ABSTRACT

Forty patients with centrofacial lentiginosis have been studied. A greater than normal number of bone abnormalities, malformations due to dysraphia, endocrine dysfunctions, and neurological diseases, but not psychiatric impairment, were found.

ABSTRACT

In a group of 120 mental patients, the authors found obvious camptodactyly in 65 patients (46%), especially in psychopaths, neurotics and related conditions. Clinical, psychological, radiological and laboratory investigations were carried out in 25 of these cases. The disease was accompanied by disorders of glucose metabolism, endocrine abnormalities, EEG and bone abnormalities together with arthrosis. The mental disorder, causing an inability to return to work, attracted our attention to the series of abnormalities found in these subjects investigated.

ABSTRACT

A marked camptodactylia, or a mere suggestion of it, was found in 91 (56; 5%) of 161 mentally ill patients, particularly in psychopaths, neurotics and patients in a neurotic state. Clinical, psychological, radiological and biological investigations were carried out in 33 patients. The camptodactylia was frequently associated with distrubances of the carbohydrate metabolism, especially with spontaneous hypoglycemias, as well as arthrotic skeletal changes. The mental disease, which had resulted in incapacity for work, had made us aware of the diversity of the anomalies in our patients.

ABSTRACT

The authors present the results of an investigation on 39 cases of centrofacial lentiginosis. Eleven patients urged to be examined because of their alarming health condition, and 28 cases were found out following an inquiry within some collectivities. With centrofacial lentiginosis the cutaneous hereditary polydysplasia (characterized by typical lentigines), the dysraphic state and neuro-psychic troubles are usual and awaken the interest of the radiologist due to the frequency of various dysmorphoses, growth disturbances and a trend for arthrosis. The radiologist has to pay a due attention to these aspects representing as many manifestations of a disease of a hereditary-family type since a possible centrofacial lentiginosis also means a possible disabling potential associated with education and vocational training problems.
