ABSTRACT

Oscillating reactions are among the most intriguing phenomena in chemistry, but many questions on their mechanisms still remain unanswered, due to their intrinsic complexity and to the low sensitivity of the most common spectroscopic techniques toward the reaction brominated species. In this work, we investigate the cerium ion-catalyzed Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) oscillating reaction by means of time-resolved X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS), in combination with UV-vis spectroscopy and unsupervised machine learning, multivariate curve resolution, and kinetic analyses. Altogether, we provide new insights into the collective oscillatory behavior of the key brominated species involved in the classical BZ reaction and measure previously unreported oscillations in their concentrations through Br K-edge XAS, while simultaneously tracking the oscillatory Ce4+-to-Ce3+ transformation by coupling XAS with UV-vis spectroscopy. Our work evidences the potential of the XAS technique to investigate the mechanisms of oscillatory chemical systems whose species are often not detectable with conventional experimental methods.

ABSTRACT

Lynch syndrome (LS) is the most frequent cancer predisposition syndrome affecting the colon and rectum. A pathogenic variant (PV) disrupting one of the mismatch repair (MMR) genes is responsible for the disease. The spectrum of tumors in LS is heterogeneous and includes cancer of the colon and rectum (CRC), endometrium, ovaries, stomach, small bowel, urinary tract, bladder, pancreas, and skin. Knowledge of the phenotypic variation of patients with LS, the type and frequency of PVs, and cascade testing studies in the Latin American population is limited. The present study aims to recognize the PVs in MMR genes, describe the phenotype in Mexican-Mestizo patients and their relatives, and identify the acceptance rate of cascade testing of relatives at risk. We included 40 carriers of a MMR gene PV and 142 relatives that developed a LS-related neoplasm. Patients' clinical data, number, and type of malignancies were obtained from their medical records. Amsterdam I-II, Bethesda criteria, and PREMM5® predictive model score were estimated. Available immunohistochemistry (IHC) reports were analyzed. Relatives at risk were determined from index cases pedigrees. The distribution of MMR gene mutations among 40 probands was: MLH1 (67.5 %), MSH2 (22.5 %), MSH6 (7.5 %), and PMS2 (2.5 %). Out of the 182 LS cases, 58 % exhibited the LS phenotype before age 50. The most common tumor was CRC, followed by endometrial cancer in women and gastric cancer in males. We found a 90.0 % concordance between the IHC and germline PV. The most frequent PV in our sample was MLH1 c.676C > T, occurring in 1/6 index cases. All probands disclosed their molecular test result to their family. Out of the 451 asymptomatic relatives at risk, 28.2 % underwent germline testing. Our results highlight the importance of conducting germline genetic studies in LS since it allows the establishment of appropriate cancer screening, risk-reducing measures, and genetic cascade testing among relatives at risk. Interestingly, we observed a significantly higher prevalence of the c.676C > T variant in MLH1, probably a singular characteristic of the Mexican-Mestizo population. New strategies to facilitate accurate communication between index cases and relatives should be implemented to improve the cascade testing acceptance rate.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic prompted varied policy responses globally, with Latin America facing unique challenges. A detailed examination of these policies' impacts on health systems is crucial, particularly in Bolivia, where information about policy implementation and outcomes is limited. OBJECTIVE: To describe the COVID-19 testing trends and evaluate the effects of quarantine measures on these trends in Cochabamba, Bolivia. METHODS: Utilizing COVID-19 testing data from the Cochabamba Department Health Service for the 2020-2022 period. Stratified testing rates in the health system sectors were first estimated followed by an interrupted time series analysis using a quasi-Poisson regression model for assessing the quarantine effects on the mitigation of cases during surge periods. RESULTS: The public sector reported the larger percentage of tests (65%), followed by the private sector (23%) with almost double as many tests as the public-social security sector (11%). In the time series analysis, a correlation between the implementation of quarantine policies and a decrease in the slope of positive rates of COVID-19 cases was observed compared to periods without or with reduced quarantine policies. CONCLUSION: This research underscores the local health system disparities and the effectiveness of stringent quarantine measures in curbing COVID-19 transmission in the Cochabamba region. The findings stress the importance of the measures' intensity and duration, providing valuable lessons for Bolivia and beyond. As the global community learns from the pandemic, these insights are critical for shaping resilient and effective health policy responses.

