ABSTRACT

This paper presents the results of histologic studies conducted in the context of tenosynovectomy of the flexor tendons to treat carpal tunnel syndrome. The most common findings were inflammatory changes of the synovial sheath, vascular pathology and fibrous changes of the connective tissue.

ABSTRACT

The authors present a follow-up of thirty five patients with carpal tunnel syndrome, who had undergone surgical treatment including synovialectomy of the flexor tendons. Beyond the clinical findings, pre- and postoperative comparison of the electromyograms, conduction velocities and an exact analysis of the lipid disorders were studied. These findings and the results of the histological analysis of the tenosynovial membrane are evaluated with special regard to the etiology of the carpal tunnel syndrome.

ABSTRACT

Eight fresh, cadaveric knees have been fitted with four different total knee cemented prostheses. Loading forces at the bone implant fixation interface of the patella component have been measured in a knee joint testing rig by four miniaturized force transducers, before and after a lateral release of the patellar retinaculum. The lateral release resulted in a significant local force reduction in the lateral and/or proximal quadrant of the patella resection plane depending on the knee flexion angle, quadriceps tensile force direction, and the patellar prosthesis design.

ABSTRACT

Four cases of malignant synovialoma (synonym: synovial sarcoma) of the sole of the foot are reported. A striking feature of all four cases was the long delay before the final diagnosis was made. Although this condition is rare, our cases nevertheless show that chronic neuralgiform pain close to the joint should prompt consideration of this tumor in the differential diagnosis. However, even surgical revision or explorations do not always reveal the tumor.

ABSTRACT

Follow-up of 30 patients with hip dislocation fractures showed avascular necroses in more than 30% of the cases and/or arthrotic changes and dissatisfying clinical results. In our opinion there is no sense in trying to reconstruct the joint by surgical procedures especially in elderly patients in cases with combined fractures, concomitant comminuted fractures of the femoral head and neck or destruction of the acetabulum. In all these cases we recommend a total hip prosthesis (elderly people) or in younger patients an arthrodesis immediately after the accident.
