ABSTRACT
In the 19th century the chemical reagents were used stronger to research the anorganic and organic substances. The reagents were used also to test the drugs. The first list of reagents in the Pharmacopoea Borussica IV (1827) was simultaneous the first list of in vitro diagnostics by the physician S. G. Vogel in Rostock. In 1846 the pharmacist J. G. B. Sthamer founded the Pathological Chemical Institute in Rostock. In the paper is given a description of the activity and importance of Sthamer in this institute.
