ABSTRACT

This retrospective study was conducted to evaluate all-cause healthcare resource utilization (HCRU) and costs in commercially insured patients living with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and explore end-of-life (EOL)-related HCRU and costs. Data from the IQVIA PharMetrics® Plus database (October 2014 to May 2020) were analyzed to identify adults (≥18 years) with PAH (PAH cohort) and those without PH (non-PH cohort). Patients were required to have data for ≥12 months before (baseline) and ≥6 months after (follow-up) the first observed PH diagnosis (index date) for PAH cohort or pseudo index date for non-PH cohort. A PAH EOL cohort was similarly constructed using a broader data window (October 2014 to March 2022) and ≥1 month of follow-up. Annualized all-cause HCRU and costs during follow-up were compared between PAH and non-PH cohorts after 1:1 matching on propensity scores derived from patient characteristics. EOL-related HCRU and costs were explored within 30 days and 6 months before the death date and estimated by a claims-based algorithm in PAH EOL cohort. The annual all-cause total ($183,616 vs. $20,212) and pharmacy ($115,926 vs. $7862; both p < 0.001) costs were 8 and 14 times higher, respectively, in the PAH cohort versus matched non-PH cohort (N = 386 for each). In PAH EOL cohort (N = 28), the mean EOL-related costs were $48,846 and $167,524 per patient within 30 days and 6 months before the estimated death, respectively. Hospitalizations contributed 58.8%-70.8% of the EOL-related costs. The study findings indicate substantial HCRU and costs for PAH. While pharmacy costs were one of the major sources, hospitalization was the primary driver for EOL-related costs.

ABSTRACT

Amyloid ß (Aß) aggregates into two distinct fibril and amorphous forms in the brains of patients with Alzheimer's disease. Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is a biological hydrotrope that causes Aß to form amorphous aggregates and inhibit fibril formation at physiological concentrations. Based on diffracted X-ray blinking (DXB) analysis, the dynamics of Aß significantly increased immediately after ATP was added compared to those in the absence and presence of ADP and AMP, and the effect diminished after 30 min as the aggregates formed. In the presence of ATP, the ß-sheet content of Aß gradually increased from the beginning, and in the absence of ATP, the content increased rapidly after 180 min incubation, as revealed by a time-dependent thioflavin T fluorescence assay. Images of an atomic force microscope revealed that ATP induces the formation of amorphous aggregates with an average diameter of less than 100 nm, preventing fibrillar formation during 4 days of incubation at 37 °C. ATP may induce amorphous aggregation by increasing the dynamics of Aß, and as a result, the other aggregation pathway is omitted. Our results also suggest that DXB analysis is a useful method to evaluate the inhibitory effect of fibrillar formation.

ABSTRACT

Tracing fast nanopore-translocating analytes requires a high-frequency measurement system that warrants a temporal resolution better than 1 µs. This constraint may practically shift the challenge from increasing the sampling bandwidth to dealing with the rapidly growing noise with frequencies typically above 10 kHz, potentially making it still uncertain if all translocation events are unambiguously captured. Here, a numerical simulation model is presented as an alternative to discern translocation events with different experimental settings including pore dimension, bias voltage, the charge state of the analyte, salt concentration, and electrolyte viscosity. The model allows for simultaneous analysis of forces exerting on a large analyte cohort along their individual trajectories; these forces are responsible for the analyte movement leading eventually to the nanopore translocation. Through tracing the analyte trajectories, the Brownian force is found to dominate the analyte movement in electrolytes until the last moment at which the electroosmotic force determines the final translocation act. The mean dwell time of analytes mimicking streptavidin decreases from ≈6 to ≈1 µs with increasing the bias voltage from ±100 to ±500 mV. The simulated translocation events qualitatively agree with the experimental data with streptavidin. The simulation model is also helpful for the design of new solid-state nanopore sensors.