ABSTRACT

Numerous countries and regions have embraced implementing a separate sewer system, segregating sanitary and storm sewers into distinct systems. However, the functionality of these systems often needs to improve due to irregular interconnections, resulting in a mixed and malfunctioning system. Sewage collection is crucial for residential sanitation, but untreated collection significantly contributes to environmental degradation. Analyzing the simultaneous operation of both systems becomes vital for effective management. Using mathematical tools for precise and unified diagnosis and prognosis becomes imperative. However, municipal professionals and companies need more tools specifically designed to evaluate these systems in a unified way, mapping all the hydraulic connections observed in practice. This study proposes a unified simulation method for stormwater and sanitary sewer urban systems, addressing real-world scenarios and potential interferences. The primary goal is to develop a simulation method for both systems, considering system interconnections and urban layouts, involving hydrodynamic and water quality simulations. The practical application of this method, the Multilayer Hydrodynamic Simulation Method (MODCEL-MHUS), successfully identifies issues in urban water networks and suggests solutions, making it a valuable tool for urban water management and environmental engineering professionals.

ABSTRACT

Pfaffia glomerata (Spreng.) Pedersen has among its main bioactive compounds saponins, with the phytoestroid ß-ecdysone as its chemical marker. In this study, pressurized liquid extraction (PLE), a green extraction technique used to obtain bioactive compounds from plants, was employed to extract beta-ecdysone from P. glomerata leaves, stems, and roots. The 22 factorial design was used with the variables temperature (333 K and 353 K) and flow rate (1.5 and 2 mL min-1), pressure (300 Bar), time (60 min), and solvent [ethanol and distilled water (70:30 (v/v)] were kept constant for all parts of the plant. The results of experimental responses demonstrated that the factors temperature and flow rate significantly interfere with the yields of leaf (0.499%), root (0.65%) and stem (0.764%) extracts. The latter presented presents the highest yield compared to the other parts of the plant. HPLC results showed the presence of beta-ecdysone in all parts of the plant with concentrations of ß-ecdysone 86.82, 76.53 and 195.86 mg L-1 to leaf, root and stem, respectively. FT Raman results exhibited typical peaks of beta-ecdysone, such as 3310 cm-1, 1654 cm-1, and 1073 cm-1 for all plant parts. Another interesting result was the presence of the peak at 1460 cm-1 in the PLE root extract can be associated with selenium. This foundational knowledge confirms that the PLE extraction process was efficient in obtaining the chemical marker of Pfaffia glomerata in all plant parts.

ABSTRACT

The solution-state fluxional behavior of bullvalene has fascinated physical organic and supramolecular chemists alike. Little effort, however, has been put into investigating bullvalene applications in bulk, partially due to difficulties in characterizing such dynamic systems. To address this knowledge gap, we herein probe whether bullvalene Hardy-Cope rearrangements can be mechanically perturbed in bulk polymer networks. We use dynamic mechanical analysis to demonstrate that the activation barrier to the glass transition process is significantly elevated for bullvalene-containing materials relative to "static" control networks. Furthermore, bullvalene rearrangements can be mechanically perturbed at low temperatures in the glassy region; such behavior facilitates energy dissipation (i.e., increased hysteresis energy) and polymer chain alignment to stiffen the material (i.e., increased Young's modulus) under load. Computational simulations corroborate our work that showcases bullvalene as a reversible "low-force" covalent mechanophore in the modulation of viscoelastic behavior.

ABSTRACT

Avobenzone (AVO) is a sunscreen with high global production and is constantly released into the environment. Incorporating sewage biosolids for fertilization purposes, the leaching from cultivated soils, and the use of wastewater for irrigation explain its presence in the soil. There is a lack of information about the impact of this sunscreen on plants. In the present study, the ecotoxicity of AVO was tested at concentrations 1, 10, 100, and 1,000 ng/L. All concentrations caused a reduction in root growth of Allium cepa, Cucumis sativus, and Lycopersicum esculentum seeds, as well as a mitodepressive effect, changes in the mitotic spindle and a reduction in root growth of A. cepa bulbs. The cell cycle was disturbed because AVO disarmed the enzymatic defense system of root meristems, leading to an accumulation of hydroxyl radicals and superoxides, besides lipid peroxidation in cells. Therefore, AVO shows a high potential to cause damage to plants and can negatively affect agricultural production and the growth of non-cultivated plants.

