ABSTRACT

The efficacy and safety of two different regimens of dihydroergocristine, in the treatment of patients with chronic cerebro-vascular disease, were compared in this double-blind study. Forty out-patients, 11 males and 29 females, aged 55-80 years were randomly assigned to treatment with 6 or 20 mg dihydroergocristine, daily, for 3 months. The Sandoz Clinical Assessment for Geriatrics (SCAG) scale was used to assess the efficacy of treatment. Both doses induced a statistically significant improvement (P < 0.01) in total SCAG scores after both 45 and 90 days of treatment. The higher dose produced a significantly greater improvement in total SCAG scores than did the lower dose after both 45 and 90 days. There were no statistically or clinically significant changes in any of the laboratory parameters after either treatment; neither were there any statistically significant changes in blood-pressure or pulse-rate except in the case of standing systolic pressure which decreased significantly (P < 0.01) in the 20 mg group. The only adverse event reported was a case of mild gastric pain at the end of treatment with 20 mg dihydroergocristine.

ABSTRACT

Mepartricin (SPA-S-160 enteric-coated tablets) fat-lowering effect was evaluated in 20 patients with lipids disorders of various type. The cross-over trial was carried out with clofibrate as reference drug. Posology consisted, in both treatments, of 3 tablets/die. All subjects received each drug for a 30-day period, with a drug-free interval of 30 days. The results proved positive for both drugs but mepartricin showed a better therapeutical index. Local and systemic tolerance was good for both drugs even though the transaminases values were found to be sensibly higher after the therapeutic cycle with clofibrate.

ABSTRACT

A new analysis system for the partial thromboplastin test (Cephotest) has been applied to 40 subjects (normal, suffering from nutritional toxic hepatopathy, chronic hepatopathy and cirrhosis of the liver). The test was then compared with other blood clotting tests (Howell's test, PTT test, Quick's test, Normotest and Thrombotest) and proved to have very good standardization and sensitivity.

ABSTRACT

A recently introduced clotting test designed for the assessment of liver insufficiency was used in 10 normal subjects, 10 with toxic liver disease, 10 with chronic liver disease, and 10 with chronic liver disease, and 10 with cirrhosis of the liver. Comparison with the results of Quick's test, Normotest and thrombotest showed the new test to have excellent standardisation and good sensitivity in the detection of liver impairment.

ABSTRACT

-- A benign form of Albers Schonberg disease (osteopetrosis) is described. The clinical and pathogenetical aspects are discussed and the findings compared with the literature. The diagnosis was made on the basis of radiological findings and histological results of bone biopsy.

ABSTRACT

A case of dyslipoproteinaemia of type V in a woman suffering from primary hypothyroidism, florid diabetes mellitus and obesity is reported. The case is commented on in general and as regards possible correlations between the diseases and the dyslipoproteinaemic picture. The various therapeutic treatment employed and results are also reported.

ABSTRACT

Statistical assessment of laboratory data relating to about 700 cases of lymphopathy of various kinds was used in the elaboration of material to be used in diagnosis in the very early stages of the disease. Diagnostic tables giving a high degree of probability were prepared.

ABSTRACT

A breakdown of the statistical data for 700 cases of lymphopathy was undertaken to how far each disease picture could be considered as a seperate entity or as part of a sub-class. It was found that two possibilities exist: a) there is a typical sub-class for this nosological category; b) two sub-classes can be formed, one of which covers paranormal situations, while the other includes cases presenting pathological parameter values. In either event, there remains a considerable fringe of atypical cases that cannot be included in any sub-class.