Norovirus (NoV) genogroup II, polymerase type P31, capsid genotype 4, Sydney_2012 variant (GII.P31/GII.4_Sydney_2012) has been circulating at high levels for over a decade, raising the question of whether this strain is undergoing molecular alterations without demonstrating a substantial phylogenetic difference. Here, we applied next-generation sequencing to learn more about the genetic diversity of 14 GII.P31/GII.4_Sydney_2012 strains that caused epidemics in a specific region of Japan, with 12 from Kyoto and 2 from Shizuoka, between 2012 and 2022, with an emphasis on amino acid (aa) differences in all three ORFs. We found numerous notable aa alterations in antigenic locations in the capsid region (ORF2) as well as in other ORFs. In all three ORFs, earlier strains (2013-2016) remained phylogenetically distinct from later strains (2019-2022). This research is expected to shed light on the evolutionary properties of dominating GII.P31/GII.4_Sydney_2012 strains, which could provide useful information for viral diarrhea prevention and treatment.

BACKGROUND: Acute gastroenteritis is one of the major causes of morbidity and mortality in young children worldwide. Among these, rotavirus, norovirus, and adenovirus have been reported as the primary viral pathogens associated with the disease. Rapid diagnosis of viral pathogens is crucial when diarrhea outbreaks occur to ensure the timely administration of appropriate treatment and control measures. METHODS: We evaluated three immunochromatographic test kits designed for the detection of norovirus, rotavirus, and adenovirus in 71 stool specimens collected from children with diarrhea who visited clinics in Japan. The first kit is a triplex immunochromatographic test kit designed for simultaneous detections of norovirus, rotavirus, and adenovirus on a single strip (this kit was referred to as IC-A). The other two immunochromatographic test kits are a dual detection kit for rotavirus and adenovirus, and a single detection kit for norovirus (IC-B). The RT-PCR/PCR was used as the gold standard method. RESULTS: The results revealed that both IC-A and IC-B kits exhibited the same level of sensitivity of detection for rotavirus (72.7%) and adenovirus (22.7%), although the detection rate was lower than that of the RT-PCR/PCR method. However, there was a slight difference in the sensitivity of detection for norovirus between IC-A and IC-B, at 86.7% and 93.3%, respectively. The sensitivity of detection for adenovirus of both kits was relatively lower than those of RT-PCR method. This could be due to low viral load of adenovirus in clinical specimens below the detection limit of IC-A and IC-B kits. However, both immunochromatographic test kits (IC-A and IC-B) exhibited 100% specificity for norovirus, rotavirus, and adenovirus. CONCLUSIONS: The triplex immunochromatographic test kit (IC-A) designed for simultaneous detection of norovirus, rotavirus, and adenovirus has been proved to be more practical and convenient than the use of single or dual detection kits with more or less the same sensitivity and specificity of detections.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Ischaemic stroke often leaves serious sequelae affecting patients' daily activities and quality of life, especially shoulder pain. Shoulder pain after stroke often occurs in the first 3 months with an occurrence rate of 25-72% due to the strong natural neurological mechanism during the time, interferes with the recovery of motor function, increases hospital stay, is associated with depression, and limits mobility as well as inhibits treatment results. In Vietnam, Traditional Medicine (TM) has played an essential role in treating and rehabilitating shoulder pain after stroke for quite a long time. Studies on the pathology of shoulder pain (Jian Tong) after stroke in TM in Vietnam are still inadequate. Therefore, this study evaluated the severity and characteristics of post-stroke Jian Tong in patients with ischaemic stroke. Methods: The study was conducted from January 1, 2023-May 1, 2023. The study consisted of two phases: Phase 1: Searching TM documents and selecting the characteristics that appear in the documents as components for the questionnaire of phase 2. Phase 2: Conduct a cross-sectional study to investigate the characteristics of Jian Tong in 65 patients after ischaemic stroke in the early rehabilitation phase. Results: In phase 1, the study encoded 17 features of Jian Tong from 10 literary documents. In phase 2, we surveyed over 65 patients, and the result was that shoulder pain aggravated by exertion had the highest rate, whereas shoulder pain alleviated by cold and distended shoulder had the fewest. Pain level measured by Number Rating Scale (NRS) points and gender was significantly related to the characteristics of TM shoulder pain - Jian Tong (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The study demonstrated the pain level and the characteristics of Jian Tong in patients with ischaemic stroke in the early rehabilitation phase to contribute to the process of personalized diagnosing and treating Jian Tong after stroke for each patient, especially based on the theoretical basis and reasoning methods of Traditional Medicine.

