ABSTRACT

The association of mother's malignancy with metastases to the products of conception is rarely reported. We present 8th case reported in the literature of oat-cell lung carcinoma complicated by an aggressive clinical course and documented placental metastases. Review of all published cases of lung cancer metastasizing to the placenta is also presented. A 44-year-old white pregnant woman at an estimated gestational age of 30 weeks presented with cervical incompetence symptoms and multiple tumors of 2-4 cm in diameter located in the subcutaneous tissue of the chest, including both breasts. The biopsy revealed a metastatic oat-cell carcinoma. Cesarean section was performed immediately. During the procedure, micronodular metastatic infiltration of the liver was noted. Microscopic examination of placenta showed clusters of oat-cell carcinoma calls within the intervillous spaces; no infiltration of villi themselves was noted. The malignant cells were morphologically identical as those of the subcutaneous metastases. The woman succumbed to cancer and died on the 16th postoperative day. Lung cancer metastasizing to the placenta is relatively rarely reported. In all cases only placental metastases were found; the fetus in all cases was spared. Only in one out of 8 reported cases outcome of mother was not fatal. It should be emphasized that not in all cases of maternal malignancy the histological examination of the placental was made Therefore it is possible that the incidence of placental involvement is more often than it is reported.

ABSTRACT

UNLABELLED: The aim of the study was to determine wether Gram-negative bacterial cell membrane lipopolysaccharides (endotoxine) can change the IL-6 and TNF-alpha cytokine concentration synthetized by fallopian tube endothelial cells. For the study 5 normal fallopian tubes from females at their reproductive age who underwent total hysterectomy due to uterine myoma were used. The fallopian tubes specimens (endothelial tissue) 2 mm2 fixed in 0.5 ml DMEM/HAM F-12 (GibcoBRL) solution with 15% FCS, Gentamycin, Fungizone, ITS (GibcoBRL) were incubated at 37 degrees C with 5% CO2. The explants were stimulated by Escherichia coli lipopolysaccharide (LPS) at ascending concentrations 1 ng/mL, 10 ng/mL and 100 ng LPS/mL incubation media. Tissue specimen incubated in a media without LPS were used for control test. IL-6 activity in the supernatants were determined by Van Sinc method, TNF-alpha activity were determined against WEHI-164.13. cells according to Espevik and Nisser-Mayer. The presence of TNF-alpha and IL-6 were confirmed in all the supernatants of the incubated fallopian tubes explants. The LPS stimulation caused a concentration increase in both cytokines. The maximum cytokine concentration level was observed in the incubation stimulated at 1 and 10 ng LPS/mL incubation media. The use of the highest LPS concentration retarded the cytokine production. CONCLUSION: The TNF-alpha and IL-6 cytokines dose-dependent production is caused by the fallopian tubes LPS stimulation.

ABSTRACT

Urinary trypin inhibitor concentration (UTI) was measured by Fritz and all method in the groups of women: non-pregnant (I), pregnant (II), in pregnancy complicated by EPH-gestosis (III) and in the prolongated pregnancy (IV). Furthermore, in the urine from the investigated group the index protein/creatinine was established. There was noticed the statistically significant increase in the UTI concentration in II, III, IV groups comparing to the non-pregnant group--I, and the increase in UTI in III and IV group in comparison to group II. The UTI measurement in the pregnant women connected with the index protein/creatinine could be significant for diagnosing of the pathology of pregnancy.

ABSTRACT

The thesis of this work was to compare the aminopeptidases activity in the amniotic fluid obtained during the physiological labor and during the labor of pregnant with EPH-gestosis, in presence of the beta-naphtlamidic L-amino-acids (alanine, leucine, phenylalanine, tyrosine, histidine, cysteine) chromogenic substrates. It was assumed the 3-7 times increase in the aminopeptidases activity counted to the proteins from the labored with EPH-gestosis comparing to the labored in physiological labor. Among the used substrates the highest activity in both groups of labored women was measured in presence of substrates with exact amino-acids in this order: L-Ala > L-Leu > L-Phe > L-Tyr > L-His > L-Cys.

ABSTRACT

Cysteine proteinase inhibitors (IPC) concentration was measured by the modified Barrett method using papaine in urine, amniotic fluid and serum obtained from the healthy labored women and from labored women in pregnancy complicated by EPH-gestosis. It was noticed the statistically significant increase in the IPC concentration in the material from the pregnant women with EPH-gestosis comparing to the women, which pregnancy had the physiologically normal course.

ABSTRACT

The gamma-glutamyltransferase (EC 2.3.2.2) activity was measured in the blood serum obtained from 25 female patients with the uterine cervix carcinoma 10 and from 21 women with the uterine corpus carcinoma 10, treated by brachytherapy. The enzyme activity was determined in the five time points: before the brachytherapy, in the middle of the treating course, immediately after the application of the full dose of radium and in the seventh and the fourteenth day after the finishing the treatment. It was assumed the changes in the enzyme activity during the treatment course, and the highest values were observed immediately after the brachytherapy. It was noticed, that there is the direct connection between the enzyme activity changes and used brachytherapy method.

ABSTRACT

The findings obtained by the authors of the thesis submit the new cognitive values to the diagnosis of pathology of pregnancy i.e. the influence of nicotine on the organisms of a mother and a new-born child, estimated by the assay of cotinine, the most important metabolite of nicotine. The authors lay a particular stress on the "colostrum-milk way" in the mother-child relationship and this is that needs to be emphasized in this thesis.

ABSTRACT

In the serum of women during the pregnancy and during the stages of the delivery the activity of creatine kinase (CK) was measured using the test by Fermognost. The investigations were led in three 20-personal groups of women: non-pregnant, pregnant examined three times, in each trimester of pregnancy, and labored women examined three times, one time in each stage of delivery. The age of investigated women was between 18-39 years. According to obtained results, it was noticed statistically significant increase in the activity of this enzyme during the pregnancy. Measuring the activity of creatine kinase in three stages of delivery, the highest increase in this enzyme activity was observed in the third stage.

ABSTRACT

Since September 1988 to October 1992 in the I Department and Clinic of Gynaecology Medical Academy of Wroclaw 40 women were operated on infertility due to oviductal factor. This kind of infertility has been previously diagnosed by hysterosalpingography examination and then verified in 22 cases (55%) by laparoscopy combined with chromotubation. The operations were carried out with use of microsurgical technique and instruments. At the same time the prophylaxis of postoperative intraperitoneal adhesions was applied. Seven pregnancies were obtained, that makes 17.5% of success. It is an outcome comparable with results presented by many other world centres of gynaecological microsurgery.

ABSTRACT

Authors demonstrate 21 cases with primary dysmenorrhoea at girls aged 14-17 years, which were observed between 1989-1992 and present way of treatment. In their opinion administration of nonsteroid, antiphlogistic medicaments and the spasmolytics is the most effective method.
