ABSTRACT

Data are presented on chemical study of flavonoid glycosides in some botanical subjects using matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization, compared to HPLC. The method of matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization (MALDI) allows characterizing the composition of anthocyanin and flavonoid mixture without preliminary separation of components with minimal sample preparation, which greatly simplifies identification of bioactive phytogenic compounds.

ABSTRACT

Aorto-coronary bypass were performed in 10 patients aged from 34 to 55 years 7 to 30 days after the occurrence of angina pectoris for the first time. Coronarography demonstrated stenosis (of more than 75%) of the coronary arteries in all patients. Angina pectoris disappeared and did not recur in postoperative periods of up to 12 months in all cases. Shuntography was carried out 6 weeks after the operation in one patient: the shunt was potent.

ABSTRACT

The authors evaluate the efficacy of aortocoronary shunting in the treatment of 10 patients with progressive angina pectoris (unstable stenocardia) in follow-up periods of up to 12 months after the operation. In none of the patients did angina pectoris or myocardial infarction develop in the indicated postoperative periods.

ABSTRACT

Marked clinical or electrocardiographic changes, suggestive of heart disease, were only detected in 14 (7%) of 190 patients with sarcoidosis. Diffuse myocardial accumulation of 99mTc pyrophosphate (2+ or 3+) was seen in 12 (43%) of 28 patients with active sarcoidosis. Repeated scintigraphy showed normal values in 3 patients after a course of corticosteroid therapy. Echocardiographic signs of heart disease were found in 33 (37%) of 89 patients, including left-ventricular contractility disorders in 21, thinning (5) or thickening (7) of left-ventricular wall and ventricular septum, mitral prolapse in 3 and limited pericardial exudate in 5. Signs of pulmonary heart were detected in 17 patients. Clinical and electrocardiographic symptoms of cardiac sarcoidosis were significantly more frequent in patients with myocardial Tc-pyrophosphate accumulation and echocardiographic changes. It is suggested that myocardial Tc-pyrophosphate scintigraphy and echocardiography may be used for the diagnosis of cardiac sarcoidosis, including its latent forms.

ABSTRACT

Reaction to graded bicycle exercise in patients with newly developed angina pectoris, patients with chronic IHD and subjects without IHD with normal coronary arteries was studied. Platelet activation by physical exercise was significantly more often (35.7%) in patients with newly developed angina pectoris than in patients with chronic IHD (12.8%) and patients without IHD (13%). It is shown that myocardial ischemia during physical exercise does not influence the frequency of the platelet activation signs determination. Development of platelet activation in physical exercise was promoted by minor disease duration, lower basic platelet functional activity and more evident increase in haematocrite in physical exercise.

ABSTRACT

A comparative study of data provided by coronaro-angiography and myocardial perfusion scintigraphy (resting and exercise tests), and clinical/electrocardiographic results of the exercise test in 102 chronic coronary patients demonstrated that non-invasive myocardial perfusion 201Tl scintigraphy combined with threshold bicycle-ergometric exercise adds considerably to the clinico-electrocardiographic assessment of the exercise test and thus helps to detect myocardial blood supply (perfusion) disorders in some of coronary patients with doubtful or negative test results. Reduced functional reserves of myocardial blood supply, as reflected in deficient perfusion at the peak of threshold exercise, are seen in all coronary patients with angiographically intact coronary arteries and in most patients with both the so-called "functionally-insignificant" and marked coronary arterial stenosis (94.7 and 88.3%, respectively).

ABSTRACT

Coronary angiographic and scintigraphic (using 201Tl) studies in 139 patients with verified diagnosis of chronic coronary heart disease demonstrated high sensitivity (85.6%) of myocardial perfusion scintigraphy with respect to detecting disorders of myocardial blood supply due to the stenosis of major coronary arteries and microcirculation disorders. False negative scintigraphic results in the screening for perfusion defects are commonly due to the shortcomings of semiquantitative assessment of the scintigrams.

ABSTRACT

The procedure has been described for determination of unsaturated hydrocarbons in sun flower oil by ligand exchange chromatography. 15 compounds including sesequiterpenes and diterpenes (the latter ones predominated) have been identified in the olefin fraction. Compounds similar to gurjunen and cadinen isomers dominated in the series of sesquiterpene hydrocarbons whereas compounds of the labdan and cauren types were predominant among diterpene hydrocarbons.

ABSTRACT

Deposition of hydrocarbons from vegetable oils in the rat fat tissue was studied in the course of using oils as the only source of fat in the diet. the oils were found to contain largely n-alkanes C25-31, cycloalkanes, mono-, ditrinculear arenes. Prior to the experiment the rat fat tissue had a 10-12 fold less amount of total, 5-10 fold less amount of monuclear aromatic hydrocarbons, 50-100 fold less amount of di- and trinuclear arenes, uniform distribution of n-alkanes from C13 to C32, no cycloalkanes. The growth of the animals and the increased time of feeding were proportional to the increased content of both total and aromatic hydrocarbons in the rat subcutaneous fat. After the experiment the distribution pattern of n-alkanes, cycloalkanes, aromatic hydrocarbons in the subcutaneous fat was similar to that of the oils used. The evidence obtained suggests that even small amounts of hydrocarbons supplied with food oils undergo the stage of deposition in fat tissue.

ABSTRACT

To determine the content and composition of aliphatic carbohydrates in vegetable oils and oil cakes a method including alkaline hydrolysis, partition and thin-lower chromatography, gas-liquid chromatography and chromate-mass-spectrometry was devised. The content of n-isoalkans, isoprenoids, monocycloparaffins, bi-and tricyclic naphthenes, steranes and terpenes, olifines, squalene and other polyenes in sunflower, cotton, soya oils and oilcakes was measured.
