ABSTRACT

The presented case describes the difficulties of diagnosis of the breast microglandular adenosis (MGA), taken by clinicians for a malignant process due to the nature of growth and large size. Criteria for histological and immunohistochemical diagnosis and differentiation of MGA with malignant neoplasms, in particular, with tubular breast carcinoma, are presented. Taking into account the rarity of the pathology and the absence of described cases in the Russian-language literature, the observation is of interest to pathologists and clinicians.

ABSTRACT

The impact of a 4-week course of lovastatin (mevacor) therapy on platelet function was examined in 26 patients with coronary heart disease concurrent with hypercholesterolemia (the baseline plasma cholesterol level was 250 mg% or more). The agent was given in a daily dose of 20-40 mg. The agent in this dose was found to have no action on the thromboxane-prostacyclin balance in plasma, on the degree of ADP-induced aggregation and lipid peroxidation in platelets, phospholipid composition and levels of ester-bound cholesterol in platelet membranes. Free cholesterol tended to increase at the end of the 4th week of treatment. Despite the effective reduction of plasma levels of total and LDL cholesterols whose action on platelets is well known, there was no estimated decrease in the activity of platelets during lovastatin therapy.

ABSTRACT

The activity of potassium, sodium, magnesium and Ca-ATP-ase of the erythrocytic membrane, index of erythrocyte deformability, changes of the hemodynamics and some cardiac function during bicycle ergometry [correction of veloergometry] tests before and after a course of laser irradiation of the blood were studied in 36 patients with exertion stenocardia. It was established that laser therapy is accompanied by increase of the activity of ATP-ase, index of erythrocyte deformability and positive changes of the cardial function. The possibility is discussed of improving the cardiac function under the effect of laser irradiation as a result of optimization of the structural-functional organization of the cellular membrane.
