ABSTRACT

This paper discusses the influence of the structure of copolymers based on glycidyl methacrylate and alkyl methacrylates with C6-C18 hydrocarbon side groups on the wettability and sorption properties of surface-modified chitosan aerogels. The grafting of copolymers onto the surface of aerogels was confirmed by elemental analysis, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. As a result of the modification, with an increase in the amount of the hydrocarbon substituent alkyl methacrylate, the surface of the resulting materials became hydrophobic with contact angles in the range of 146-157°. At the same time, the water absorption of the aerogels decreased by a factor of 30 compared to that for unmodified aerogels, while the sorption capacity for light oil, diesel fuel, and synthetic motor oil remained at the level of more than 30 g/g. Chitosan aerogels with grafted copolymers based on glycidyl methacrylate and alkyl methacrylates retain biodegradation capacity; however, compared to unmodified chitosan, this process has an induction period.

ABSTRACT

This study proposes to use reactive copolymers based on glycidyl methacrylate and fluoroalkyl methacrylates with a low fluorine content in the monomer unit as agents to reduce the surface free energy (SFE). This work reveals the effect of the structure and composition of copolymers on the SFE and water-repellent properties of these coatings. On a smooth surface, coatings based on copolymers of glycidyl methacrylate and fluoroalkyl methacrylates with fluorine atoms in the monomer unit ranging from three to seven are characterized by SFE values in the range from 25 to 13 mN/m, which is comparable to the values for polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes and perfluoroalkyl acrylates. On textured aluminum surfaces, the obtained coatings provide time-stable superhydrophobic properties with contact angles up to 170° and sliding angles up to 2°. The possibility of using copolymers based on glycidyl methacrylate and fluoroalkyl methacrylates for the creation of self-cleaning polymer coatings is shown.

ABSTRACT

N-heteroaryl substituted adamantane-containing amines are of substantial interest for their perspective antiviral and psychotherapeutic activities. Chlorine atom at alpha-position of N-heterocycles has been substituted by the amino group using convenient nucleophilic substitution reactions with a series of adamantylalkylamines. The prototropic equilibrium in these compounds was studied using NMR spectroscopy. The introduction of the second amino substituent in 4-amino-6-chloropyrimidine, 2-amino-chloropyrazine, and 1-amino-3-chloroisoquinoline was achieved using Pd(0) catalysis.

ABSTRACT

Tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) belonging to Flavivirus genus causes severe infection in humans. The search for therapeutically relevant compounds targeting TBEV requires the exploration of novel chemotypes. A versatile synthesis of previously unknown 4-aminopyrimidines and 4-aminopyrimidine N-oxides based on a fluorosubstituted heterocyclic core is described. A representative series of 4-aminotetrahydroquinazoline derivatives, containing aliphatic and aromatic substituents as well as the adamantane framework, was obtained and their activity against tick-borne encephalitis virus reproduction was studied. Nine compounds were found to inhibit TBEV entry into the host cells. A bulky hydrophobic adamantyl group was identified to be important for the antiviral activity. The developed synthetic route allowed an easy access to a consistent compound library for further structure-activity relationship studies.

ABSTRACT

Pd-catalyzed amination of isomeric 2,6-, 2,8-, 4,8- and 4,7-dichloroquinolines was studied using adamantane-containing amines in which substituents at the nitrogen atom differ in bulkiness. The selectivity of the amination of 2,6-dichloroquinoline was very low, substantially better results were obtained with 2,8-dichloroquinoline, and 4,8- and 4,7-dichloroquinolines provided the best yields of the amination products. Diamination of 4,8- and 4,7-dichloroquinolines was carried out with two amines which differ strongly in the bulkiness of the alkyl group. In the majority of cases BINAP ligand was successfully applied, however, it had to be replaced with DavePhos in certain reactions when using the most sterically hindered amine as well as for the diamination reactions.

ABSTRACT

A series of dihydro-alkylthio-benzyl-oxopyrimidines (S-DABOs) bearing a 2-aryl-2-oxoethylsulfanyl chain at pyrimidine C2, an alkyl group at C5, and a 2,6-dichloro-, 2-chloro-6-fluoro-, and 2,6-difluoro-benzyl substitution at C6 (oxophenethyl- S-DABOs, 6-8) is here described. The new compounds showed low micromolar to low nanomolar (in one case subnanomolar) inhibitory activity against wt HIV-1. Against clinically relevant HIV-1 mutants (K103N, Y181C, and Y188L) as well as in enzyme (wt and K103N, Y181I, and L100I mutated RTs) assays, compounds carrying an ethyl/ iso-propyl group at C5 and a 2,6-dichloro-/2-chloro-6-fluoro-benzyl moiety at C6 were the most potent derivatives, also characterized by low fold resistance ratio. Interestingly, the structure-activity relationship (SAR) data drawn from this DABO series are more related to HEPT than to DABO derivatives. These findings were at least in part rationalized by the description of a fair superimposition between the 6-8 and TNK-651 (a HEPT analogue) binding modes in both WT and Y181C RTs.