BACKGROUND: Seroprevalence studies provide information on the true extent of infection and capture demographic and geographic differences, indicating the level of immunity against Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). We sought to provide local evidence of SARS-CoV-2 exposure in school-aged children during in-class teaching in Maputo City and Province, Mozambique. METHODS: Between August and November 2022, we performed a cross-sectional study in school-aged children in four schools in rural, peri-urban, and urban areas of Maputo City and Province. A point-of-care test was used to evaluate SARS-CoV-2 antigens and anti-SARS-CoV-2-specific immunoglobulin M (IgM) and immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies. Descriptive statistics were used to estimate the prevalence of the antigens and antibodies. Multiple logistic regression models were used to estimate the adjusted odds ratio (AOR) for the factors associated with anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies. RESULTS: A total of 736 school-aged children were analyzed. The prevalence of the SARS-CoV-2 antigen was 0.5% (4/736). The prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 antigens was 0.0% (0/245), 0.8% (2/240) and 0.8% (2/251), in the rural, peri-urban and urban areas respectively. The overall seroprevalence of the anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies (IgG or IgM) was 80.7% (594/736). In rural area anti-SARS-CoV-2 IgG or IgM antibodies were detected in 76.7% (188/245), while in peri-urban area they were detected in 80.0% (192/240) and in urban area they were detected in 85.3% (214/251). In the adjusted logistic regression model, school-aged children from the urban area were more likely to have anti-SARS-CoV-2 IgG or IgM antibodies than were school-aged children from the rural area (adjusted odds ratio: 1.679; 95% CI: 1.060-2.684; p-value = 0.028). CONCLUSIONS: During the in-class teaching period, active SARS-CoV-2 cases in school-aged children were observed. More than half of the school-aged children were exposed to SARS-CoV-2, and SARS-CoV-2 was significantly more common in the schools at the urban area than in the school in the rural area at Maputo City and Province.

ABSTRACT

The Yamuna River in India and the Mississippi River in the United States hold significant commercial, cultural, and ecological importance. This preliminary survey compares the bacterial communities sampled in surface waters at 11 sites (Yamuna headwaters, Mississippi headwaters, Yamuna River Yamunotri Town, Mississippi River at Winona, Tons River, Yamuna River at Paonta Sahib, Yamuna River Delhi-1, Yamuna River Delhi-2, Yamuna River before Sangam, Sangam, Ganga River before Sangam). Bacterial 16S rDNA analyses demonstrate dominance of Proteobacteria and Bacteroidetes phyla. Actinobacteria were also dominant at sites near Sangam in India and sites in Minnesota. A dominance of Epsilonbacteraeota were found in Delhi, India. Principal component analysis (PCA) using unique operational taxonomic units (OTUs) resulted in the identification of 3 groups that included the Yamuna River locations in Delhi (Delhi locations), Yamuna headwaters and Yamuna River at Yamunotri (Yamuna River locations below the Glacier) and Mississippi, Ganga, Tons, and other Yamuna River locations. Diversity indices were significantly higher at the Yamuna River locations below the Glacier (Simpson D = 0.986 and Shannon H = 5.06) as compared (p value <0.001) to the Delhi locations (D = 0.951 and H = 4.23) and as compared (p value < 0.001) to Mississippi, Ganga, Tons, and other Yamuna River locations (D = 0.943 and H = 3.96). To our knowledge, this is the first survey to compare Mississippi and Yamuna River bacterial communities. We demonstrate higher diversity in the bacterial communities below the Yamunotri glacier in India.

ABSTRACT

Water transport, mechanical support and storage are the vital functions provided by the xylem. These functions are carried out by different cells, exhibiting significant anatomical variation not only within species but also within individual trees. In this study, we used a comprehensive dataset to investigate the consistency of predicted hydraulic vessel diameter widening values in relation to the distance from the tree apex, represented by the relationship Dh ∝ Lß (where Dh is the hydraulic vessel diameter, L the distance from the stem apex and ß the scaling exponent). Our analysis involved ten Fagus sylvatica L. trees sampled at two distinct sites in the Italian Apennines. Our results strongly emphasize that vessel diameter follows a predictable pattern with the distance from the stem apex, and ß ~ 0.20 remains consistent across cambial age and climates. This finding supports the hypothesis that trees do not alter their axial configuration represented by scaling of vessel diameter to compensate for hydraulic limitations imposed by tree height during growth. The study further indicates that within-tree variability significantly contributes to the overall variance of the vessel diameter-stem length exponent. Understanding the factors that contribute to the intraindividual variability in the widening exponent is essential, particularly in relation to interspecific responses and adaptations to drought stress.

