ABSTRACT

Hormone replacement therapy in menopausal women offers many potential health benefits. Only 15% of patients who are eligible for therapy continue treatment past 3 months. Fear and misinformation prevent them from initiating therapy, and side effects prompt them to discontinue taking their medication. This article reviews menopause and hormone replacement with emphasis on the risks, benefits, and hazards of therapy. New options for treatment are explored.
