ABSTRACT

Se presenta el caso de una paciente de 40 años de edad que desde hace un año aproximadamente comenzó a presentar alteraciones de la lengua y a la cual se le diagnosticó una esclerosis sistémica progresiva de dicho órgano. Se señalan las manifestaciones y los medios diagnósticos de este caso, así como la terapéutica empleada. Se destaca la rareza de esta enfermedad, la cual es posible en enfermedades sistémicas (AU)


A case of a 40 year old female patient who began to present alterations in the tongue and who was diagnosed of Progressive Sclerosis of that organ is presented. The manifestation and diagnostic tools used in this case, as well as the treatment use, is given. The rareness of this disease, which is possible in systemic diseases, stands out (AU)

ABSTRACT

Se realizó una investigación prospectiva observacional descriptiva, para conocer la incidencia de cuerpos extraños en el esófago de adultos ingresadas en el Hospital Provincial Docente Clínico-Quirúrgico 'Manuel Ascunce Domenech', de Camagüey, Cuba, en el período comprendido entre el 1 de septiembre de 1997 y 31 de agosto de 1998. La mayor frecuencia de pacientes con este diagnóstico pertenecía a los grupos de edades de 31 a 50 años, y del sexo masculino. La disfagia y la retención de saliva de los senos periformes fueron el síntoma y el signo predominante; el 82,50 por ciento de los pacientes presentaba un mal estado en la cavidad oral; en las primeras 24 horas se atrajo el cuerpo extraño al 83,33 por ciento de los pacientes; el diagnóstico radiológico fue positivo en el 75 por ciento de los enfermos y el tercio superior fue la localización topográfica del cuerpo extraño másfrecuente en los estudios radiológicos y endoscópicos. Las espinas de pescado fueron el tipo de cuerpo extraño que predominó; el 25 por ciento de los pacientes presentaron complicaciones, y el esofagoscopio rígido se utilizó para extraer los cuerpos extraños en el 96,67 por ciento de los casos (AU)


A prospective descriptive observational study was made to determine the incidence of esophageal foreign bodies in adults who had been admitted to the Manual Ascunce Domenech teaching hospital of Camaguey, Cuba in the period from 1 September 1997 to 31 August 1998. The highest frequency of patients with this diagnosis was in 31 to 50 year-old men. Dysphagia and salivary retention in the pyriform sinuses were the prevalent symptoms. The state of the oral cavity was poor in 82.50% of patients. The foreign body was removed in the first 24 hours in 83.33% of patients. The radiological diagnosis was positive in 75% of patients. The upper third was the most common location in radiological and endoscopic studies. Fish bones were the prevalent foreign body. A quarter of the patients had complications and stable esophagoscopy was used to extract the foreign body in 96.67% of cases (AU)

ABSTRACT

A 50-year-old man was diagnosed as parotid sarcoidosis. The main features of the disease and the importance of biopsy and histological studies for its diagnosis and treatment are emphasized. The disease, although rare, should be kept in mind if the prognosis of these patients is to be improved.

Here we present a case of a female patient 70 years old stricken with diabetes mellitud 40 years of evolution with manifestations of malignant external otitis accompanied by disfunction of the temporomandibular articulation. Here is presented a case of a patient with histoplasmosis in the oral cavity a rare disease in our country and whose diagnosis is based upon epidemiological history, serological tests, cultures and hystological study of lymphatic nodes and the hard plate of the palate. Here we will expound upon clinical, diagnostical and therapeutic aspects as applied to our patient.

ABSTRACT

Here we present the case of a patient with lesion on the tongue, during more than 6 months, which in its self required different therapeutic measures and because of a benign evolution is remitted to this center for study, which concluded with an histological diagnosis of sarcoidosis, a granulomatous disease systemic in character which in this patient only affect the tongue which reminds us daily the necessity to remember this entity by internist, gastroenterologists and dentists.

We have to remark the tumor significance for otorhinolaryngology, maxillo-facial and internal medicine specialists. In spite of being relatively uncommon, nowadays is more frequently reported. In this paper we also expose some of its features.