ABSTRACT

Propylparaben (PrP) and dichloropropylparaben (diClPrP) are found in soil worldwide, mainly due to the incorporation of urban sludge in crop soils and the use of non-raw wastewater for irrigation. Studies on the adverse effects of PrP on plants are incipient and not found for diClPrP. PrP and diClPrP were evaluated at concentrations 4, 40, and 400 µg/L for their phytotoxic potential to seeds of Allium cepa (onion), Cucumis sativus (cucumber), Lycopersicum sculentum (tomato), and Lactuca sativa (lettuce), and cytotoxic, genotoxic potential, and for generating oxygen-reactive substances in root meristems of A. cepa bulbs. PrP and diClPrP caused a significant reduction in seed root elongation in all four species. In A. cepa bulb roots, PrP and diClPrP resulted in a high prophase index; in addition, PrP at 400 µg/L and diClPrP at the three concentrations significantly decreased cell proliferation and caused alterations in a significant number of cells. Furthermore, diClPrP concentrations induced the development of hooked roots in onion bulbs. The two chemical compounds caused significant changes in the modulation of catalase, ascorbate peroxidase, and guaiacol peroxidase, disarming the root meristems against hydroxyl radicals and superoxides. Therefore, PrP and diClPrP were phytotoxic and cytogenotoxic to the species tested, proving dangerous to plants.

OBJECTIVES: To compare the supply of molnupiravir and nirmatrelvir/ritonavir in relation to patient characteristics and other co-prescribed medicines and to estimate the number of patients without contraindications to nirmatrelvir/ritonavir who were treated with molnupiravir. STUDY DESIGN, SETTING: Retrospective observational study of patients identified in the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) 10 % sample dataset who were supplied with either molnupiravir or nirmatrelvir/ritonavir between May and December 2022. We supplemented the PBS dataset with aggregated counts from published literature to determine prevalence of clinical contraindications to nirmatrelvir/ritonavir. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: We used multivariable Poisson regression to estimate risk ratios (RR) of receiving nirmatrelvir/ritonavir over molnupiravir. RESULTS: We identified 54,550 patients who received either nirmatrelvir/ritonavir (26.8 %) or molnupiravir (73.2 %). Their average age was 71.6 (SD = 13.4) years and 57.1 % were female. Patients were less likely to receive nirmatrelvir/ritonavir with increasing age (RR = 0.50; 95 % CI: 0.48-0.53; for ages 85 + compared to < 65 years) or who had received medicines contraindicated for use with nirmatrelvir/ritonavir (RR = 0.66; 95 % CI: 0.64-0.68). During the study period, we estimated that between 28.4 % and 45.4 % of patients aged ≥ 65 years had received molnupiravir in the absence of pharmacological and clinical contraindications to nirmatrelvir/ritonavir. CONCLUSION: Many prescriptions were written for molnupiravir where there were no contraindications to nirmatrelvir/ritonavir. The benefits that followed from prompt government action in approving and obtaining nirmatrelvir/ritonavir were therefore likely to be less than they could potentially have been. Governments should consider investing in quality improvement systems to ensure the best outcomes in terms of efficacy and safety.

BACKGROUND: [177Lu]Lu-PSMA-617 (177Lu-PSMA-617) plus protocol-permitted standard of care (SOC) prolonged overall survival (OS) and radiographic progression-free survival (rPFS) versus SOC in patients with prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA)-positive metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) in the phase 3 VISION study, in addition to beneficial effects on symptomatic skeletal events (SSEs) and health-related quality of life (HRQOL). METHODS: Post hoc analyses used the full analysis set from the VISION study (N = 831) overall and by randomized treatment arm (177Lu-PSMA-617 plus SOC, n = 551; SOC, n = 280). Correlations were determined between OS and rPFS and between rPFS or OS and time to SSE or to worsening HRQOL (Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Prostate [FACT-P] and 5-level EQ-5D [EQ-5D-5L]). Correlation analyses used an iterative multiple imputation copula-based approach (correlation coefficients [rho] of <0.3 were defined as weak, ≥0.3 and <0.5 as mild, ≥0.5 and <0.7 as moderate, and ≥0.7 as strong). RESULTS: In the overall population, rPFS correlated strongly with OS (rho, ≥0.7). Correlations between rPFS or OS and time to SSE without death were weak or mild. Time to worsening in the FACT-P total score and emotional and physical well-being domains correlated mildly or moderately with rPFS and moderately with OS. Correlation coefficients for time-to-worsening EQ-5D-5L scores were mild to moderate for both rPFS and OS. Correlation coefficients were similar between treatment arms. CONCLUSIONS: In this analysis of the VISION study, rPFS correlated strongly with OS but not with time to SSE or worsening HRQOL. These findings require further investigation.