Objective: To evaluate treatment patterns, healthcare resource utilization (HRU) and costs among peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL) patients in the USA. Methods: A retrospective cohort study, using the IQVIA PharMetrics® Plus claims database from 1 April 2011 to 30 November 2021, identified PTCL patients receiving systemic treatments. Three mutually exclusive subcohorts were created based on line of therapy (LOT): 1LOT, 2LOT and ≥3LOT. Common treatment regimens, median time on treatment, all-cause and PTCL-related HRU and costs were estimated. Results: Among 189 PTCL patients identified, 61.9% had 1LOT, 21.7% had 2LOT and 16.4% had ≥3LOT. The most common treatment regimens in the 1LOT were CHOP/CHOP-like, CHOEP/CHOEP-like and brentuximab vedotin; monotherapies were most common in the 2LOT and ≥3LOT. All-cause and PTCL-related hospitalizations and prescriptions PPPM increased with increasing LOT. Nearly 70% of total treatment costs were PTCL related. Conclusion: Higher utilization of combination therapies in the 1LOT and monotherapies in subsequent LOTs were observed, alongside high PTCL-related costs.


Peripheral T-cell lymphomas (PTCL) are a rare and fast-growing form of blood cancer. About 8000­12,000 people in the USA are diagnosed with PTCL every year. As it is a rare disease and has many types, and there is a limited understanding of the patients who have PTCL and the treatments they receive in the real world. The purpose of this study was to evaluate how these patients are treated, what are they treated with and what are the costs of these treatments in the USA. The data collected on these patients was divided into three groups based upon the number of lines of treatment/therapy (LOT) they received: 1LOT, 2LOT and ≥3LOT. This study researched different treatments and their duration in each line of therapy. Among 189 PTCL patients included in the study, the average age of patients was 55 years and 62% were male. Among these patients, 62% had 1LOT, 22% had 2LOT and 16% had ≥3LOT. The most common treatments in the 1LOT were traditional chemotherapy regimens followed by targeted therapies: CHOP (cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine and prednisone) or CHOP-like, CHOEP (cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, etoposide and prednisone) or CHOEP-like, and brentuximab vedotin. Treatment regimens with only one drug were most common in the 2LOT and ≥3LOT. The total cost of PTCL treatment in the USA is very high; 70% of this cost is related to their treatment with various drugs. More research is needed to better understand the treatment and cost of this rare cancer.

Noroviruses (NoVs) are a global concern, causing widespread outbreaks and sporadic acute gastroenteritis (AGE) cases across all age groups. Recent research has shed light on the emergence of novel recombinant strains of NoV in various countries. To delve deeper into this phenomenon, we extensively analyzed 1,175 stool samples collected from Japanese infants and children with AGE from six different prefectures in Japan over three years, from July 2018 to June 2021. Our investigation aimed to determine the prevalence and genetic characteristics of NoV associated with sporadic AGE while exploring the possibility of detecting NoV recombination events. Among the analyzed samples, we identified 355 cases positive for NoV, 11 cases attributed to GI genotypes, and 344 associated with GII genotypes. Notably, we discovered four distinct GI genotypes (GI.2, GI.3, GI.4, and GI.6) and seven diverse GII genotypes (GII.2, GII.3, GII.4, GII.6, GII.7, GII.14, and GII.17). The predominant genotypes were GII.4 (56.4%; 194 out of 344), followed by GII.2 and GII.3. Through dual genotyping based on sequencing of the ORF1/ORF2 junction region, we identified a total of 14 different RdRp/capsid genotypes. Of particular interest were the prevalent recombinant genotypes GII.4[P31] and GII.2[P16]. Notably, our study revealed a decrease in the number of children infected with NoV during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. These findings underscore the importance of continuous NoV surveillance efforts.

