ABSTRACT

Sexually transmitted diseases in children include vertically transmitted diseases responsible for severe fetopathy and neonatal diseases as well as infections acquired in the postnatal period. Sexually transmitted diseases in children raise the question of possible of sexual abuse, which has major medicolegal, social and psychological implications. The proof of sexual abuse is further complicated by the fact that some neonatal infections can be revealed only at a later stage. Moreover in rare cases venereal diseases are transmitted by non sexual contact. Early sexual activity, should also be included (10% of children have their first sexual intercourse before the age of 15).

ABSTRACT

We describe a 16-year-old boy with reflex sympathetic dystrophy after a fracture of the right hand. He had inflammation of the proximal nail folds and arrested nail growth of digits 3, 4 and 5 on the right hand. After 2 months lymphatic drainage treatment, the changes of the nails had disappeared.

ABSTRACT

A diagnosis of aortic insufficiency and mitral stenosis was made in a 24-year-old woman after an episode of heart failure following delivery. A double valvular replacement was performed 4 years later. At that time she suffered from recurrent episodes of erythema nodosum like lesions with an histological diagnosis of cutaneous polyarteritis nodosa. After another 4-year interval she presented with severe arterial hypertension and a biological inflammatory syndrome. An arteriography disclosed stenoses of the abdominal aorta, renal, and iliac arteries as well as occlusion of the right subclavian artery, diagnostic of Takayasu arteritis. We postulate that this woman presented a rare combination of cardiac and skin involvement of Takayasu's disease which preceded the classical arteritis of the aortic branches by 8 and 4 years, respectively.
