ABSTRACT

This article describes the methods and materials used to easily and quickly capture excursive mandibular border movements. The novel method can be used for edentulous and dentulous patients and provides bilateral, three-dimensional record stability. It allows an uncomplicated method of setting a semiadjustable articulator.

ABSTRACT

This technique affords a simplified alternative to more complicated and expensive treatment of periodontically compromised teeth. It provides the patient with an extended-term prosthesis attached to a single or multiple retained canine. A disadvantage of this technique is that poor hygiene may result in caries or further periodontal breakdown. The internal liner of the cemented tube/sleeve will accumulate food particles if the patient does not keep the prosthesis in place during all times of food ingestion and does not periodically irrigate the internal tube/sleeve.

ABSTRACT

A parallel radiographic technique that allows calculation of mandibular height at the midline with a mean error of 0.3 mm is presented. This accuracy gives clinical confidence in the placement of endosseous implants.

ABSTRACT

This article describes a basic laboratory exercise in the teaching of dental electrosurgery for certain restorative dental procedures. This step is a pedagogic approach for orientation to this modality prior to laboratory tissue specimen exercises and, finally, clinical application. It is hoped that through the use of this basic exercise students will become more familiar with electrosurgical instrumentation and that repeated exercises will stimulate clinical use with less apprehension. The advantages of using this exercise include the following (1) the instruments, methods, and materials for the exercise are economical, easily procured, and comprehensive; (2) the laboratory time involved is minimal; (3) the exercise can be taught in conjunction with restorative dentistry; and (4) this approach can stimulate student interest in tissue management and restorative dentistry.