An increasing trend of sapovirus (SaV) infections in Japanese children during 2009-2019, particularly after the introduction of the voluntary rotavirus (RV)-vaccination program has been observed. Herein, we investigated the epidemiological situation of SaV infections from 2019 to 2022 when people adopted a precautionary lifestyle due to the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, and RV vaccines had been implemented as routine vaccines. Stool samples were collected from children who attended outpatient clinics with acute gastroenteritis and analyzed by reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction to determine viral etiology. Among 961 stool samples, 80 (8.3%) were positive for SaV: 2019-2020 (6.5%), 2020-2021 (0%), and 2021-2022 (12.8%). The trend of SaV infection in Japanese children yet remained upward with statistical significance (p = 0.000). The major genotype was GI.1 (75%) which caused a large outbreak in Kyoto between December 2021 and February 2022. Phylogenetic, gene sequence and deduced amino acid sequence analyses suggested that these GI.1 strains detected in the outbreak and other places during 2021-2022 or 2019-2020 remained genetically identical and widely spread. This study reveals that SaV infection is increasing among Japanese children which is a grave concern and demands immediate attention to be paid before SaV attains a serious public health problem.

BACKGROUND: Human astrovirus (HAstV) infection is one of the leading causes of acute gastroenteritis in young children. The present study reports the outbreak of HAstV in children with acute gastroenteritis in Kyoto, Japan, during the COVID-19 pandemic, 2021. METHODS: A total of 61 stool samples were collected from children with acute gastroenteritis who visited a pediatric outpatient clinic in Maizuru city, Kyoto, Japan from July to October, 2021. HAstV was screened by RT-PCR, and the genotypes were identified by nucleotide sequence analysis. RESULTS: Of 61 cases of acute gastroenteritis, 20 were mono-infected with HAstV alone. In addition, mixed infection of HAstV and NoV, and HAstV and RVA were also detected in 15 and 1 cases, respectively. Of 36 HAstV strains detected in this outbreak, 29 and 7 were HAstV1 and MLB2 genotypes, respectively. All HAstV1 strains were closely related to the HAstV1 reported from Thailand and Japan in 2021 and all of them belonged to subgenotype HAstV1a. Among MLB2, they were most closely related to the MLB2 strains reported from China in 2016 and 2018. CONCLUSIONS: After the kindergartens and schools were re-opened at the middle of 2021 in Japan, an outbreak of HAstV was reported. Control measures against the COVID-19 pandemics might affect the spread of diarrheal virus infection. Here we report the outbreak of HAstV1 and MLB2 in Kyoto, Japan, during COVID-19 pandemic in 2021.

Aim: This study aimed to explore the impact of caring for an individual with neurogenic orthostatic hypotension (nOH). Methods: Informal caregivers of individuals with nOH and either Parkinson's disease, multiple system atrophy, pure autonomic failure or dementia with Lewy bodies completed semi-structured interviews. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis; the identified concepts were used to develop a conceptual model. Results: Twenty informal caregivers were interviewed. Analysis identified several areas of caregiver impact due to nOH including impact on their time, particularly a need to supervise the patient to prevent falls as well as a lack of freedom and negative physical, work and social impacts. Many reported negative emotional impacts, including worry, stress or fear about the patient falling, depression and frustration. The conceptual model shows the relationships between concepts. Conclusion: The results highlight the wide-ranging impact of nOH, and the specific impact of the fear of falls on informal caregivers' lives.


Neurogenic orthostatic hypotension (nOH) is a type of hypotension (low blood pressure) which causes your blood pressure to fall when you stand up, meaning you can feel dizzy or lightheaded. This study looked at the experience of family members who provide day-to-day caregiving support to someone who has nOH as well as another condition which affects the brain and nerves (neurological condition). These neurological conditions included Parkinson's disease, multiple system atrophy, pure autonomic failure or dementia with Lewy bodies. Interviews were conducted with informal caregivers (family members) of people with nOH. Caregivers discussed a range of ways in which caring for their family member impacts them, including needing to supervise their family member to make sure they do not fall, as well as having a lack of freedom and feeling worried, stressed, depressed and frustrated.

The role of metabolites, nutrients, and toxins (MNTs) in sera at the end of pregnancy and of their association with offspring respiratory and allergic disorders is underexplored. Untargeted approaches detecting a variety of compounds, known and unknown, are limited. In this cohort study, we first aimed at discovering associations of MNTs in grandmaternal (F0) serum with asthma, immunoglobulin E, skin prick tests, exhaled nitric oxide, and lung function parameters in their parental (F1) offspring. Second, for replication, we tested the identified associations of MNTs with disorders in their grandchildren (F2-offspring) based on F2 cord serum. The statistical analyses were sex-stratified. Using liquid chromatography/high-resolution mass spectrometry in F0, we detected signals for 2286 negative-ion lipids, 59 positive-ion lipids, and 6331 polar MNTs. Nine MNTs (one unknown MNT) discovered in F0-F1 and replicated in F2 showed higher risks of respiratory/allergic outcomes. Twelve MNTs (four unknowns) constituted a potential protection in F1 and F2. We recognized MNTs not yet considered candidates for respiratory/allergic outcomes: a phthalate plasticizer, an antihistamine, a bile acid metabolite, tryptophan metabolites, a hemiterpenoid glycoside, triacylglycerols, hypoxanthine, and polyphenol syringic acid. The findings suggest that MNTs are aspirants for clinical trials to prevent adverse respiratory/allergic outcomes.

