ABSTRACT

This article presents a bibliographical analysis of markers and biomarkers of Alzheimer's disease (AD). The methodologies used were the imaging markers (Magnetic Resonance and Positron Emission Tomography) and biomarkers of the BA42 protein, Tau protein and Apoliprotein E (ALPE). Thus, decreased levels of BA42, increased Tau, ALPE polymorphisms, and alterations in imaging markers are important as risk factors for the development of AD. A review of the literature is made regarding the clinical findings of this disease.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

The authors performed an optical microscope morphologic and morphometric study of the mammary glands of rats treated and untreated with metoclopramide during estrous and after ovariectomy. They observed that in the group of normal rats treated with the drug the glands were well developed and contained secretion in the lumen of their ducts and alveoli. In the group of rats submitted to ovariectomy and treated with metoclopramide, however, the glands were atrophied and had the same aspect of glands during estrous. These findings are in agreement with the morphometric study, which showed a statistically significant increase of parenchyma in the group of normal treated rats as compared to the other groups and, further, a higher number of alveoli with secretion.

ABSTRACT

Quantitative variation of the lysosomes in the epithelium of the human uterine tube in the menstrual cycle and in post-menopausal period. The authors counted the lysosomes in the human uterine tube in the menstrual cycle and in post-menopausal period. The post-menopausal women were separated in two groups: one received oral estrogens during twenty one day and the other did not. Fragments of uterine ampullae were removed, fixed and submitted to Gomori acid phosphatase method. Results show that the number of lysosomes during the proliferative phase was significantly greater than in secretory phase and post-menopausal period. The number of lysosomes in post-menopausal period was significantly greater in women treated with estrogens. Our result show that estrogens are responsible for the increase of the number of lysosomes.