BACKGROUND: Individuals with chronic diseases often search for health information online. The Diabetes Online Community (DOC) is an active community with members who exchange health information; however, few studies have examined health information brokering in the DOC. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to develop and validate the Attitudes Toward Seeking Health Information Online (ATSHIO) scale in a sample of adults with type 1 diabetes (T1D). METHODS: People with T1D were recruited through the DOC, specifically Facebook and Twitter. They were provided with a Qualtrics link to complete the survey. This was a mixed methods study that used thematic analysis along with existing theory and formative research to design the quantitative ATSHIO scale. RESULTS: A total of 166 people with T1D participated in this study. Confirmatory factor analyses determined a 2-factor scale (Trusting and Evaluating Online Health Information in the DOC and Engaging With Online Health Information in the DOC) with good convergent validity and discriminant validity. Correlations were found between social support, online health information-seeking, diabetes distress, and disease management. CONCLUSIONS: The ATSHIO scale can be used to investigate how people with diabetes are using the internet for obtaining health information, which is especially relevant in the age of telehealth and Health 2.0.

ABSTRACT

Poorly cohesive carcinoma (PCC) is an uncommon neoplasm characterized by tumorous cells exhibiting a lack of adhesion. PCC has been reported rarely in the small intestine other than at the ampulla of Vater. We present a 40-year-old man with recurrent abdominal pain and small bowel obstruction. Imaging revealed an abnormal appearing distal small bowel, with only nonspecific mucosal changes discovered on antegrade and retrograde enteroscopy. On subsequent diagnostic laparoscopy, an ileal mass was found and resected with histopathology showing PCC with signet ring formation. This is an aggressive cancer with a worse prognosis than other small bowel adenocarcinomas.

ABSTRACT

Axolotls are uniquely able to completely regenerate the spinal cord after amputation. The underlying governing mechanisms of this regenerative response have not yet been fully elucidated. We previously found that spinal cord regeneration is mainly driven by cell-cycle acceleration of ependymal cells, recruited by a hypothetical signal propagating from the injury. However, the nature of the signal and its propagation remain unknown. In this theoretical study, we investigated whether the regeneration-inducing signal can follow a reaction-diffusion process. We developed a computational model, validated it with experimental data, and showed that the signal dynamics can be understood in terms of reaction-diffusion mechanism. By developing a theory of the regenerating outgrowth in the limit of fast reaction-diffusion, we demonstrate that control of regenerative response solely relies on cell-to-signal sensitivity and the signal reaction-diffusion characteristic length. This study lays foundations for further identification of the signal controlling regeneration of the spinal cord.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: This study aimed to examine current global practices in regenerative therapy (RT) for erectile dysfunction (ED) and to establish expert recommendations for its use, addressing the current lack of solid evidence and standardized guidelines. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A 39-question survey was developed by senior Global Andrology Forum (GAF) experts to comprehensively cover clinical aspects of RT. This was distributed globally via a secure online Google Form to ED specialists through the GAF website, international professional societies, and social media, the responses were analyzed and presented for frequencies as percentages. Consensus on expert recommendations for RT use was achieved using the Delphi method. RESULTS: Out of 479 respondents from 62 countries, a third reported using RT for ED. The most popular treatment was low-intensity shock wave therapy (54.6%), followed by platelet-rich plasma (24.5%) and their combination (14.7%), with stem cell therapy being the least used (3.7%). The primary indication for RT was the refractory or adverse effects of PDE5 inhibitors, with the best effectiveness reported in middle-aged and mild-to-moderate ED patients. Respondents were confident about its overall safety, with a significant number expressing interest in RT's future use, despite pending guidelines support. CONCLUSIONS: This inaugural global survey reveals a growing use of RT in ED treatment, showcasing its diverse clinical applications and potential for future widespread adoption. However, the lack of comprehensive evidence and clear guidelines requires further research to standardize RT practices in ED treatment.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: The inguinal canal is a region prone to hernias that may require surgery. Although videosurgery may be less aggressive, the identification of nerve branches is necessary to reduce the incidence of inguinodynia that can occur even with this minimally invasive route. Objective: To review the incidence and reasons for inguinodynia in laparoscopic surgical procedures for the correction of inguinal hernias. Method: Systematic review, carried out in the PubMed, BVS and Google Scholar databases from 2018 to 2024, including articles in Portuguese and English. From initial number of 1,758 articles 10 were selected. Result: The main findings of the research proved that the recognition and proper anatomical identification of the main nerves of the inguinal region during the operation - iliohypogastric, ilioinguinal and genital branch of the genitofemoral - are able to reduce the chances of patients developing chronic pain in the inguinal region after hernioplasty. The surgeon's expertise and experience in avoiding trauma to local nerves guarantees quality of life for patients and reduces their exposure to possible new subsequent interventions to treat inguinodynia. Conclusion: Prevention is the most important measure when it comes to eradicating inguinodynia. Therefore, the professional must have sufficient knowledge of the most frequent topography of the passage of the main nerves and their branches to avoid iatrogenic injuries


