ABSTRACT

Immunoelectrophoresis was used to measure fibronectin content in blood plasma of 111 children with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus and in 20 normal children. In patients with diabetes mellitus, the content of plasma fibronectin turned out to be higher depending on the disease standing, the presence of microangiopathies, and status of compensation. It has been noted that fibronectin was detectable in urine in diabetic angionephropathy.

ABSTRACT

A study was made of the level of fibronectin in 42 pediatric patients with insulin dependent diabetes mellitus. Blood plasma fibronectin was determined by an immunoturbidometric method. A raised concentration of fibronectin was established in patients with a period of disease over 5 yrs., in decompensation of 3rd degree, and the presence of microangiopathies.

ABSTRACT

The blood serum, liver, cerebral and pancreatic tissues of 250 rats aged 1 to 1.5 mos. were investigated. Alloxan diabetes caused profound changes in the lipid composition of various tissues, the most noticeable ones in the pancreas. Of all easily assimilable carbohydrates used as admixtures to a common ration fructose followed by xylite and sorbitol produced the most unfavorable effect on lipid metabolism. The best results were obtained by adding up glucose.

ABSTRACT

The influence of readily available carbohydrates (sugar, xylitol and sorbitol) on the metabolic processes was studied in 80 children with diabetes mellitus. It was found that even low doses (20 g) of sorbitol and xylitol produced an unfavourable effect on the lipid metabolism and liver function. It is recommended that low doses (20 g) of sugar be included into the diet for children with diabetes mellitus.

ABSTRACT

A procedure for running sessions of hyperbaric oxygenation in the treatment of children suffering from diabetes mellitus, was developed. A high efficacy of the method was established, particularly for such complications as angiopathy, polyneuritides, trophic changes of tissues.

ABSTRACT

As a result of the examination of 14500 children, living in the Rostov Region, data have been obtained, characterizing the level and nature of endocrine disturbance in rural children, being evaluated from such aspects as the individual physical and sexual development. Endocrine disease in the rural children (116.2 +/- 3.2%) does not exceed these abnormalities observed among the town children. The prevalence of endocrine diseases increases from 90.3 +/- 5.1% in the children, ranging in age from birth to 7 years old, to 143.2 +/- 5.3% in the schoolchildren. Girls are more often developing obesity (t = 4.2) and endocrine abnormalities (t = 4.6), whereas boys are suffering from delay of the growth (t = 3.5) and sexual maturation. The standard glucose tolerance test, performed in the children at a high risk of diabetes mellitus (with aggravated heredity in regard to diabetes mellitus and obesity of the II, III and IV stages) has revealed intolerance in 59% of the children, of whom 2.2% had diabetic type curves. Based on the data on endocrine abnormalities, a mode of the organization structure for the children's endocrinological service was developed.

ABSTRACT

Opposing changes were discovered in the liver and blood of rats aged 1-1 1/2 months with alloxan diabetes as regards the content of adenine, xanthine plus guanine, uric acid and the activity of adenine-, adenosine-, guanine deaminase and 5'-nucleotidase. The ratio of the activity of adenosine deaminase to that of 5'-nucleotidase correlating with the level of glycemia might be the most informative test in the diagnosis of the depth of the discovered metabolic disorders in alloxan diabetes.
