ABSTRACT

Characterization of RuO(2) and TiO(2) sols of different aging times, obtained by forced hydrolysis of appropriate chloride salts, was performed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The aging time of TiO(2) sols was observed to affect the size of particles as well as the crystallinity of the solid phase of the sols. The surface morphology of RuO(2)-TiO(2) coatings on titanium, obtained by the sol-gel procedure using TiO(2) sols of different aging times and RuO(2) sol of fixed aging time, was investigated by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) at three different scan sizes. The STM data indicated uniform microdistribution of the coating material (small microroughness) and an increase in nanoroughness with the aging time of the TiO(2) sol. The observed increase in real coating surface area with increasing TiO(2) particle size confirms the earlier cyclic voltammetry results.

ABSTRACT

Warthin-Starry method is an argyrophilic method, performed at ph 3.2. It is a very efficient method for demonstration of melanin pigment granules in the nevus tissue and in malignant melanoma. We have concluded that it is highly specific for demonstration of melanin pigment granules, and more efficient than the Fontan-Masson method. The Fontan-Mason method reduces other pigments in the cell, apart from melanin. Modified Warthin-Starry method at ph 3.2 in the nevus tissue reduces only melanin pigment granules.

ABSTRACT

Nevus cells are biologically significant because they are associated with epidermal melanocytes, while their clinical malignant melanomas. Apart from many other ultrastructural features their mutual characteristic is that they are exceptionally diverged. The main feature distinguishing nevus cells from melanocytes is the presence of big binuclear cells as well as frequent occurrence of grouped melanosomes in their cytoplasm.

ABSTRACT

We conducted an anonymous poll among 221 girls and 106 boys from the second grade of secondary schools in Somboru, Crvenka and Ruski Krsturu in order to collect data on some aspects of their sexual knowledge and behavior. By the 16th year of life 8.6% of the girls and 36.8% of the boys experienced coitus, while 48% of the girls and 72% of the boys experienced intimate caressing with the opposite sex. It has been assessed that their knowledge on the physiology of the sexual life and contraception is poor and overestimeted, especially among the boys. The sources of information are mostly inadequate which necessitates an organized approach to sexual education.

ABSTRACT

A girl was described with an unusual combination of McCune-Albright's syndrome (polyostotic fibrotic dysplasia, hyperpigmentations on the skin and precocious puberty) with hyperthyroidism, hypophosphatemic-hyperphosphaturic rickets and acromegaly. Although the pathogenetic mechanism involved in the development of this endocrinopathy in this syndrome is not quite clear, the achieved results, as well as data of other researchers, suggest that the endocrinological disorders in this syndrome are the result of either an increased sensitivity of periphery endocrine organs or/and of an autonomous hyperfunction (similar to multiple endocrine adenomatosis).