ABSTRACT

Transforming growth factor-beta 1 (TGF-ß1) is a pleiotropic growth factor playing various roles in the human body including cell growth and development. More functions of TGF-ß1 have been discovered, especially its roles in viral infection. TGF-ß1 is abundant at the maternal-fetal interface during pregnancy and plays an important function in immune tolerance, an essential key factor for pregnancy success. It plays some critical roles in viral infection in pregnancy, such as its effects on the infection and replication of human cytomegalovirus in syncytiotrophoblasts. Interestingly, its role in the enhancement of Zika virus (ZIKV) infection and replication in first-trimester trophoblasts has recently been reported. The above up-to-date findings have opened one of the promising approaches to studying the mechanisms of viral infection during pregnancy with links to corresponding congenital syndromes. In this article, we review our current and recent advances in understanding the roles of TGF-ß1 in viral infection. Our discussion focuses on viral infection during pregnancy, especially in the first trimester. We highlight the mutual roles of viral infection and TGF-ß1 in specific contexts and possible functions of the Smad pathway in viral infection, with a special note on ZIKV infection. In addition, we discuss promising approaches to performing further studies on this topic.

Viruses remain the leading cause of acute gastroenteritis (AGE) worldwide. Recently, we reported the abundance of AGE viruses in raw sewage water (SW) during the COVID-19 pandemic, when viral AGE patients decreased dramatically in clinics. Since clinical samples were not reflecting the actual state, it remained important to determine the circulating strains in the SW for preparedness against impending outbreaks. Raw SW was collected from a sewage treatment plant in Japan from August 2018 to March 2022, concentrated by polyethylene-glycol-precipitation method, and investigated for major gastroenteritis viruses by RT-PCR. Genotypes and evolutionary relationships were evaluated through sequence-based analyses. Major AGE viruses like rotavirus A (RVA), norovirus (NoV) GI and GII, and astrovirus (AstV) increased sharply (10-20%) in SW during the COVID-19 pandemic, though some AGE viruses like sapovirus (SV), adenovirus (AdV), and enterovirus (EV) decreased slightly (3-10%). The prevalence remained top in the winter. Importantly, several strains, including G1 and G3 of RVA, GI.1 and GII.2 of NoV, GI.1 of SV, MLB1 of AstV, and F41 of AdV, either emerged or increased amid the pandemic, suggesting that the normal phenomenon of genotype changing remained active over this time. This study crucially presents the molecular characteristics of circulating AGE viruses, explaining the importance of SW investigation during the pandemic when a clinical investigation may not produce the complete scenario.

ABSTRACT

Objective: Vaccine hesitancy has been ranked by the World Health Organization among the top 10 threats to global health. With a surge in misinformation and conspiracy theories against vaccination observed during the COVID-19 pandemic, attitudes toward vaccination may be worsening. This study investigates trends in anti-vaccination attitudes during the COVID-19 pandemic and within the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia. Methods: Vaccine-related English tweets published between 1 January 2020 and 27 June 2021 were used. A deep learning model using a dynamic word embedding method, Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERTs), was developed to identify anti-vaccination tweets. The classifier achieved a micro F1 score of 0.92. Time series plots and country maps were used to examine vaccination attitudes globally and within countries. Results: Among 9,352,509 tweets, 232,975 (2.49%) were identified as anti-vaccination tweets. The overall number of vaccine-related tweets increased sharply after the implementation of the first vaccination round since November 2020 (daily average of 6967 before vs. 31,757 tweets after 9/11/2020). The number of anti-vaccination tweets increased after conspiracy theories spread on social media. Percentages of anti-vaccination tweets were 3.45%, 2.74%, 2.46%, and 1.86% for the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada, respectively. Conclusions: Strategies and information campaigns targeting vaccination misinformation may need to be specifically designed for regions with the highest anti-vaccination Twitter activity and when new vaccination campaigns are initiated.

