ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: Major depressive disorder (MDD) is the second-most prevalent mental health condition in Vietnam. This study aims to validate the Vietnamese versions of the self-reported and clinician-rated Quick Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology (QIDS-SR and QIDS-C, respectively) and the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), and to assess the correlations between the QIDS-SR, QIDS-C, and PHQ-9. METHODS: 506 participants with MDD (mean age, 46.3 years; 55.5% women) were assessed using the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-5. The internal consistency, diagnostic efficiency, and concurrent validity of the Vietnamese versions of QIDS-SR, QIDS-C, and PHQ-9 were determined using the Cronbach's alpha, receiver operating characteristic curve, and Pearson correlation coefficient, respectively. RESULTS: The Vietnamese versions of QIDS-SR, QIDS-C, and PHQ-9 demonstrated acceptable validity, with an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.901, 0.967, and 0.864, respectively. Sensitivity and specificity, respectively, were 87.8% and 77.8% for QIDS-SR and 97.6% and 86.2% for QIDS-C at the cut-off score of 6, and were 82.9% and 70.1% for PHQ-9 at the cut-off score of 4. Cronbach's alphas for QIDS-SR, QIDS-C, and PHQ-9 were 0.709, 0.813, and 0.745, respectively. The PHQ-9 highly correlated with the QIDS-SR (r = 0.77, p < 0.001) and the QIDS-C (r = 0.75, p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: The Vietnamese versions of the QIDS-SR, QIDS-C, and PHQ-9 are valid and reliable tools for screening of MDD in primary healthcare settings.

ABSTRACT

AIM: To assess the long-term outcomes of device-based closure of atrial septal defects (ASDs) with no sizing balloon. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Two hundred and eighty-one consecutive patients (mean age 34±13 years, 178 women) underwent intracardiac echocardiography (ICE)-aided transcatheter closure of secundum ASDs over a 15-year period (September 2002 to March 2017). Sizing of the ASDs was calculated under ICE guidance (UltraICE, EP Technologies, Boston Scientific Corporation, San Jose, CA, USA) using the concept of "supportive rim" for ASDs without the aid of a sizing balloon. Follow-up was conducted by transoesophageal and transthoracic echocardiography. RESULTS: The procedure was carried out successfully in all patients with 0% related mortality and 5.7% procedural complications. The Amplatzer ASD Occluder was implanted in 251 patients (89.3%, mean size 26.4±10.2 mm) whereas the Gore Cardioform was used in 30 patients (10.6%). Over 10.3±3 years of follow-up (range 1-15) 100% of patients were alive. The complete occlusion rate was 97.8%. No aortic or atrial free wall erosions, device thrombosis, or device frame fractures were detected during the follow-up period. CONCLUSION: The present study suggested that ICE-guided closure of ASDs with current devices without sizing balloons is safe and effective with very low procedural and late complications even in the very long-term follow-up.

ABSTRACT

We investigated the reaction dynamics of O((1)D) towards hydrogen atoms of two types in HCOOH. The reaction was initiated on irradiation of a flowing mixture of O3 and HCOOD or DCOOH at 248 nm. The relative vibration-rotational populations of OH and OD (1 ≦ v ≦ 4, J ≤ 15) states were determined from time-resolved IR emission recorded with a step-scan Fourier-transform spectrometer. In the reaction of O((1)D) + HCOOD, the rotational distribution of product OH is nearly Boltzmann, whereas that of OD is bimodal. The product ratio [OH]/[OD] is 0.16 ± 0.05. In the reaction of O((1)D) + DCOOH, the rotational distribution of product OH is bimodal, but the observed OD lines are too weak to provide reliable intensities. The three observed OH/OD channels agree with three major channels of production predicted with quantum-chemical calculations. In the case of O((1)D) + HCOOD, two intermediates HOC(O)OD and HC(O)OOD are produced in the initial C-H and O-D insertion, respectively. The former undergoes further decomposition of the newly formed OH or the original OD, whereas the latter produces OD via direct decomposition. Decomposition of HOC(O)OD produced OH and OD with similar vibrational excitation, indicating efficient intramolecular vibrational relaxation, IVR. Decomposition of HC(O)OOD produced OD with greater rotational excitation. The predicted [OH]/[OD] ratio is 0.20 for O((1)D) + HCOOD and 4.08 for O((1)D) + DCOOH; the former agrees satisfactorily with experiments. We also observed the v3 emission from the product CO2. This emission band is deconvoluted into two components corresponding to internal energies E = 317 and 96 kJ mol(-1) of CO2, predicted to be produced via direct dehydration of HOC(O)OH and secondary decomposition of HC(O)O that was produced via decomposition of HC(O)OOH, respectively.
