazil.

ABSTRACT

Two new species of Helicopsychidae from Pará State, Brazil, are described and illustrated: male of Helicopsyche (Feropsyche) carajas n. sp. is characterized by segment X having 8 pairs of subequal megasetae distributed in a pair of longitudinal rows; the primary branch of each gonocoxite, in lateral view, with its basal half nearly as broad as its median part and parallel-sided, its posterior apex directed slightly ventrad and slender and strongly pointed; the dorsal lobes of the endotheca posteriorly protruding, and the lateral lobes of the endotheca well developed. Helicopsyche (Feropsyche) inflata n. sp. is characterized by the hind wings each having very long fringes along the anal border; the primary branch of each gonocoxite having a pointed apex in lateral view and its basimesal lobe being triangular in lateral and ventral views and bearing eight megasetae; and the dorsal lobe of the endotheca being very well developed in lateral view.

ABSTRACT

We conducted an inventory of the Trichoptera fauna of Serra do Tepequém, Amajari municipality (county), Roraima state, Brazil. Adult caddisflies were collected with Pennsylvania and Malaise traps operated beside three 2nd-order streams near the summit of Serra do Tepequém. We identified 27 Trichoptera species (including two new species), all representing new records for the state of Roraima, five of these species are recorded for the first time in Brazil. In this study, two new species are described: Marilia mahedae sp. nov. differs from all other species of the genus by the following combination of characters: Segment X subquadrate in dorsal view, bipartite, membranous mesally, with short apical V-shaped incision; preanal appendages wide at base in lateral view; endotheca with an acute subapicoventral projection, directed anterad in lateral view; phallotheca very short. Polyplectropus tepequemensis sp. nov. differs from all other species of the genus by the following combination of characters: Posterior margin of sternum IX nearly straight; slightly sclerotized intermediate appendages broad in the basal 2/3 and abruptly slender apically; two phallic ducts, each with an endothecal spine. With this inventory the number of Trichoptera species for Roraima state increased from 37 to 65.

Ulmeritoides aurantifrons sp. nov. differs from all other species of the genus by the following combination of characters: mesonotum with a yellow spot in the apical and medial portions of the mesoscutal suture and a yellowish spot between the apex of the medioscutum and the posterior scutal protuberances, scutellum dark brown with base and apex yellow; forewing hyaline with two cross veins basal to bulla; penis lobes with a ventral groove, apically rounded. Ulmeritoides mirr sp. nov. differs from all other species of the genus by the following combination of characters: mesonotum with mesoscutal suture yellow; apex of the posterior scutal protuberance with a yellow transversal line; forewing hyaline, costal and subcostal areas tinged with light brown; penis lobes with a ventral groove, apically rounded.
