ABSTRACT

Right ventricular (RV) systolic function is an essential but neglected component in cardiac evaluation, and its importance to the contribution to overall cardiac function is undermined. It is not only sensitive to the effect of left heart valve disease but is also more sensitive to changes in pressure overload than the left ventricle. Pulmonary Hypertension is the common and well-recognized complication of RV systolic dysfunction. It is also the leading cause of pulmonary valve disease and right ventricular dysfunction. Patients with a high pulmonary artery pressure (PAP) and a low RV ejection fraction have a seven-fold higher risk of death than heart failure patients with a normal PAP and RV ejection fraction. Furthermore, it is an independent predictor of survival in these patients. In this review, we examine the association of right ventricular systolic function with Pulmonary Hypertension by focusing on various pathological and clinical manifestations while assessing their impact. We also explore new 2022 ESC/ERS guidelines for diagnosing and treating right ventricular dysfunction in Pulmonary Hypertension.

ABSTRACT

Apical root resorption, which is characterised as a biological or abnormal phenomenon that shortens the length of the root apex, is additional typical iatrogenic impact of orthodontic tooth movement that may jeopardise the effectiveness of treatment and tooth lifespan. The main goals of the current retrospective investigation were to assess the dimensions of alveolar bone alterations that come along with orthodontic movement and to look into the frequency and extent of resorption of root in maxillary incisors across categories that were similarly managed with clear aligners (OCA) and fixed appliances (OFA) using CBCT. The study included 50 subjects who were divided into two categories with 25 study subjects in each category. Category OFA: Subjects receiving OFA (n=25). A CBCT scan was used to get three-dimensional pictures at the beginning of therapy as well as at the end of therapy. The overall resorption of root at apical region in OFA group was 0.63±0.21 mm. The overall resorption of root at apical region in OCA group was 0.32 ±0.36 mm. The difference in observation was statistically significant (p= 0.000) with reduced resorption of root at apical region in clear aligners. It was concluded that the decrease in thickness of alveolar bone was greater in orthodontic fixed appliances group as compared to clear aligners. The resorption of root at apical region was lesser in clear aligners group as compared to fixed appliances.

ABSTRACT

Pediatric glioma treatment can be confounded by eloquent anatomical location and pathologic and genetic characteristics. Current literature suggests that the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) inhibitor bevacizumab has been linked to enhancing disease control; however, its safety and effectiveness are unknown. Bevacizumab has been linked with an increased incidence of intratumoral hemorrhage as well as arterial and venous thromboembolism. A rare adverse effect of chemotherapeutic treatment with bevacizumab is sinus venous thrombosis (SVT), with only a few cases reported to date. This review highlights the pathophysiology of bevacizumab, its rare and life-threatening side effect of SVT, and future recommendations.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is the most common clinical finding during pregnancy, and if it is asymptomatic bacteriuria (ASB), it can progress to pyelonephritis, leading to further complications. The present study aims to know the prevalence of ASB in pregnant females and the antimicrobial resistance pattern in our hospital setup. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 552 urine samples were collected from pregnant females (with no symptoms of UTI) both attending outpatient department and admitted in the wards of obstetrics and gynecology department. Urine culture was performed on blood agar, MacConkey agar, and UTI chromogenic agar. Antibiotic sensitivity test was done using Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion method, and the results were interpreted. RESULTS: The prevalence rate of ASB in pregnant females was 17.4%. It was common in the age group of 25-33 years (60.4%). The infection rate was higher in the second trimester (43.7%) compared to the third (29.2%) and first (27.1%) trimester. Multiparity (60.4%) was a common finding in ASB during pregnancy. There was a significant finding of previous history of UTI (22.9%) and anemia (58.3%) associated with ASB in pregnant females. Escherichia coli (39.2%) was the most common microorganism isolated followed by Staphylococcus aureus (34.3%), Enterococcus faecalis (14.7%), Klebsiella (4.9%), coagulase-negative Staphylococcus spp. (2.9%), and Citrobacter and Acinetobacter (1.9%). Most sensitive drugs to be given in ASB during pregnancy were nitrofurantoin and fosfomycin. CONCLUSION: It was emphasized that urine culture should be done in early antenatal visit as routine screening to identify ASB in pregnant females as it can prevent fetal and maternal complications.

Natural polymers are widely utilized in pharmaceutical and food industries. Starch, a major carbohydrate is a staple food in human and animal diets which is simply extractable from various sources, like potato, maize, corn, wheat, etc. It is widely used as a raw material in various food and non food industries as well as in paper, textile and other industries. This article summarizes the starch and modification of starch and to produce a novel molecule with various applications in industries including number of advances in pharmaceutical industry. The unique characteristics of starch and their modified form can be successfully used as drug delivery carriers in various pharmaceutical preparations. It is widely used as controlled and sustained release polymer, tablet disintegrant, drug delivery carrier, plasma volume expander and also finds its applicability in bone tissue engineering and in artificial red cells. It also includes the patents related to starch and modified starch based products and their commercial utility.
