ABSTRACT

We evaluated awareness of treatment as prevention (TasP) among adults people living with HIV (PLHIV) in five infectious disease departments in Paris, then how they perceived its impact on their sexual well-being. This cross-sectional multicenter survey was conducted in 2014 during scheduled clinical appointments using a self-administered questionnaire. We analyzed 520 questionnaires (42% women, 54% men of whom 57% were MSM [men who have sex with men]). 75% of women were born abroad, most commonly in sub-Saharan Africa, whereas 64% of men were French-born. The mean time since HIV diagnosis was 12.8 ± 7.8 years. Eighty-seven percent [84-90%]95% reported being aware of the impact of ART on HIV transmission, 94% MSM, 86% women, 83% heterosexual men. PLHIV reported that they gained awareness of TasP through medical doctors (86%). The fear of transmission was perceived as alleviated for 73% [69%;78%]95%, more often among MSM; the sexual life was reported to be improved for 28% [24%;33%]95%; and ART adherence to be improved for 45% [40%;50%]95%, more often among women. The awareness of TasP was relatively high, but it seems important to understand the features of male and female populations of PLHIV to adapt counseling during follow-up appointments, as women's answers differed in various regards.

ABSTRACT

The impact of a chronic disease such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) on sexual functioning and body image can significantly impair the quality of life of patients. This review considers the sexual and fertility aspects of IBD patients and their daily management. Modern IBD healthcare management should include appropriate communication on sexuality and consider psychological, physiological, and biological issues. Patients with IBD have less children than the general population, and voluntary childlessness is frequent. The most influential factors reported by IBD patients who experience fertility alteration are psychological and surgery-related problems. Pregnancy is a major concern for patients, and any pregnancy for IBD patients should be closely followed-up to keep the chronic disease in a quiescent state. Preconceptional consultation is of great help.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: Research has suggested a high level of satisfaction following beauty and well-being care in oncology. We aimed to assess perception of beauty and well-being care in a large sample of patients affected by cancer. METHODS: From June through August, 2017, a physical and online survey was conducted recruiting patients affected by cancer and their relatives. A questionnaire, established in a collaborative manner with healthcare providers and patients, collected general demographic and medical data, awareness and knowledge data, the experience of beauty and well-being care and perceived benefits. RESULTS: At baseline, 1263 people were recruited (online, n=485; others, n=778) with 1254 usable replies. After excluding caregivers (n=88), the analysis was made on 1166 patients (mean age=51.7). This sample included 1080 women (92.6 %) and breast cancer was prominent (n=827; 70.9%). Among the 481 patients, who had received beauty and well-being care, 405 stated them as a relaxing time (84 %) and the average ranking was 8,1/10. Mean number of sessions was 2.8. A combined scheme of beauty and well-being care (individual and collective) and a greater number of sessions were statistically associated with a higher perceived benefit (P=0.02 and P<0.001) and a higher level of recommendation (P=0.039 and P=0.05). DISCUSSION: This large national survey confirms the high level of satisfaction associated with beauty and well-being care. The type and number of sessions seem to be positively correlated with a greater benefit.