Introdução: O canal inguinal é região propensa a hérnias que podem ter indicação cirúrgica. Embora a videocirurgia possa ser menos agressiva, a identificação dos ramos nervosos é necessária para diminuir a incidência de inguinodinia que pode ocorrer mesmo com essa via minimamente invasiva. Objetivo: Revisar a incidência e os motivos da inguinodinia nos procedimentos cirúrgicos laparoscópicos na correção das hérnias inguinais. Método: Revisão sistemática, realizada nas bases de dados PubMed, BVS e Google Scholar no período de 2018 a 2024, incluindo artigos em português e inglês. De 1.758 artigos, 10 foram selecionados. Resultado: Os principais achados da pesquisa comprovaram que o reconhecimento e a devida identificação anatômica dos principais nervos da região inguinal durante a operação ­ ílio-hipogástrico, ilioinguinal e ramo genital do genitofemoral - são capazes de diminuir as chances de os pacientes desenvolverem dor crônica na região inguinal após hernioplastia. A perícia e experiência do cirurgião ao evitar trauma nos nervos locais garante qualidade de vida aos pacientes e reduz a exposição deles a eventuais novas intervenções subsequentes para tratamento de inguinodinia. Conclusão: A prevenção é a medida mais importante tratando-se de erradicar a inguinodinia. Dessa maneira, o profissional deve ter conhecimento suficiente da topografia mais frequente da passagem dos principais nervos e seus ramos para evitar lesões iatrogênicas.

ABSTRACT

Introdução: A laminoplastia cervical é uma das técnicas-padrão para o tratamento da mielopatia cervical espondilótica. Foi desenvolvida por ortopedistas japoneses na década de 1970 como alternativa à laminectomia. Ao longo dos anos, vários tipos de laminoplastia foram descritos. A de porta aberta e porta francesa são as mais utilizadas e estudadas na literatura e a partir delas foram descritas variações técnicas, incluindo o uso da endoscopia. Objetivo: Rever as técnicas de laminoplastia descritas na literatura. Métodos: Foi realizada revisão de literatura nas plataformas Pubmed e Scielo em janeiro de 2024. Inicialmente foram selecionados 66 artigos que abordavam algo relacionado aos tipos de técnica de laminoplastia em seu título. Os resumos desses artigos foram lidos e selecionados aqueles que abordavam revisão sobre o tema ou que descreviam um novo tipo de laminoplastia ou variação técnica de porta aberta ou porta francesa. Resultados: Foram considerados para estudo um total de 20 artigos. Conclusões: Após o advento da laminoplastia open-door e de french-door, surgiram algumas variações, como a laminoplastia two-open-door, a laminoplastia open-door alternada e as associadas à laminectomia C3.


Background: Cervical laminoplasty is one of the standard techniques for the treatment of spondylotic cervical myelopathy. It was developed by Japanese orthopedists in the 1970s as an alternative to laminectomy. Over the years, several types of laminoplasty have been described. Open-door and French-door laminoplasty are the most widely used and studied in the literature and based on them, technical variations have been described, including the use of endoscopy. Objective: To review the laminoplasty techniques described in the literature. Methods: A literature review was conducted on the Pubmed and Scielo platforms in January 2024. Initially, 66 articles were selected that addressed something related to types of laminoplasty technique in their title. The abstracts of these articles were read and those that addressed a review on the subject or that described a new type of laminoplasty or technical variation of open-door or French-door were selected. Results: A total of 20 articles were considered for study. Conclusions: After the advent of open-door and french-door laminoplasty, some variations emerged, such as two-open-door laminoplasty, alternating open-door laminoplasty and those associated with C3 laminectomy.
