ABSTRACT

An electronic nose has been used to classify blockmilk products subjected to various heating processes based on their volatile composition. Multivariate analyses of electronic nose and GC/MS data are highly comparable with respect to relative changes in aroma profile going from raw to final product. Predictive properties of various neural networks based on the raw sensor output were moderate to good.

ABSTRACT

The successful treatment of a brachial artery occlusion caused by a chronic embolizing aneurysm of the anterior humeral circumflex artery is described. In the case of embolizing axillary artery aneurysms, the best therapy is resection of the aneurysm followed by distal thromboembolectomy and vascular reconstruction by a saphenous vein segment. Prosthetic material should be reserved as a second choice. In this particular case successful therapy consisted of ligation of the anterior humeral circumflex artery proximal and distal to the aneurysm, resection of the aneurysm, and transcubital thromboembolectomy.

ABSTRACT

The authors present a series of 50 patients for which a laparotomy was performed following a lesion of the intestines due to radiotherapy. Resection and anastomosis is indicated only in localized lesions in patients with a good general state. In more extensive bowel lesions it is safer to perform by-pass procedures as the morbidity and postoperative mortality are lower. However, by-pass is inadequate to stop profuse haemorrhages: in such cases resection is mandatory.
