ABSTRACT

Using the taxonogenomics method, we describe Gracilibacillus phocaeensis strain Marseille-P3801, a new species previously isolated from a salty stool of a 20-year-old man from N'Diop, Senegal. It is a Gram-positive, aerobic and motile bacillus. The major fatty acids are C15:0-anteiso (59%), C16:0 (16%) and C17:0-anteiso (11%). Strain Marseille-P3801 exhibits a 98.45% sequence similarity with Gracilibacillus thailandensis strain TP2-8, the phylogenetically closest species. Its genome is 4.66 Mb with 39.6 mol% G + C content.

ABSTRACT

Strain SIT17T was isolated from the stool of a healthy 13-month-old Senegalese boy. It is a Gram-positive, anaerobic, rod-shaped, non-spore-forming and mobile bacterium. It exhibited 92.74% 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity with the Brassicibacter thermophilus strain Cel2f, the phylogenetically most closely related species. Its genome is about 2.87 Mb long with 27.39 mol% G + C content. We provide more details of Senegalia massiliensis strain SIT17T (= CSURP2130 = DSM 103071), the creation of which was previously announced.

ABSTRACT

Massilistercora timonensis gen. nov., sp. nov. strain Marseille-P3756T is a new species of the phylum Firmicutes; it was isolated from the human gut microbiota and has a genome of 2 769 591 bp (51.2% G + C). The closest species based on 16S rRNA sequence was Merdimonas faecis strain BR31 with 95.2 % sequence similarity. Considering phenotypic features and comparative genome studies, we proposed the strain Marseille-P3756T as the type strain of Massilistercora timonensis sp. nov., a new species within the genus Massilistercora.

ABSTRACT

Anaerococcus marasmi sp. nov. strain Marseille-P3557T is a new species isolated from a stool of a Nigerian child with marasmus. The genome of Marseille-P3557T was 2 130 060 bp long (35.4% G + C content). The closest species based on 16S ribosomal RNA sequence was Anaerococcus prevotii strain 20548, with 97.6% sequence similarity. Considering phenotypic features and comparative genome studies, we propose the strain Marseille-P3557T as the type strain of Anaerococcus marasmi sp. nov., a new species within the genus Anaerococcus.

ABSTRACT

Using the taxono-genomics concept, we describe here a strictly anaerobic Gram-positive bacillus. This strain was isolated from the stool sample of a 50-year-old healthy Bedouin woman. The 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis and the whole-genome sequencing showed that this isolate belonged to the genus Gordonibacter in the family Eggerthellaceae. Based on these criteria, we propose the creation of Gordonibacter massiliensis sp. nov., strain Marseille-P2775T (= CSUR P2775).

Massilimicrobiota timonensis gen. nov., sp. nov. strain Marseille-P2264 is a new species from Firmicutes phylum isolated from the human gut. Its genome was 2,849,574 bp-long with a 31.8% G+C content. The closest species based on 16S rRNA sequence was Longibaculum muris with 95.6% sequence similarity. Considering phenotypic features, 16S rRNA sequence and comparative genome studies, we proposed Marseille-P2264 as the type strain of Massilimicrobiota timonensis gen. nov., sp. nov.

ABSTRACT

Strain Marseille-P2645T was isolated in a colon sample from a Frenchwoman who underwent a colonoscopy. Bacterial cells were Gram negative, non-spore forming, mobile and strictly anaerobic. The genome of strain Marseille-P2645T is 3 950 441 bp long and contains 3374 protein-coding genes. The DNA G+C content is of 51.66 mol%. Strain Marseille-P2645T exhibited a 92.9% sequence similarity with Bacteroides helcogenes strain P36-108T (GenBank accession no. CP002352), the phylogenetically closest species with standing in nomenclature. Strain Marseille-P2645T (= CSUR P2645 = DSM 103034) is therefore a candidate as a type species of a new genus belonging to the Bacteroidaceae family, for which the name of Mediterranea massiliensis gen. nov., sp. nov., is proposed.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: Describe the epidemiology, diagnosis and treatment of vesicovaginal fistula (VVF). PATIENTS AND METHODS: We conducted a retrospective descriptive study of all cases of VVF secondary to hysterectomy. The following parameters were studied: age, parity, indication for hysterectomy, risk factors, the consultation period, the anatomical type of VVF, the paraclinical, the surgical approach and results of the cure. RESULTS: Fourteen cases were identified over 10 years. All hysterectomies were performed by laparotomia. The average age of patients was 54.3±13 years. Hysterectomy was performed in view of a uterine leiomyoma in eight cases, a cancer of the cervix in four cases, a menometrorrhagia in one case and a choriocarcinoma in one case. Four patients had received neoadjuvant radiotherapy. The mean time from injury was 13.5±18 months. Examination under valve was allowed to find 11 VVF type 1 and three type 2 VVF. IVU was normal in seven patients and allowed to find an ureterohydronephrose stage III in one patient. VVF was addressed by high in ten cases including 5 by transperitoneovaginale and 5 by transvesical pure. The postoperative course was uneventful in 11 patients (78%) but marked by vesicocutaneous fistula, parietal suppuration and one failure. CONCLUSION: In this short series of post-hysterectomy VVF treated by laparotomia, we observed a rate of cure satisfying in spite of an important psychosocial morbidity.

ABSTRACT

High prevalence of chronic orofacial pain in women and its relationship with ovarian states suggest that ovarian hormones may be involved in the control of orofacial nociception. Since the interaction between ovarian hormones and nociception seems more evident in the orofacial area than in many other parts of the body, a possible site specificity of an ovarian hormone effect on nociception was tested in rats. Two nociceptive tests were applied to three groups of male rats (n=46) and three groups of female rats (n=46), that were gonadectomised (n=17), sham-operated (n=15) or intact (n=14). Each rat in each group received a local subcutaneous injection of formalin in the upper lip and in the hindpaw. Upper lip injection resulted in an increased occurrence of upper lip rubbing for more than 45 min and hindpaw injection resulted in an increased occurrence of hindpaw licking for about 1h. The duration of the nociceptive behaviours was measured at 3 months after surgery. No significant difference was found between intact and sham-operated animals. A significant increase (54%) in the upper lip rubbing but not the hindpaw licking was observed in gonadectomised females. No difference was observed in castrated males for upper lip rubbing, but a tendency towards an increased duration (102%) of hindpaw licking was noted. The depletion in gonadal hormones was confirmed 3 months after gonadectomy and after the sacrifice of the animals, by the observed decline in the bone mineral density measured on the femur of 40 rats belonging to the six groups. A role of ovarian hormones was also suggested after immunostaining of oestrogen receptors in the lamina II of Caudalis subnucleus of the trigeminal sensory complex and cervical (C1-C2) spinal dorsal horn. The number of cells expressing oestrogen receptors displayed a small (13.6%) but significant (P=0.037) increase in ovariectomised compared with sham-operated rats. These results suggest that the lack of ovarian hormones induces a site-specific increase in the sensitivity to orofacial nociceptive stimulation, and that an up-regulation of oestrogen receptors in the Caudalis subnucleus and C1-C2 dorsal horn may be one of the factors involved in this effect.