Aim: This study explores the burden of caring for an individual with neurogenic orthostatic hypotension (nOH) and an underlying neurodegenerative disease (Parkinson's disease, multiple system atrophy, pure autonomic failure or dementia with Lewy bodies). Materials & methods: A survey including several validated instruments was conducted with informal caregivers of individuals with Parkinson's disease, multiple system atrophy, pure autonomic failure or dementia with Lewy bodies. Results: Caregivers of patients with nOH (n = 60) reported greater burden across all outcomes compared with those without nOH (n = 60). Receiving pharmacological treatment for nOH was the variable most consistently associated with significantly better caregiver health-related quality-of-life (p < 0.05). Conclusion: This study demonstrates the burden of nOH on informal caregivers and highlights the potential benefit of pharmacological treatment not only for patients but also indirectly, their caregivers.


Neurogenic orthostatic hypotension (nOH) causes blood pressure to fall when you stand up, meaning you can feel dizzy or lightheaded. This study looked at how providing day to day caregiving support to someone who has nOH as well as another neurological condition impacts the caregiver's health and wellbeing. These neurological conditions included Parkinson's disease, multiple system atrophy, pure autonomic failure or dementia with Lewy bodies. A survey was conducted with informal caregivers (e.g., family members) of people with a neurological condition, with or without nOH. Caregivers completed questions about their own health-related quality-of-life, anxiety, depression and experience of caregiving. Caregivers of patients with nOH reported higher amounts of burden compared with those without nOH. Patients taking a treatment for nOH was most often associated with better caregiver health-related quality-of-life. This study shows the burden nOH can have on informal caregivers and highlights that treatment potentially benefits both patients and, indirectly, caregivers.

ABSTRACT

The Zika virus (ZIKV) is well known for causing congenital Zika syndrome if the infection occurs during pregnancy; however, the mechanism by which the virus infects and crosses the placenta barrier has not been completely understood. In pregnancy, TGF-ß1 is abundant at the maternal-fetal interface. TGF-ß1 has been reported to enhance rubella virus binding and infection in human lung epithelial cells. Therefore, in this study, we investigate the role of TGF-ß1 in ZIKV infection in the immortalized human first-trimester trophoblasts, i.e., Swan.71. The cells were treated with TGF-ß1 (10 ng/mL) for two days before being inoculated with the virus (American strain PRVABC59) at a multiplicity of infection of five. The results showed an enhancement of ZIKV infection, as demonstrated by the immunofluorescent assay and flow cytometry analysis. Such enhanced infection effects were abolished using SB431542 or SB525334, inhibitors of the TGF-ß/Smad signaling pathway. An approximately 2-fold increase in the virus binding to the studied trophoblasts was found. In the presence of the Smad inhibitors, virus replication was significantly suppressed. An enhancement in Tyro3 and AXL (receptors for ZIKV) expression induced by TGF-ß1 was also noted. The results suggest that TGF-ß1 promotes the virus infection via the Smad pathway. Further studies should be carried out to clarify the underlying mechanisms of these findings.

ABSTRACT

Unusual DS-1-like intergenogroup reassortant rotaviruses with a bovine-like G8 genotype (DS-1-like G8P [8] rotaviruses) have emerged and rapidly spread in several countries. In this study, the nucleotide sequences of seven human rotavirus G8P [8] strains in 2017 and 2019 in Japan were determined using viral metagenomics. Its genomic constellation (VP7-VP4-VP6-VP1-VP2-VP3-NSP1-NSP2-NSP3-NSP4-NSP5 genes) was defined as G8-P [8]-I2-R2-C2-M2-A2-N2-T2-E2-H2. Our genetic analysis revealed that the Japanese G8P [8] rotavirus strains in 2017 and 2019 were classified into the same lineages G8-5 and P [8]-3, but they were phylogenetically located on separate branches and belonged to distinct clusters. Our study is the first attempt to investigate the evolution of emerging rotavirus G8P [8] in Japan.
